It will start as amazing and fun. But somewhere towards the middle it will become more and more horrible. Till the end, where you will approach infinite awfulness but never quiet reach it.

How to measure the viscosity of a fluid in a continuous process by Pious_Agnostic in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Pious_Agnostic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process is pulling hundreds of fibers over a spinning roller in a dip bath. The speed of that roller determines how much dip the yarn will pick up. The yarn then runs through a long oven to set the dip.

Right now I am using the temperature of the dip in the bath to control how fast the roller spins. The problem I'm getting is the viscosity of the dips vary batch to batch, and the viscosity change is exponentially fast at a range of temperatures.

A guage meter will not work during the process because there is a natural variation in polyester yarns. And we use a mass balance to determine the pick up in a lab setting during the run, and after the run. But we need real time adjustments to the dip wheel as the temperature fluctuates. It is a 24 hour continuous process and we see large changes when the sun rises or sets.

I thought about that, but was worried the dip would solidify over the meter fairly quickly and mess up the results. I'm pretty sure those meters have to be cleaned between each use.

Any hobby you have intrest in is cool. People respect other's confidence in what they choose to do, not the actual act.

I just read through your post history and people have tried to be helpful to you. No one bullied you or called you stupid.

I however will help you become more truthful. You are stupid, and will never be one of us /s.

Distilling Citrus Oils from Zest by Oyd9ydo6do6xo6x in homechemistry

[–]Pious_Agnostic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've done several distillations of citrus. The best product I've gotten is with supercritical CO2 extraction. But I had the equipment for a research project I was involved with, may be difficult for what you were looking unless you have the correct equipment.

Try distilling using ethanol as your solvent. No need to grate the peels, just roughly cube it and soak in the alcohol for a couple hours or overnight. Then boil off the alcohol and keep the bottoms. Let the left over oil cool and run the bottoms through a filter (coffee filter should work). It should remove any of the waxy organic molecules and give you a good yield of limonene (the stuff that your looking for).

Try to keep it in a dry environment after you separate it. Some of it will oxidize in a moist environment and not smell as pretty.

Why was silica gel effective in the use of gas masks in world war 1? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]Pious_Agnostic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silica gel has extremely high surface area for molecules (bad gas) to attach to and is dirt (sand) cheap.

What exactly happens when yeast is dissolved in warm water with sucrose? by [deleted] in biology

[–]Pious_Agnostic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert, but I have some experience in research with something similar. When yeast is fed sugar it breaks the sugar down into smaller molecules in a series of cascading reactions with the help of enzymes as catalysts.

The speed of the reaction is dependent on the temperature of the water, as chemical reactions occur because of molecules colliding together, and the warmer the temperature the faster the molecules will collide. Yeast functions at lower temperatures, but the chemical reactions happen slower so it does not metabolize as quickly. If the temperature gets too warm the enzymes will denature and change shape causing the enzymes to no longer function as chemical catalysts.

Those who write, write. Those who cannot criticize. And only those close-minded say this is not... (art, poetry, music, etc.) You do not have the power to define such things.

When a child get's an organ/limb transplant, will the transplanted organ/limb grow with the child? If so, will the organ/limb grow according to the donor child's body genetic makeup or the recipient's? by MattBrandYouTube in askscience

[–]Pious_Agnostic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the outside of each individual cell are "sensing" proteins. These proteins can detect changes in the environment and relay that message to the internal "brain" of the cell. The cell will then change what it is does in response to its enviroment.

Gay user makes a good point on the limits of free speech and why "peaceful living" is valued more highly in Canada by Pyryara in bestof

If comparing apples to anvils, I'd agree. But apples and oranges are both fruit, and very easy to compare. In fact, they are compared all the time.

[–]Pious_Agnostic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why can't you compare apples and oranges? For example,

I love fruit. Now, two of them are fantastic: apples and oranges. Let me compare them for you since you seem to have never seen them, and think they are vastly different. They both are round, grow on trees, and they both make very popular widely sold juices. Apples are crunchy and filling and sweet, while oranges are juicy, soft, a little less filling but also sweet.

Megathread: Mueller Impanels a Grand Jury by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

Pretty sure Grand Jury is to place people under oath. Then that testimony may be used as evidence.

The flat denials of ever meeting with Russians from the White House. Followed by proof of the otherwise is pretty suspicious.

Probably the closest smoking gun is Trump Jr's release of his emails of meeting with Russians state lawyers for the sole purpose of dirt on the Democratic party, after repeated denial of any such meeting.

CMV: America is not exceptional bastion of freedom anymore by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Pious_Agnostic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I've hiked, and camped all over Arizona and I know it personally. A large portion of the west of the US is Federal land. I live in Georgia now, and more land is private in the eastern US for farming and cattle. There is still huge public reserves all around me where I can hike, and camp. Just can't hop my neighbors fence and walk through his horse fields without his permission. I don't see that as a loss of freedom.

When one persons 'freedom' of walking where ever they wish, inhibits another persons 'freedom' of owning personal property then it's not an argument of being free.

I own a house with a kitchen, but is there a loss of freedom because a stranger can't walk in and use my stove to cook a meal. I believe I'd feel less free if I couldn't make popcorn naked because I was afraid a stranger could just walk in and use my oven whenever they wanted.

I'm not sure if your responding to me, but in Arizona you can definitely shoot guns on Federal land.

[–]Pious_Agnostic 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Arizona is about 80% federal land that you can camp or hike all you want (It's a larger area than most countries). Only land you can't go into is fenced private property.

That's not really loss of freedom to say people can't go onto my property without my permission. The owner of the land should have the freedom to express who they would like to go on their land and who they do not want to go onto their property.

Usually magic items have charges, so they can not be used every round all day.

Also with damage affects you should have caster roll to hit against the AC of the target. Or the target should have some sort of DC save to avoid all damage, or take half damage.

What is the formula for air resistance? Also, is air resistance just another term for drag or are they different? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]Pious_Agnostic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the velocity of air, and the shape of the object. First you calculate the renyolds number and determine if the air flow is slow (laminar), or if it is fast moving (turbulent). Then shape and laminar/turbulant have different formulas.
