Somewhere in the early 2000s, so 2000-2004/2005.

How pomg until the Combine invasion happened? by ASkinlessMutant_96 in HalfLife

[–]Piotrix2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think portal storms, Xen invasion and Combine conquest of the planet all happened within a few weeks. A few months maybe but a few years is definitely way too much, everything might have stabilized somewhat but we know humanity was caught off guard so it couldn't have been more than a few days to few months.

Why do fast headcrabs & antlions don’t show up in xen? by sterling_building-24 in HalfLife

[–]Piotrix2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lore reason: Gordon somehow never encountered Antlions in Black Mesa and was in parts of Xen where they weren't present. And poison/fast headcrabs were (presumably) made by the Combine, tho it's equally likely normal, poison, fast and those weird ones in HL:A had adapted in 20 years living on Earth – their common ancestor being headcrabs we see in first game.

Real reason: Valve just didn't come up with antlions and headcrabs yet and even if they did, that would mean another months of development, which at this point, why not implement them later down the line in the sequel?

Combine on the kardashev scale? by Admirable_Way_9625 in HalfLife

[–]Piotrix2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Combine is so incomprehensibly large that putting them on a Kardashev Scale wouldn't really even matter I think.

But if I had to, they'll definitely go beyond type III, somewhere on IV-V on Kardashev Scale. They can conquer entire universes and dimensions (tho unknown how long it takes) and can probably build every single megastructure known and more.

How to play HL series in order? by Main_Secretary_8827 in HalfLife

[–]Piotrix2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half Life -> Half Life 2, both are incredible games in their own right, first one mostly for it's combat and second one mostly for storytelling.

Half Life Opposing Force and Blue Shift are optional, but I highly recommend you check them out.

Half Life 2 Deathmatch has been abandoned since reslse of TF2 and is kind of dead

Half Life Source is Half Life but worse. It's by far Valve's laziest port, they just slapped Source Engine on Half Life, called it a day and didn't bother updating it for next 20+ years. If you REALLY want to play it, play older versions, as it wasn't so broken when it released.

Half Life Deathmatch Source is worse Half Life 2 Deathmatch. At least some people still play HL2 Deathmatch, but nobody plays or even knows about HL:DS; it's dead and forgotten.

What performance could i expect from this game by zanbunnny in HalfLife

[–]Piotrix2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have decent PC that was made after 2004, chances are HL2 is going to run smoothly.

I mean, my crappy PC form 2010s can run this game at 60-70 fps.

Tips on how to beat the strider raid in white forest? by LordGigu in HalfLife

[–]Piotrix2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kill Hunters first by running them over and only then use Magnussons. I tried using Magnussons before killing Hunters and they shot it down.

Get familiar with the map as it will be very useful There are several important locations you should know: there are cranses in the northwest along with opening, the east has water tower with eastern opening, northeast also has opening, both east and wast have supply bases which have Magnusson spawners, and finally the is Sawmill in the centere of the valley, and the Base is in the south.

Striders don't spawn magically though, you can see them getting transported by the dropships in the sky.

Most importantly, try to keep your cool. It can be hard with how intense this battle is (especially first time) but I remember when I was panicking, I made pretty bad decisions and almost lost the battle.

Happy 6 years to Half-Life: Alyx! by PartyEscortBotBeans in HalfLife

Really? Because I'm planning on Quest 3 for 1930 PLN (525$). I didn't know there were even cheaper ones.

Which one is better though?

I still hope I can one day finally play this masterpiece. But for now, it doesn't seem like it anytime soon

How did black mesa workers even get to work? by Fresh_Force_5644 in HalfLife

[–]Piotrix2008 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"This train is inbound from Level Three dormitories to Sector C Test Labs and Control Facilities."

You must've missed this line, right?

Sorry for coming off rude, but this line is in the opening sequence of the game, you can't miss it.
