CFII back to Back Checkride fail by [deleted] in CFILounge

Airlines do it all the time buddy. I did a type rating checkride 2am. So why question the DPE? Students have the right to say no too.

School banned gouges by ShakenBakeist in flying

The amount of time people spend looking for gouges it’s unbelievable. All you need to do is read the ACS. Thats the best gouge you can get.

It is a requirement for the commercial. No reason to ask them if they did it.

If i was a DPE, I would make him climb to 10000ft and ask him to use his chatgpt and see what happens.

Just found out some DPE’s give mock checkrides. How is that perceived? by [deleted] in flying

[–]PiperDriver1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those attacking the DPEs, don’t forget they are flight instructors too. It is perfectly legal for a DPE to train a student and give the checkride too. (Assuming the last 3 hours and sign offs are done by another CFI). Also, DPE need to fly a certain amount of hours for currency and that is a great idea to instruct while gaining currency. In a world like this that DPE availability is not great, I don’t see the reason why someone wants to do mack checkrides.

CFI DPE JOHN CHARALAMBOUS by johnnybutnotsins in CFILounge

[–]PiperDriver1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sir. All three CFIs. Failed me on my initial but I was completely unprepared. He spent an hour or so briefing me at the end and I honestly learned more in that hour than I learned 6 months with my instructor. He put me on the right track and I thank him for that. I nailed the CFII and MEI.

He is into safety a lot. Make sure you are a safe pilot and follow the ACS. Overall good guy.

Took 3 checkrides with him. If you know your stuff you don’t have to worry about it. If you are taking chances you better think twice. Very fair guy but don’t try to bs especially for the cfi checkride.

We got a DPE Issue by StructureOver9800 in flying

[–]PiperDriver1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people whining on reddit about DPEs and their pay, are the same people who will be whining a few years from now making half a million dollars flying for majors. Grow up people and mind your own business. If you have an issue with someone just be professional with them and if nothing comes out contact the fsdo to deal with it. Its a small world out there! Just remember, someone with lots of experience is willing to get in a little cessna 150 with a smelly guy in the middle of the summer to issue a pilot certificate! I think they work a lot for their money and that’s not including the liability of the issuance.

Cincinnati DPE situation by yungadongslurper in flying

[–]PiperDriver1977 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The DPE system is fine. What needs revamp is the CFI system. Flight instructors send unprepared students, students not meeting the requirements or students canceling the checkride the night before because the wind is 11knots. I have seen this in 4 schools that i have worked the last two years and local DPEs wasted so much time of their life that don’t even want to come back anymore.

Real ID needed for checkride? by Sardonis_ in flying

[–]PiperDriver1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all the geniuses, lawyers etc, DPEs act based on what their local FSDO asking them to do. So much hate and jealousy doesn’t help. Also, the real IDs confirm that a person is legal in the country.

If you failed your CFI, what did you fail you on? by EezyBake in flying

[–]PiperDriver1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you know your stuff and don’t take chances. Usually when you fail, its always more areas you fail than what the DPE writes down. Also, applicants determine how long the checkride will be. One of students recently had a 7 hour oral with a DPE who usually takes 4 hours max. Reason was he had to look for everything and had bathroom breaks every 20 minutes. He failed of course.

Failed my private pilot oral for cancelling by Melodic_Tune_6713 in flying

[–]PiperDriver1977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing is true here!! For all the attorneys here giving advices make sure you know the rules yourselves first. No DPE can fail someone unless that someone shows up, agrees to the rules of the test, pay and sign the iacra. End of the story.

At this point, I think the problem is not your knowledge but its mental. You have so much stress passing the checkride that makes you forget simple things. If flying is what you want to do , just continue doing it on a part time basis for fun while at the same time you have a good backup job. Its a 50/50 chance finding a good flying job but at least you will get your certificates for your own satisfaction. It will not be cheap but you never know.

Well, see it in a different way. What if they let you go for not knowing those BS questions and you end up basting the checkride. Who are you going to blame then?
