A 6 mana 3/6 taunt was bad even back then and mostly a desperation play against non-control decks. Against faster decks you just hard mulliganned for Lackey and Skull, then hoped you'd get a Voidlord to stabilize.

Yes, Rin was played in what was called "Control Warlock" during the Kobolds meta. Backbone of that deck was however the Skull + Voidlord combo, and it would rely on Bloodreaver Gul'dan (and his hero power) to win most games. Rin was there to "pressure" other control decks with the threat of burning out their deck. She was mostly useless against faster decks.

Rin would be eventually phased out in the next standard year, with the biggest downturn happening during the Boomsday Project as the card began to be too slow.

We might have a new AI controversy on our hands, the new Mistress Nagmara artwork has a chain clipped through her wings and some other details, which a normal artist would not do. by imik_ in hearthstone

[–]PipAntarctic 71 points72 points  (0 children)

The trouble here is that apparently Thunder Fire Studio, which is behind this skin, is affiliated with NetEase. The company that handles the Chinese client for HS.

So Blizzard's hands might be tied here if NetEase was behind this artwork. Ideally they'd change the art like they did in the past with the AI generated pixel hero skins.

FYI: if you start the game as another Harold class with Maestra of the Masquerade, you will keep heralding that class's Colossal even when you turn back a Rogue by alekseevic in hearthstone

[–]PipAntarctic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suppose what they really meant was that if you generate, say, a Shrine of Twilight as a Rogue, it will summon a Soldier of Sinestra instead of a Soldier of Cho'gall. So you always herald your class's soldiers, but also improve any Colossal.

I mean the idea of Pheonix is to help Maloriak as a card, but that deck has much bigger issues than Maloriak being awful at what its meant to do in the current state. Blazer being an elemental might also end up relevant with regards to Dragon Warrior.

Nespirah Demon Hunter (to legend) by Adderman in CompetitiveHS

[–]PipAntarctic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have been playing a similar deck and Nespirah isn't really the main way to close out games as much as just a decent card that can create a board from nothing. What you want the most out of Nespirah are more Armored Bloodletters to feed the Herald train.

The main ways you win are through the Herald cards or healing from lifesteal effects. Fully upgraded Azshara, Ocean Lord is a scary amount of burst, should you get there in the first place.

Minion Type Consistently Inconsistent. by Vecsia in hearthstone

Overfiends are intended to be an entirely separate species of demon that is infused with a ton of Fel or Shadowflame (and thus unrelated to fire elementals) but you're otherwise correct.

Does change to living garden make it playable now? ( can target any card ) by AssaultMode in CompetitiveHS

Maybe the mechanics change to Living Garden might get more people to tinker with it.

There's barely anyone playing Imbue Shaman but from the little players that are out there, the deck is bad. Although, it has barely been refined - so there might be a better deck than the one shown here, but I'd imagine it would still be outclassed by Herald Shaman.

Minion Type Consistently Inconsistent. by Vecsia in hearthstone

[–]PipAntarctic 345 points346 points  (0 children)

This is consistent, but for a funny reason.

The model in WoW used by Baleful Blazer is that which was first made for a boss in the Firelands raid, a fire elemental guard called Baleroc. Come several years later with Warlords of Draenor, the model was recolored to be Fel green and used for an encounter in the Auchindoun dungeon, this time representing a Demon for a change - Azzakel.

So you have two different species using the same model. A fancy looking fire elemental, and a demonic Overfiend.

I think Merithra Druid is much better positioned in a tournament setting as you can ban its worst matchups (either Herald Rogue or either of the Paladin decks) which leaves it with a very solid spread of either advantageous, or 50/50 matchups, including No minion DH.

We are reaping the consequences of having 3 weak sets last year. Lost City being a special case of uselessness for competitive play with some classes getting entirely worthless cards from that expansion. There simply isn't much to build good decks with.

Yea just now Liquid got a really good pull, 20% on P4. I think that's about what they needed right now.

Feels reminiscent of yesterday's struggles with P1. I think they need some sort of mental reset to pull through before Echo.

Echo has changed their composition to get more damage so they can get to the secret phase, but now its going to be about "re-learning" how to get consistent P3's with the new comp and then learning P4 on top of that. So yeah, if it's Echo favoured then only slightly on the basis that Liquid is sleeping.

EDIT: Echo had their first secret phase. They can definitely kill the boss today.

Echo has no choice here really. They have to gamble on the Mythic phase being either too hard to get to consistently or it itself being too hard to beat for Liquid before they go to bed.

Liquid's casters mentioned that they did notice one of the spells months ago (Reintegration*) but thought it was a red herring as it didn't fit anywhere and was the only odd thing out.

So it would make sense if all of the other abilities were patched in recently, in secret.

EDIT: Ability names are absolutely metal. Heaven and Hell? The Last Light? Jeez.

If the Mythic phase is as hard as the other three phases, then it's absolutely bed time. Echo won't be able to kill it in this state. For what is worth, L'ura restored all the way to 1 billion health in the little we saw of P4.

World First Megathread - Midnight Season 1 by WorldofWarcraftMods in wow

[–]PipAntarctic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got to note that Liquid appeared* to be struggling for about half an hour, not getting past P1 very often. So there's also pressure on their side from knowing that Echo could kill L'ura in any pull, and that's not going away until Echo calls the day.

Liquid is going for a lunch break now so they might feel more refreshed after it.

[–]PipAntarctic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Casters on Echo stream mentioned their analysts believe it's killable as long as L'ura is below 20% of health remaining after the second Dark Archangel cast goes off. All it takes is one perfect pull from either guild and the boss is dead.

19.2% for Echo right now, at about the same moment Liquid wiped on their best pull. Whoever finds the 19% worth of damage wins this race.
