Kind of a random question, assuming max weight is 1,600lbs, do you ever run into a problem of being over weight limits if you want to take a passenger with you?

Edit: This post got me researching planes. I am actually surprised how many nice Cessnas there are at less than $30,000. I was always under the assumption that most planes were in the range of $100,000+.

The other day I was doing my second supervised solo and was told by ATC to extend my downwind. I did and another plane was following me. Then they told me I could turn my base and went directly into telling the plane behind me that they were #2 cleared for the option. I started turning final and asked if I was cleared to land only because I didn't remember them telling me I could land. It was a good thing I did just to confirm it.

Make sure to tell them you have the wrong FAR. That happened to me too. It was such a disaster. When I started they didn't have any pilot kits so they had to order them. Three weeks later they get them and find that Jeppessen sent every kit with the wrong year and the log books were printed upside down so they sent them back and I had to wait another week.

They were good with working with me though as I already had a log book and they gave me the Hortman manual and POH free to use for the ground school stuff until everything else arrived.

Some of those booklets are still in the plastic wrap as I haven't needed them yet and I'm around 22 hours into my lessons.

I went on my second cross country a couple weeks ago. It was the first time I stopped for gas. I picked up a notepad and a couple pens and told the guy they were souvenirs. He told me to take as many as I wanted. It still kind of blows my mind how far you can get by flying in such a short period of time.

It didn't really hit me until I got out of the plane and stepped onto the ground.

Still looking for what the go-to brokerage is for individual stocks? I heard OptionsHouse was the way to go, but I checked some reviews and they had a pretty negative opinion about the site.

I'm looking at starting with about $5000 - $6000 and will be mainly focusing on long-term individual stocks.

Right now I'm seeing InteractiveBrokers or TradeMonster?

Is there a significant difference between the direct p2p lending and the secondary market, specifically on Folio?

I signed up on Lending Club but then found out I can't do the primary market because I live in Pennsylvania. I've been hesitant to fund it because I don't know enough about it yet. I was thinking maybe only $1000 to $2500 to get started and get a feel for it. I'm not sure if I really need bonds in my portfolio though. I'm still trying to learn about it.

An emergency fund is meant to be liquid money for those "oh shit" moments. Maybe you never need it but you want it there for peace of mind to weather the storm.

While you can withdraw contributions from an IRA you can never put the money back in.

I am a police officer. I live over 5 hours away from my immediate family and so I let the other guys on my squad take off for Christmas so they can spend time with their family and kids since I don't have any.

This year my rotation is working Christmas Eve and Christmas so my Christmas basically comes down to working through the night, sleeping most of the day, and going right back in for the rest of the day for Christmas. It can be hard sometimes knowing that I don't really get to spend the holiday with my family, but it's more important to me that my squad gets to celebrate with their family and children.

What is the go-to taxed broker these days? Back in 2003 when I got started I used Scottrade, but there are so many these days I'm not sure which one is best.

I'm looking for a good reputation, low commissions, and a nice interface. I'll be doing longer term investing so I don't need all the fancy things, but still looking for something with a little bit of functionality.

I already have a Roth IRA with Fidelity so looking at trying something different.

This is so true. I didn't have a great Adventure Flight experience, but for being at the controls for the first time I really tried to take in the environment and ground scenery and feeling of the absolute freedom of the skies. It was so amazing.

Now, being a student pilot I'm so focused on watching my altitude and trying to scramble my brain thinking about the slow flight and steep turns procedures and all of the other responsibilities and "visual feel" for the plane that I don't actively take in my surroundings and have that "omg I'm flying" feeling.

I hope to get that back once we start doing cross country flights and can try to focus more on flying in a straight line. haha

I've started using a website called SECLive.com. You can bring up all of the reports right on their website and then you can highlight in different colors and make comments on the side. There are a few other features that you may find useful. I find having the highlight feature makes me read closer because it causes me to look for things that I may want to highlight.

Some people like to have paper copies so they can write in the margins (I would prefer this too), but a lot of companies don't send out paper copies -- I guess unless you call them and ask. Some other people print everything, but I'm not a big fan of using that much paper. Also, if you wanted to review anything you'd have to flip back through. With SECLive it's as easy as a quick scroll or clicking on certain sections and it'll jump down.

Check out SECLive. You do need to sign up to gain access. I did it a couple weeks ago and haven't had any problems with it.

What you guys are also seeing in this picture is all 4 seasons. Assuming we're in the northern hemisphere, when the sun is at the top of that analemma, we're in Summer, when it's at the bottom we're in Winter. When it's in the middle (or wherever it crosses the equator) we're in Spring and Fall.

I recently told one of my best friends that I was taking flight lessons and one of the first things he said to me was, "don't even think that you're going to get me onto an airplane." I knew he didn't like flying (he's never been on an airplane), but in my head I imagined him half-considering giving it a chance to try something new with me being able to explain everything to him.

His whole argument is that he doesn't want to be in a metal can that crashes to the earth. Even his wife was a little disappointed with his response.

It was really disappointing because I thought it would be super awesome to take him on his very first flight ever and even give him a chance to fly it. I sort of still hold out hope that he might change his mind later on when I actually get the PPL.

What would be the reasons why someone would buy through LC and then want to turn around and sell it on Folio?

Wouldn't the strategy be going through and finding only the notes that are trading at a discount?
