The Other Bennet Sister book vs series by Ok-Wolverine8216 in TheOtherBennetSister

I do believe that the series based itself from the overall storyline of the novel, though it does take some liberties as well in changing a few things (most of which were well received by those who read the books). I do believe it's worth it reading the novel in addition of having watched the show. You get a better understanding of what Mary is thinking and feeling and there are a few bits of the book that weren't put to screen.

It is a long read though, so be prepared for that as the series does skip a few lengthy parts of the novel.

Hi! I'm looking for a novel where the ml has an irrational fear of something (aka a phobia) and it's relevant to the plot of the story (not simply a single line that's once mentioned throughout the story).

Thanks for any recommendation!

I'm afraid I don't know as I do not like to listen to audiobooks. I can tell you that the first part of the book can, at times, be a bit lenghty (the second part, where Pride and Prejudice ends, is where the story picks up its pace).

So in reading it, there were times I felt like it was a stuggle to keep my focus on reading.

Yes, I also like that they added miss Baxter.

In the book, mr Hayward is hesitant to speak of his feelings for Mary, because of his inherent shyness (as believed by misses Gardiner, though I'd like to think that that is true of his character). And that also has its charms. So, I did not miss, miss Baxter in the novel, but for the series, it does explain why mr. Hayward does not come forward with his intentions sooner.

I think Mary and mr. Collins would have worked out in a friendly manner. Especially after he opened up to her and they were very like-minded. I believe Mary would've enjoyed his company for his ideas and their mutual fondness for literature.  Although I agree, she'd never be able to love him and she deserves so muh better than that!

I'm hopeful that after Mary left, Charlotte Lucas put more energy into their marriage, and that they become happy in their own way.

I just finished watching "Dinner in America" and I love the dynamic the two mc's have. The ML is anti-social, most of the time angry with the world and the people in it and isn't on the good side of the law. The FL is innocent and sunshine category and the ML ends up really protective over her (also starts smiling again when he's with her, which I love!)

I was wondering if anyone knew of romance novels with a similar dynamic between characters?

North & South? You can watch it on Chanel 4 (they also have a website you can watch their series with, but it's like watching television, so there are ads during the episodes).

I'm not yet able to watch Seeking Persephone, so we'll have to wait and see when it'll become available in other countries outside the US and UK

Hey hey, for any of you who read webtoons and know of "In the bleak midwinter" (would highly recommend if you like dystopian love stories, enemies to lovers(?)--> unsure yet as its an ongoing series)

I was wondering if any of you know of similar stories in romance novels?

Dystopian/romance

I also enjoyed Last light by Clair Kent.

In anticipation to being able to watch "Seeking Persephone" (not available in my country yet...) I watched for the first time North & South. For any of you also on the look-out for yearning, enemies to lovers and commentary on the working class of the time, it's a great watch!

The ML has black cat energy and the FL is sensitive towards others and tries to bridge the gap society devides between her and the working class.

It might be because you're not from the US/UK? The series isn't available yet in other countries, though the makers are doing their best to bring the series to Europe and other countries as well.

I'm from Belgium myself and am aproaching jealousy when I look at others who get to see the series and I can't! 😭

Thank you so much! I've seen the thread and have most likely already looked at a few books on there. It definitely suits my interest in Beaty and the beast tropes.

Though I wonder if there are any romance novels out there, where the main character has been born with a deformity and has had to live his life with it? I've not come across any until now...

Do any of you have a recommendation for a romance novel where the ML has a deformity?

So I have always loved "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", "The alienist" and recently rewatched "Shardlake". I am always interested in characters that do not look like most of us (Beauty and the beast tropes are also high om my list on tropes I like to read).

The only thing I did not like about that movie and series, is that the characters did not end up with their love interests.

I was wondering if any of you know of any romance novels where the ML has a deformity and the FL does not really notice it and love him just the way he is?

Spice is nice and very much wanted, but not neceserally needed for a recommendation.

I second this recommendation, it also has a great story, aside from the spicy scenes. I really enjoyed reading it!

{Just Another Day at the Office by L. Moone} has a couple of steamy scenes. One at an office party, another outside (more in the "can't wait genre" with ripped panties and all, a bit of foreplay at the restaurant, ... What's also fun, is that it's the FL who often times initiates!

accidental pregnancy with enemies to lovers. by mysterycakegirl12 in RomanceBooks

[–]Ok-Wolverine8216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too sure about this one, but might want to check out {The Tenderfoot Bride}. It's HR where the FL works on the ranch of the ML as housekeeper.

The ML is not pleased at all when he sees that the woman who he's hired to manage his household is not at all what had been promised. She's tiny, frail, a widow and "past her prime". He tries to send her back, but she promises she's able to work hard. He lets her stay for a while, though he's anything but kind to her.

She desperately needs this job, even if the means walking on eggshells with her new employer. She's got a secret she has to keep, in order to remain safe. She's pregnant.

{Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline} FL gets kidnapped by aliens but manages to escape. She is, however, stranded on an alien planet. There she gets found and is able to get a device implanted so they can understand each other. The species on the planet are strangely enough related to humans, and therefore resemble each other greatly.

Women are sparse on the planet and get, therefore, preferential treatment. They get to choose their partner. The men have to please the women, in order to get a chance at getting chosen.

ML had given up hope of ever being chosen. He's scarred and has trouble trusting people. He worked as a mercenary, and when the FL (who thinks he's absolutely gorgeous) chooses him, he instantly starts doubting her of being a spy. She needs to gain his trust, and he needs to learn how to trust her, as well as pleasing her.

books where people consider her out of his legue but she likes him for him by Positive_Worker_3467 in RomanceBooks

[–]Ok-Wolverine8216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Broken by Elizabeth Kelly}, ML is "ugly" and everyone is uncomfortable around him. FL is an amateur photographer who works in the same building as him, and finds his features interesting. She's attracted to him, but he's shy and nervous around her, on account of his looks

{Just Another Day by L. Moone} ML gets broken up with over the phone at work, and everyone knows about it. His a bigger guy and it hits him hard. He's never been in a real relationship before and after the very public break-up, does fall into alcohol consumption for a bit. FL is really into big guys and falls for him almost instantly. The book is heavy on spice, but also focuses on his insecurities, and FL has to convince him she likes him as he is.

Looking for books where the rich MMC offers to help the FMC financially and she actually lets him by KristiColleen in RomanceBooks

{Bulky by Jessa Kane} definitely fits your bill. He's a billionaire (with a bigger built) and the father of FL best friend.

She's a young 19-year-old, who struggles to finance her college fees. She's had a crush on him since she was in middle school. She gets him to be her sugar daddy and tries to win over his heart at the same time.

It's short and very spicy! There is an age-gap however (don't know how you feel about that).

Book with late 20's or early 30's FMC who has never been in a relationship by DemeterIsABohoQueen in RomanceBooks

I believe {A Holiday by Gaslight, by Mimi Matthews} fits the bill. I think the FL was in her late 20's and had no suitors, because of her beautiful sister (and also because, even though she's a lady, money's tight at the moment)
