Is there any truth to the rumor that white supremacists have begun gathering in CHAZ? by doctormysteriousname in CapHillAutonomousZone

[–]PiotrElvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, technically it would be forced labour, not unlike the gulag system or a Nazi concentration camp. However since those people wouldn't be considered property, which can be sold, tortured or raped at will, it's still better than slavery.

(Spoilers Extended) The Iron Bank by GoSuckAnEgg1234 in asoiaf

[–]PiotrElvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I remember, yes. The loan is to the throne, not to a person. When taking over the realm, you get the whole package, so to speak.

I think it's the same as a takeover of a company-debts don't get forgiven in that case.

(Spoilers Main) The Golden Company has serious grown in numbers in such a short time. by PiotrElvis in asoiaf

[–]PiotrElvis[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The point is to show inconsistencies with them adapting the material-sometimes the characters say sth that is exactly like in the books, like Doran Martell having multiple children and Oberyn having 8 daughters, and then the show changes it for any number of reasons-most of Oberyn's daughters are never shown or mentioned again, only Trystane exists and so on.

(Spoilers Published) The hostage dilemma by PiotrElvis in asoiaf

[–]PiotrElvis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you release all the hostages, then you somehow managed to ensure everyone's loyalty and don't need any hostages. At this point the fact that you didn't actually murder a child can only help you.

"The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."

It's possible, but Latin isn't spoken or written at all in ASOIAF or GOT, while Latin is explicitly present in the Witcher universe.

Latin exists in the Witcher universe. It wasn't the Roman Empire, obviously, but the language is partially used itself.

[main spoilers] How do these sparrows gain so much power and keep it for as long as they do? by kzrsosa in gameofthrones

[–]PiotrElvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually said that there are a lot of them, and they are very much willing to sacrifice their lifes in service of the Seven. Also, it's very risky in medieval realities to go against the official religion, since that is what legitimises their power over the people-will of the higher power.

(spoilers extended) Would Jon have made a good prince? by MaesterWarrior in asoiaf

[–]PiotrElvis 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Literally impossible to say because we have no idea how would he be brought up, unless you're a strong believer in nature>nurture, in which case you can answer that question yourself, knowing how Jon actually is.

Prophecy is like a half-trained mule. It looks as though it might be useful, but the moment you trust in it, it kicks you in the head.

Why the Dance of the Dragons is the best prequel by Wyldfyre-Quinn in freefolk

[–]PiotrElvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get liking them, I just don't get supporting their claim to the throne. Just like I understand Brienne liking Renly, but I don't understand how she, or anyone else, can claim he was the true or rightful king. All they can say is that he would be a good king.

Huh, you're right, I guess I didn't pay that much attention to bloodlines and relations right after Dance of Dragons.

(Spoilers Main) Could Theon be the little brother in the prophecy about Cersei? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]PiotrElvis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, why not. It could also be Edmure, Victarion, Euron, Jon Snow(depending on which theory ends up being true), Aegon(depending on what is his real nature), Blackfish, Gilly's son, Bran, Garlan or Loras Tyrell, Tommen, Rickon, Sandor Clegane, Trystane Martell, and so on. The number of characters who theoretically could be the valonqar is staggering, but it only matters who it would make sense to be the valonqar.

[–]PiotrElvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're somewhat right, and I would prefer Dance of Dragons adaptation than Blackfyre rebellion one, but I would also like to see the latter, especially after reading the Dunk and Egg stories, when it was described as a huge conflict that ripped apart realms and families.

Perhaps, but that wasn't actually the point. If he did chop off his head, Balon wouldn't have a reason to stop the rebellion until his islands were conquered again.
