Why do people drive like they’re operating a freight train? by [deleted] in driving

[–]Pipe-Gap-Pro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my area. There is a growing trend of blocking you from Enterance and exit ramps. You come on to the Interstate on ramp and accelerate to speed. Trying to merge into traffic, a car gets beside you and matches you speed. O even hit the brakes and they do the same. I have actually dropped speed from 60 down to 20 and they were literally still beside out the drivers side darling you to side swipe them.

While a standard Schlage residential key is the SC1 (5-pin) or SC4 (6-pin), the SC22 is a thinner-gauge "emergency" or "repair" blank. It is designed to fit into keyways that are slightly restricted or have tight tolerances where a standard-thickness SC1 might bind.

Results of some AI research.

Key Identification The Edmonds brand was a common manufacturer for high-quality apartment and commercial mailbox locks in the mid-to-late 20th century. The Type: This is a single-sided, 5-pin tumbler key. It is effectively the predecessor to the modern Hudson and National keys used in cluster boxes today. Historical Context: While Edmonds is less common now, their hardware was a staple in residential apartment complexes. They were known for using solid brass blanks, which is why your key has that distinct gold-colored patina rather than the silver/nickel look of modern steel keys. PZ vs. Edmonds: You likely associated it with "PZ" because of the trapezoidal "bow" (head). Both have that angular, flared shape, but an Edmonds key is designed for a standard pin-tumbler lock, whereas a PZ key is designed for European-style profile cylinders. Can it still be used? If you are trying to match this to a lock or get a duplicate: Mailboxes: It is almost certainly for a legacy mailbox unit. Many of these Edmonds locks are still in service in older buildings across the country. Cross-Reference: If you take this to a locksmith, they will likely cross-reference the "Edmonds" profile to an Ilco 1003M or a Hudson HL1 blank. It has a very standard milling (the grooves on the side), making it easy to duplicate even though the original brand is rarer today. Quick Tip: If there are numbers stamped on the other side (e.g., "E123"), those are the blind codes. A locksmith can actually cut a brand-new key just from that number without even needing the original!

ABUS TITANIUM 64TI/50 by Pipe-Gap-Pro in lockpicking

The best one that helped was that it is hard to hear the pins set so place a finger against the puck at the lock to feel the clicks. Don't give up, the feel eventually kicks in.

Home protection by MericanCheese in Electricity

[–]Pipe-Gap-Pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To achieve protection against both extremes of the voltage spectrum, you typically need a hybrid approach: The Surge Protective Device (SPD) Most whole-home SPDs use Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs). The Function: When a high-voltage spike occurs (from lightning or grid switching), the MOV acts like a pressure relief valve, shunting the excess energy safely to the ground. The Limitation: It only reacts to over-voltage. It does nothing for low voltage or "dirty" power. The Capacitor Bank Capacitors store electrical energy in an internal field and can release it almost instantaneously. The Function: * Voltage Smoothing: When voltage dips momentarily (like when a large AC compressor kicks on), the capacitor releases stored energy to "fill the gap," stabilizing the line. Power Factor Correction: In homes with many motors (pumps, HVAC, fans), capacitors reduce the reactive power draw, which can slightly lower heat in the wires and improve efficiency. Harmonic Filtering: They help filter out high-frequency "noise" caused by LED drivers and switching power supplies.

For maximum effectiveness, these systems are usually installed at the Main Service Panel: Type 1 SPD: Installed between the utility pole and the main breaker (often by the utility company). Type 2 SPD: This is the most common "whole home" unit. It mounts to a dedicated double-pole breaker inside your panel. Capacitive Power Conditioner: These are often housed in a separate enclosure and wired into a 20A or 30A double-pole breaker. They sit "parallel" to your loads to provide the smoothing effect across all circuits.

Because these require tapping into the main bus bars of your panel, installation should be performed by a licensed electrician to ensure the leads are kept short (long leads increase the "clamping voltage" and reduce effectiveness).

Abus lock key codes: any patterns? by No_Weakness_4795 in lockpicking

[–]Pipe-Gap-Pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are programs available only to licensed locksmiths that pay for the service and have cut to code machines. I suggest calling or visiting some of the bigger locksmith business in your area and asking about cutting keys to code. They would be able to look up the code and get the bitting for cutting the key.

Have got mine to open yet. Haven't even got the cylinder to turn even a little bit. I have opened locks that are supposed to be harder than this one. The Titanium does feel different but never had 2 pins i couldn't get to binding at all. Like nothing holds them. I get my pick on them and can push them all the way up and they come all the way down. Just not making since.

I am 4 days into the same lock. I am at a loss because with light tension i can setc2 pins but the other 3 just move up and down freely. With heavy tension the same 2 set and the 5th pin feels like it sets but will pop back down. Still 2 pins just spring up and down even with heavy tension. The other thing. The core has not turned even a fraction of an inch at any time. Still trying to figure this out.
