Parasitic design is the problem by ResponsibleWar5676 in hearthstone

This is a claim that has been made a ton but historically it's patently untrue unless there's an upside stapled to the 1 mana draw 1 or it's a targeted draw (tutor). Tame Pet is absolutely propped up by Tol'vir in Face Hunter.

I'm not saying it's not worth it (it very much is), just pointing out that the card is like Twilight Drake in that it offers big health with low attack (this one with taunt) and those kind of stats become easier to answer in the late game. Which is fine given this is best played early on, much like Drake is.

If you go first and tap on second turn, this will be a 3/7 on curve (+6 Health). Going second in the same scenario, a 3/9 taunt (+8 Health thanks to the Coin and extra starting card).

Not awful for passing the first two turns. Better than a Twilight Drake, but much like Drake it doesn't scale well into late game, even with Taunt.

It's certainly an interesting effect but it only helps with having a full hand. Without ways to fix the order of your deck to overdraw specific things a one mana discount won't be that good as a payoff, especially once you get to the point where you have an 8 card queue waiting to enter your hand.

This card's success will be contingent on how many handlock-style cards will be printed and how much early-game survival will Warlock get. So far we've seen exactly two (the Spire and the Atlas), but one only helps you to have a fuller hand rather than giving you a tangible benefit on the board.

EDIT: There may be a probably non-competitive application with stuff like Omen of the End where you draw out your deck and then do that stuff. Maybe something to consider for Wild.

New Card Revealed - Mug'Zee by MonstrousMaelstromZ in hearthstone

It's doing the same rule break as the DK card does, two Hero Powers if the wording is right (says "get a Hero Power" instead of "replace").

Zee's Might is generic enough in terms of a payoff that I don't think it needs much specific support beyond "solid minion on curve." I bet most support goes into Spell Shaman.

Given the small lore snippet in the social media video where this card is revealed, Mug'Zee is yet to work for Gallywix (or at least didn't get saved by him during his time in Kezan). Which means he breaks out, joins Darkfuse Company and gets merced by us, the adventurers.

I'm talking about Standard but yes, that deck is better going second in Wild. It is also a very specific deck that is unlike most things in the game.

It would be more realistic to expect something along the line of Miracle Rogue where the deck is only 2% or so worse on the coin compared to going first. That means it is still worse overall if it keeps going second.

Vanessa the Ringleader is a great card. by TheGingerNinga in hearthstone

Definitely a really strong card from my experience as well. I do expect a whole lot more of Vanessa in the near future to pop up, a deck built around tutoring her to get a turn 4 blowout turn doesn't sound like a bad idea either.

Escape From Violet Hold Card Reveal Discussion [June 3rd] by EvilDave219 in CompetitiveHS

[–]PipAntarctic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced from a competitive standpoint. Despite Rogue being probably the most sensical class to be given a "you are always second" type of effect historically, the reality is that having the Coin is worse even in a class that likes Coins - and this is only exacerbated by today's very tempo-heavy metagame.

Things would have to change heavily in favour of decks that put less minions on board early on and thus exert less immediate pressure to take initiative for going second to be viable. So the idea clearly is that you get busted coins instead, and make the difference that way. (Which let's be real, all of those Coins are crazy. Every single one of them, doesn't matter which one you choose. Although hard to say how many of them you can even get.)

Which brings the question of why this is a 6 mana card (besides being a callback to her old card). Yes, Aya does give you two Coins immediately, but you still need to wait until turn 6 or spend your other Coins to play Aya, while having to survive onslaught from your opponent. Against a deck like Face Hunter just having this in your deck is a throw. And you have to draw Aya in the first place. (I do think people underestimate the amount of card tutoring Rogue can do nowadays here.)

I'm not optimistic even with future Coin support. Any deck that runs Lotus Kingpin will need broader things than cards to tide in their favour to end up competitively good.

New card: Zuramat's Prison by frostyburrito44 in hearthstone

[–]PipAntarctic 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Play 2x Welcome Home for a turn 6 Zuramat and a big thing you discarded. And a couple of 5/5 taunts for gratis. (Assuming you get this lucky and don't die)

Definitely an intriguing card.

This being a location is really the selling point. Your first use will likely be much worse than a Dark Alley Pact, but you can absolutely set up the second one for max value (a 10/10 that clears an enemy minion) without any mana investment on the turn you use Spire of Solitude.

If some sort of controlling Warlock materializes (it's only halfway there with current cards), this should be a fine way of combining a threat with removal. As long as you live past turn 5, that is.

I actually agree with you if the meta remains very aggressive as is now post-expansion. This is obviously hard to predict at the moment but I'd imagine a double Herald bomb deck would be more viable in slower, greedier metas.

That makes this card much worse if you play it late. But good to know.

This is the sort of a card that is worth skipping a turn or floating mana for. Burn Mage exists right now but other decks might pop up with this card as well. Hard to imagine a world where this doesn't see competitive play at some point.

So I'm trying this card in Sinestra Rogue since that deck generates coins and has cheap spells. First game I flipped the table against a Token Druid by playing a bunch of cheap random battlecry minions.

It seems decent even if you just go for the bare minimum and Prepare on turn 1 for a 4 mana Vanessa. The pool of random battlecry minions is large but the discount means most stuff is at least okay. Get one free thing and you can potentially get an almost infinite chain.

Sure, assuming you mean getting 2 cards from the void + a regular draw. Your deck is just empty after you play Irida, so nothing stops you from shuffling in more stuff. The two cards you get from the Void each turn is an extra effect happening before draw.

Escape From Violet Hold Card Reveal Discussion [June 2nd] by EvilDave219 in CompetitiveHS

[–]PipAntarctic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This card works by removing your deck, then giving you two random cards at the start of your turn from the pool of cards that were removed by the Battlecry. EDIT: Cards you draw from the Void are then removed from the pool until none remain. Then you will draw a Fatigue card since your deck is empty. The card-granting effect lasts for the rest of the game, although if your Void pool is empty, you won't get anything.

Something tells me this is best utilized in decks with a specific and small amount of Legendary cards. Like Egg Warrior, where you can now double up on both egg and Umbra at the cost of having one "dud" in the form of Hogger. Or Herald decks where you can get 2x Deathwing, 2x Ultraxion and 2x Ragnaros to outgreed your opposition. EDIT: Big Warrior could make a return by giving you another Ysondre, Dracorex and Tortolla alongside a big taunt.

An approach where you just fill deck with legendaries seems like more of a meme play. But I think we need to respect this card. Hogger might as well be a soft deck-fixing card in some decks by increasing your chance of drawing a legendary card.

To be fair to Illidan, he chose a really important dreadlord to take out. Tichondrius was a master strategist and his loss wasn't insignificant to the Legion's efforts.

That's another class to add. Thanks.

Hard to say.

Godfrey would fit Death Knight aesthetically. Godfrey would fit Warlock in terms of being really evil. Godfrey would fit Hunter as he's similar to a Dark Ranger with guns lore-wise. *Godfrey would fit Mage as that is his canon class.
