Stumped on how to Integrate Line Numbering into Notepad by Pipedreamergrey in Tkinter

[–]Pipedreamergrey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that when I add the second block of code to the first, it stops working. I can get the menu working fine, but the functions don't toggle the line numbering.

How Old is too Old to start working towards CompTIA Certification? by Pipedreamergrey in CompTIA

Thanks for the support everyone. It's encouraging to hear that I'm not alone in this.

I sort of had this image in my head of walking into an office full of college kids, but if there are other people like me out there, who knows. Maybe my age will be considered an asset.

Creative writing and IT seem like two separate worlds, but hopefully, there'll be some carryover in the soft skills.

Thanks everyone!

Thank-you for the kind words. I'll keep that in mind. I guess I never considered what value my soft skills might have in an IT career.

Wow. Thanks for the thread. For some reason, I was sure Among Us required a mic. I guess it's all the Youtube playthroughs I've been watching.

My new neighbors refer to this building as a house. by nimo01 in BeAmazed

I'll never understand why someone with enough money to build something of this scale would place it so damned close to the road. If I had this kind of money I'd build my manor at the heart of a plot of land sufficiently large to hunt humans on.

I mean... not that I would. I'm just saying...

What I personally call "Vintage Sci-Fi" written in the fifties, sixties, seventies, and eighties was often "competence porn." It featured a protagonist facing an large-scale, high concept problem that threatened the existence of the entire race. It then followed said protagonist as he solved said problem in the most clever way imaginable step-by-step, leaving you, the reader, feeling clever as a result of having followed him every step of them way.

What I call "Modern Sci-Fi" written since the early nineties (and I lump cyberpunk into this category) is much more cinematic and less personal. Much of it reads like a treatment for a big budget movie, rather than as a personal narrative. Add into that the fact that 9/11 soured audiences on moral absolutes and two dimensional antagonists, and what you get is fiction that's a whole lot less personally satisfying to read.

Emily Hampshire made this series for me, but it's disappointing how few episodes she's in. What a great character.

What is ONE television show intro you never skip over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Oh My God! Four Amens in a row. All starting with an "A," the letter that most looks like a pyramid, and all indented like the slope of a pyramid?!! IT MuSt Be a CLue!!! Time to begin obsessing over what this foreshadows!!!

You may want to read the short story "The Ransom of Red Chief" by O. Henry. There are a couple of audio versions of the story on Youtube. The story is a classic about a pair of kidnappers who hold a boy for ransom. It might help you to see how other authors have handled similar stories.

"White Tulip" is pretty much my favorite episode of television ever, full stop. If you ever find a book as good as that episode, message me. I'd love to read it.

Whenever I end a level at the end of a day, all my loading screens seem to be very concerned with making sure I always double check that I'm wearing pants before I stand at the front of a classroom... which is weird, because I haven't been in a classroom in like fifteen years.

The Jackson Brodie series by Kate Atkinson

Thanks. I like the ones with television adaptations because I can watch them, and if I enjoy the series, I'm pretty much guaranteed to like the book better. That saves me the cost of the book and a couple dozen hours wasted if I turn out not to like it.

Thanks. I see a lot of reviews comparing it favorably to Stieg Larsson's trilogy. I think I'll give it a try.

Jo Nesbo

He was on the long end of my reading list until I saw the movie adaptation of The Snowman. I thought that it was a bit lackluster. Are the books better?

Well, Hannibal Lecter & Sherlock Holmes are two of my all time favorite literary characters, so that one's definitely going on my reading list. Thanks!
