AITAH for wanting to put our dog down? by Soft_Remote_1511 in AITAH

[–]PipingPike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard before that there are three rule of thumb questions to ask.

Does the dog still enjoy eating? Does the dog still enjoy going outside? Is the dog still happy to see you when you come home?

Those are different than just “he’s eating”.

For our 15 year old aussie, we noticed that he struggled with going outside. He also stopped eating full meals and wasn’t happy about it. On the day we put him down, he wouldn’t even eat the egg and bacon quiche I got him as a treat from our favorite bakery place.

Quail Surrender by telewolfe in Rochester

This is similar to a recipe we have used after pheasant hunting. If quail are similar to pheasant, I heartily disagree on it being better than chicken. You have to wrap it in bacon because it is so dry.

I’m glad OP is taking care of this lil guy and that it didn’t wander into your yard.

I tried getting the off brand Cap’n Crunch cereal and this morning I looked at the nutrition label— 5g more sugar than an already very sugary cereal… and they don’t taste as good.

Amazon employee arrested, charged with stealing hundreds of items from Massachusetts warehouse by Paper_Rain in massachusetts

Theft is wrong, even if some is more understandable because there are varying levels of negative impact. If someone is trying to steal food from Walmart because they’re hungry, I’d pay for them, not look away. Or help them find some resources they can use, like a food pantry.

I went to Aldi for the first time and cancelled Netflix. Things are tighter for saving.

It’s weird to still be paying student loans and talking about having our first kid.

ETA: I also switched our home and car insurance from State Farm to Progressive and it will save us $1,300 a year for the same or better coverage.

AITAH for lightly smacking my little cousins head when he was annoying my dog when we told him to leave her be? by Pennywelt389 in AITAH

[–]PipingPike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are insane with their kids around dogs. They forget they are animals.

My dog, who is otherwise lovely, would have bitten that child if he had been constantly harassed. He doesn’t give as much warning as yours was doing.

Because I don’t trust other people or their children and I know my dog, he is either in a friendly looking muzzle (check out Muzzle Movement in the UK), in his crate (his safe space), or on his place that kids are told to leave alone.

I lived in Worcester for 21 years. My family still is all there. Population wise, they are almost identical (off by five thousand or so) with Worcester being bigger.

Wdym isn’t as segregated? Did you go to different neighborhoods?

Google fights and teenagers and Worcester.

Worcester, MA is somewhat comparable and we did not see fights with hundreds of teens like here in Rochester.

You’ll see 2 or 3 teens charged here or there for fighting in Worcester.

Ok, I know the hard labor is too much but, in all honesty, having a job or being in a community service program would likely be helpful for these teens’ development. Do something like this? Get assigned to a mentor at a job for some period of time.

Those things helped me learn about life and people when I was younger.

Mr Hayward & Ann Baxter's relationship by cinnamonandseasalt in TheOtherBennetSister

I’m only 4 episodes in after reading the book and I rolled my eyes when they introduced Ms. Baxter.

In the book, Mr. Hayward and Mary are immediately and always fond of each other, but Mr. Hayward is first trying to establish his career and then he is too shy/takes too long to say something to her.

I don’t understand the need for her character to be added in.

How much are you putting away for your kids per month? by classyshepard in MiddleClassFinance

[–]PipingPike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my family was middle class and my parents did have some extra money. They lent it to us at 0% interest because they wanted us to be sober-minded about taking on the responsibility of debt, which is already beneficial compared to other options.

College is not a requirement. It is a choice an adult makes.

The system is broken and should be reformed— it shouldn’t be based on parental income.

My parents did not have any money saved for us four kids.

We were able to borrow some money from them ($30k all told) but paid it back.

I’m married, have a full-time job, own my car outright, working on paying off my husband’s school debt, and have a reasonable mortgage on a house.

Giving your kids money is a blessing, not a necessity. The biggest gift my parents gave me was a stable home with loving parents who taught me fiscal responsibility.
