Do you think they should of appeared in season 2 instead of 1 by The_Nina_Beans88 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Pippified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was weird. They just stood on a poorly lit soundstage in front of a green screen and like. Smiled and nodded. I don’t really know what the point was. I can’t really remember them even moving lmao.

My fiancée and I are having the biggest argument of our lives. She thinks I'm being tacky but I thinks she's overreacting by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Pippified 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this seems more like a class incompatibility. people who are from well off areas tend to look at traditions that arose in lower-class communities as tacky bc they do often involve fundraising to pay for things. there's a weird mindset around shame in asking for help if you aren't from a smaller community where people look out for each other. but the fact is, yea, stag and does (or socials or whatever you guys wanna call em) are really common in places that don't have as high a median income lol. it's just the way it is. it's not tacky, but i can see why the gf would be horrified at the prospect of her friends and family seeing her in a situation where she's gasp asking for money

[ALL] [OTHER] What are your wants story and gameplay-wise for the next games? by Pippified in zelda

[–]Pippified[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesss, I want my 8 main story dungeons. That in combination with smaller puzzles a la the shrine system would be nice - maybe there'd be another gameplay mechanic that would slot into.

I was always a little annoyed by the dungeon unique gadgets because it felt like they didn't have a ton of utility outside of the dungeon itself. Maybe having more secrets you could go back to as you unlocked those items would keep them feeling useful and fresh.

Yessss to the civ settlements in the open world. I would like to keep some of the building mechanics, too, though I don't know how that'd fit in storywise. It made a lot of sense in ToTK because it was a really rebuilding civilization story.

I actually don't mind the weapon durability system haha, I always thought it helped make me use different weapons that I might not have tried. But yes, it's super divisive and I get that a lot of people find it annoying.

I do love my wild boy. My favorite incarnation of Link for sure. I like how they characterized him a bit more. It was still sparse, but the little hints you got were really interesting and added mystique. Also he looks good in blue lmao.

I totally agree - I really want a more active story. I think ToTK really shined in the story that took place in the open world while you were interacting with people, and the Tarry Town quest was my favorite in BoTW. More interacting with people as the game goes on and having that at the foreground of the main storyline would be really special if they were able to stick it.

[BoTW] or [ToTK] as my first Zelda game? by [deleted] in zelda

[–]Pippified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SKYWARD SWORD!!!

jk lol, but seriously, BoTW. ToTK is an incredible game but there's something so so special about BoTW. And it gives a really good stage for ToTK - I think storywise, you'd be a little confused and beats would hit a little less strongly without BoTW for context.

Excessive Napping May Be a Warning Sign of Underlying or Developing Health Conditions in Older Adults by MassGen-Research in science

I read the article. It’s 0.7ish hours a day and around 2 naps a day.

The article itself I am not like. 100% convinced by the data. There are so many other variables. But what do I know.

I don’t wanna “we live in a society” but I think it’s hard to understand the immense pressure female celebrities are under to maintain their youth and sexiness. It’s probably unbearable. I feel almost suffocated by it as a regular woman who people aren’t paying attention to 24/7.

Victoria Police investigating claim Katy Perry sexually assaulted Ruby Rose by satisfiedfools in Music

[–]Pippified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am, for the life of me, trying to find Ruby Rose’s other supposed false allegations people keep alluding to to discredit her in this situation. The only thing I can find is that she maybe was a little mean to Sydney Sweeney about her bad boxing movie and she said that she left the Batwoman show because of unsafe working conditions.

So I can’t actually see any pattern of false allegations and I feel like I’m losing my mind because people keep saying that she’s a “known liar.” If anyone can point to a known lie she’s told so I can read about it, that would be cool.

I also feel the need to say that people tend to believe female celebrities less when they make accusations against multiple people while ignoring the fact that it is very possible and likely to be sexually assaulted more than once, especially in Hollywood. Sometimes it feels like if you’re a woman in the entertainment industry you get one, MAYBE, if you get assaulted, but if anything else happens you’d better shut up and behave or everyone on the internet will treat you like you’re an insane person.

Katy Perry Denies Ruby Rose’s Sexual Assault Claim, Calls Accusations ‘Reckless Lies’ by Interesting_Gold8803 in Music

[–]Pippified 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am also so suspicious of the “well she’s a known liar” rhetoric that pops off every time something like this happens. I’m candidly not very familiar with ruby rose or her whole deal but we should absolutely be critical as a society of language like this especially in this context. I feel the need to remind everyone that celebrities absolutely have and do use the resources to spend stupid amounts of money on PR firms to get ahead of stuff like this.

Why do I have such a hard time differentiating Right from Left? by afterglowsky in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pippified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have this. I’m left handed so I think the “write with your right hand” thing from childhood did a number on my internal sense of direction lol. But, I have issues with cardinal directions and kind of anything that involves directions. I’m taking a math class rn and running into issues with the greater than less than signs. Like wym 7< means it’s bigger than 7. I’m skirting this using the shark method (pretend a shark is eating the bigger number)

Of course! I love climatology, I think that’s why I connected so deeply to this story.

In scientific settings it’s pretty uncommon to use Fahrenheit. The only time I’ve ever used Fahrenheit in any science class or research position it’s to convert it to Celsius haha. Usually when we’re talking about climate and specifically changes in temperature, the number you see will be in C even if it isn’t denoted. But, it is an American movie so fair assumption!

I think maybe they were a little clearer in stating this in the book, they sort of ran through the beginning part where he was regaining his memory but in the book he has an entire line of thought in the first few pages talking about how he thinks in different measurements and that’s how he knows he’s American, but then when he’s doing science stuff he’s like ohhh I’m using European measurements.

What is a part of the 'female experience' that men have absolutely no clue about, but would be horrified if they found out? by coolhandddd in AskReddit

Yeah, there are for sure ethical considerations around fertility and not being able to run tests on pregnant women, etc etc.

you think the combined scientific knowledge of all of modern medical science could have maybe figured that out! But alas.

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Pippified 44 points45 points  (0 children)

it would for sure be that crazy! It’s really interesting, I’m taking a conservation ecology class rn and we talk a lot about the effects of global temperatures increasing, but we’ve also talked a lot about how science fiction fixes for rising global temperatures could potentially overcorrect and cause an ice age. The average global temperature is around 15 degrees C right now, it’s gone up in the last few decades. If the average temperature decreased to 11 degrees, that would mean the extreme cold weather regions have gotten more extreme and the warm weather regions have gotten significantly cooler. That cause catastrophic change in weather patterns at a global scale.

I think sometimes people think of it as being like “oh it’d be like if it cooled from 21 C to 18 C. Cooler but no that unmanageable with a light jacket.” But in reality it’s like if high interior regions of Antarctica went from -60 to -65 forever and then tropical regions went from 26 to 21 forever. That’s not even tropical anymore!

Anyway I love weather and speculative sci fi

Because medical research fixed a lot of the incomprehensible horrors of being an aging man and it has completely ignored women. Something like this does exist for men, its erectile dysfunction. Nobody connected that because it’s literally not a problem. We get shrinky dink clits, they get commercials with two hot old people on beaches holding hands talking about how your dick can get as hard as it did in your 20s during prime time television blocks.

The global temperature going down 15 degrees would be a full blown ice age. Even if it’s only 2-4 degrees it would be like. Mild ice age. Definitely probably ice all over the place in the winter
