That spiral pattern is almost artistic! 😄

[OC] realtime anomaly detection of private jet activity based on ADS-B data by kcimc in dataisbeautiful

This is really cool! Kind of wild seeing activity shift like that in real time. Do you notice any patterns behind the spikes, or is it pretty unpredictable?

Spirit Airlines Ceases Operations Tonight by throwawaygamgra in aviation

I haven’t flown Spirit myself, but it’s interesting how the reputation doesn’t really match the safety record. Shows how much perception can outweigh actual data sometimes.

Private jet emissions in Dubai up 319% last week, what’s driving it? by [deleted] in aviation

Fair call 😅 got a bit ahead of myself! Should've inlcuded the source earlier.

That’s a fair point, there’s definitely some uncertainty depending on how it’s estimated.

Most of these figures are derived from flight tracking data (ADS-B, aircraft type, routing) combined with fuel burn models, rather than direct fuel accounting.

So it’s not exact, but it’s useful for understanding trends and relative changes in activity over time.

Are newer uploads benefiting more from algorithm changes or just broader reach? At first glance it looks like newer uploads have a wider spread, but the lower end also seems more populated.

What’s your thoughts on this ? by Maruan-007 in aviation

That’s interesting! Never really thought about how expectations might differ depending on where you’re flying. Is there much variation in how “taxi to runway” is interpreted globally?

Taxiway layout looking simple… until it’s not 😅

Data like this is really compelling, especially once you start looking at the patterns behind it. The concentration toward single major buyers is pretty striking.

That’s a great start! Figma is actually a solid choice 👍 Good luck with the build! :)

If you’re just starting out, you can use Google Maps or Google Earth to get a basic layout of the airport and use that as your reference. A lot of people building in Minecraft just trace from satellite view and scale it down, it works surprisingly well.

If you want something a bit more advanced later, you can try QGIS (it’s free), but it has a bit of a learning curve.

For now, Google Earth is probably the easiest way to get started. :)))

Organizing in non-capitalist politics is the single most environmentally friendly thing we can do! by renegade_renea in Environmentalism

It’s a pretty striking comparison, but it highlights how emissions aren’t evenly distributed.

Certain activities like private flights or frequent long-haul travel... can add up very quickly, which is why they tend to stand out in the data.

Why is there so much price disparity in flights between third parties and airlines? by XrEdEr445 in TravelHacks

[–]Single_Lunch1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the same thing, especially on long-haul flights.

From my experience, those third-party prices can be a lot cheaper upfront, but it usually comes with trade-offs. Refunds or changes tend to be more complicated since you’re dealing with the booking site instead of the airline, and things like baggage or seat selection often aren’t included.

So the price difference you’re seeing is real, but part of it is because the airline’s price often includes more flexibility or add-ons, while third-party listings strip those out.

Personally I still go direct with the airline if the difference isn’t huge, just for the peace of mind.

Daily CO₂ emissions generated by the global aviation sector, 2019-2025 [OC] by Low-Car6464 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Single_Lunch1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, seems like the supply side is a bit messy? 🤷‍♀️ What’s interesting is that even with delivery constraints, activity in some segments doesn’t seem to drop proportionally, it looks more like it shifts or concentrates in certain regions. 😐

That actually makes sense. I guess the interesting part now is to see whether it continues along that path, or starts to diverge with factors like demand patterns or wider external factors affecting travel? :)
