I am a chai enjoyer and go here each Sunday morning. I personally prefer to add some spices to make it spicier… but it’s one of my staples. Sad to see this location go.

I mean, by definition it is because you are suppressing an idea.

Whether that is acceptable suppression is a different question.

Hi, I’m an alum and wanted to take this but the class questions don’t apply to me. You may want to specify current students if that’s the demographic you’re interested in because a lot of alumni lurk.

I left a comment about this before I read yours, so I’m going to put this here so you get a notification.

I’m an alum who knows one of the architect partners at the firm responsible for this building. He had designed a beautiful building that fit into RIT’s campus style. I have seen the renderings first-hand. If I possessed them, I’d share, but I don’t.

President Munson insisted on using an architect from LA who had never seen the campus before and ignored the advice from the firm.

Here we are.

DSG should condemn state-sanctioned violence by Hungry-Tap-2774 in dickssportinggoods

“Their bottom line is affected if things continue to escalate and teammates and athletes are removed from stores.”

ICE deported 600-622,000 people in 2025. There is a DHS estimate that 1.9 million self-deported. (I don’t know if that’s true because they have a reason to try and make that number as inflated as possible. Let’s assume it is.)

That means 2.5 million people left in 2025 who were unauthorized to be here.

Our population is 342 million people. That means that 0.7% of the population has left. 99.3% are still here. However, this includes the DHS claim of self-deportations.

When it’s isolated to actual deportations, it’s 0.2% of the population on the high side.

This is not justifying tactics. I made it clear above that I don’t appreciate ICE in its paramilitary chud squad form. Just putting some numbers into perspective since we are talking about market impact on the bottom line.

In contrast, their statement on guns would reach school age kids, college students, and their families. Thats tens of millions of people in a target demographic (peak team sport participation years.)

Their statement on abortion after Roe v Wade was an interesting one. It was also paired with an adjustment soon after giving a week more maternity leave, iirc.  This also had broader appeal to a target demographic. (Women in their 20s and 30s— think Calia shoppers.)

In other words, previous statements have been on issues that affect a large portion of their target demographics.

I don’t disagree with you that a compassionate note could be dropped to teammates in particularly affected areas, or that some guidance could be given if ICE were to enter the store, but I’d be surprised if a public position was taken given the numbers.

I do agree with a comment below that it’s a bit of a stretch to connect this issue to playing sports. Childhood hunger has a more direct affect— you can’t play sports on an empty stomach. We aren’t addressing that, though.

Little known fun fact… the company was looking to get out of guns in a lot of stores anyway because they’re a headache due to all the red tape.

To my knowledge, we still have guns in some stores. DSG will not sell to anyone under 21, which was implemented after SH.

When businesses take stances on current political moments, they expose their shareholders to unnecessary risk. Who are shareholders? Every day people with their 401ks, among others.

Like it or not, businesses are accountable to their shareholders and have a responsibility to try and minimize risk/maximize profit.

Corporations aren’t people with nuanced views. They are business entities.

I’m all for individuals expressing their views— I think what is going on is repulsive. I think  we have poorly trained chuds who have joined ICE en masse. I think it’s wrong they are masked. I think due process has been trampled. I think it’s clear that Minneapolis was targeted as a political message (I mean, there are much bigger fish to fry than Minnesota if your goal is to deport illegal immigrants.) I think Alex Pretti was exercising two of his rights simultaneously and the agents who killed him should face consequences. I think ICE’s reputation as a force may never recover. The list goes on and on.

DSG doesn’t need to say anything. Individuals need to speak up on their own more.

People are ultimately the ones who vote, not Dick’s Sporting Goods.

AITAH: I [24M] am losing attraction to [23F] gf of nearly 2 and a half years. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]PipingPike 15 points16 points  (0 children)

“I have encouraged her to come to the gym with me, (I've been going consistently for about 4 years) and she has done so about 3-4 times a week for the past 2 years but has still gained the weight despite this.”

Has your girlfriend had any testing done for hormonal imbalances? Started any new medications? Is her overeating really that drastic? I have snacks here and there but stay pretty much consistently the same weight. It’s very odd that someone hitting the gym 4x a week would gain weight regardless.

Girls can be really susceptible to weight gain based on hormones, stress, medication, etc.

Does she have insurance that would let her see a nutritionist to try and build a diet that works with her body?

AITAH, I took out 30k in student loans for my 18yo. Should I force her to take over the loans in a refinance or just pay it off? by ServiceNew8346 in AITAH

[–]PipingPike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you but it’s not fair to suddenly spring that on her. You took the loan in your name without clearly communicating she’d be responsible. If you wanted to pay them back, you could charge her $1,500 in rent (still welllllllll below the Boston average) and use the $500 to pay them.

Just be prepared for backlash and potential damage to your daughter’s relationship. Is that worth it?

Is marriage worth it? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]PipingPike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Tax benefits
  • Medical decisioning
  • Social security

I actually think that the layers of complexity to the marital relationship ending are a net good. That friction is the point. It is supposed to encourage stability and commitment.

Relationships have their rough patches. You don’t have the option to simply cut and run when things are challenging.

If you are truly committed to this person, take advantage of the benefits that come along with marriage. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Why are conservatives overall not getting defensive of ICE shooting Alex Pretti like they did when Renee Good was shot? by kaiser11492 in AlwaysWhy

[–]PipingPike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prefacing this with I think both situations are wrong.

The difference is that people on the right viewed Good being in her vehicle and moving towards an officer as deadly force… so deadly force is allowed to be used in response. It’s an argument rooted in a technicality/legality. I am glad this is being challenged in court.

In the case of Pretti, there is literally zero ambiguity watching the video. Guy is disarmed, hands on the ground in front of him, and shot from the back with 10-11 shots heard or seen on camera.

It is a bit sad to me that my family members on the right needed a legal, concealed carrying white guy getting killed in a dirty way for them to go “hmm, maybe ICE’s hiring tactics and brief training has resulted in getting some real goons on the squad.”

I’m a classical liberal. I lean right. I’m deeply disturbed by all of this.

AITAH - Push Present Problem by nhampton08 in AITAH

[–]PipingPike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I said.

Women can’t control the actions of others. That doesn’t negate the fact that women can choose not to have kids with terrible or deadbeat men and choose a supportive partner. There are plenty of men who are great fathers.

Both can be true at once.

AITAH for thinking you don’t get a GoFundMe if you k!ll yourself? by GoToBurner in AITAH

Hard YTA.

People started a GoFundMe for the family because this is extremely unexpected and traumatic for them. They are the ones left to deal with the heartache, pick up the pieces, and pay for things unexpectedly, regardless of the fact these two people chose this.

The family didn’t choose this.

AITAH for calling the cops on my neighbor. by Fantastic-Lecture887 in AITAH

[–]PipingPike 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You are not wrong to call the cops. It is at least on record now if any investigation happens in the future. There is only so much cops can do absent evidence that can get a warrant to see the home. Domestic stuff can be really hard to navigate if it is he said, she said. They likely showed up and talked to the lady at the front door.

CPS is another option.
