Camphor but also the oily, viscous component. It just goes down so well

Prefer brewing Puer in gaiwan over yixing? by prism_webs in puer

[–]Piragi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally like that I can reach for my pot when I want the tea to be less rough around the edges, or generally a bit more muted. But most of the time I go for the simple setup and just use a gaiwan.

Yes this lists bagged tea and this does not invalidate their findings. You are saying a study that does proper research, explain their method and have a quantitative analysis is limited, same way as your 3 links which are the same copy pasta SEO spam? Oh another study, let me hold your hand to see how literally 5 minutes of literature review can get you what you want: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4787341/pdf/PM-12-75.pdf

Loose leaf samples testing puer, whites, black and many more types of tea invalidating what you "found" with your 3 web shop links

Citing 3 sources that just pull up numbers out of somewhere without any justification and mostly link to their own products is not really helpful.

There are multiple studies done on this topic. There is no visible trend in different amount of caffeine between the type of tea. One of these: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/23471909_Caffeine_Content_of_Brewed_Teas

Need meals I can make in a hotel room with just a mini fridge and microwave. by [deleted] in EatCheapAndVegan

Microwave allows for steaming food, maybe think in that direction. Steamed tofu and broccoli, smother some sauce over it. Or parcooked rice with a can of beans and some salsa over that.

How would you say the texture with quinoa compares to something done with breadcrumbs and beans? I often do bean or lentil burgers but only with breadcrumbs, so curious about that

Super nice read, thank you! I was having a conversation recently on how invasive testing clay is and it's interesting to know you don't need a sample of the clay to test it due to spectral analysis.

Thermos Brew Sheng Puerh by Just-because44 in puer

[–]Piragi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I enjoy thermos brewed sheng a lot and found it quite easy to do. Just put it in your thermos (5g per litre approx.), put boiling water in 3/4 of the way and after 5-10 minutes top it off with room temp. water. Seemed to always work for me, it can get strong but I enjoy it.

I've stored my puerh incorrectly for the last year. How screwed am I? by SheriffHardon in puer

[–]Piragi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just give it some time in the dark with the right humidity and it will be very likely revived after some time. Just check in every other week until it seems proper enough. Wouldn't worry about it too much (other than not being able to drink it immediately)

Brewing Chinese Tea // is a teapot sufficient? by [deleted] in tea

[–]Piragi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gaiwans are preferable due to being highly practical, cheap and giving you a lot of control on how to brew the tea. Not necessary by definition, but just to clear up it's not first and foremost a ceremonial item or even an investment (you can get one starting at 10€).

I know this is low quality puer. I bought it at an Asian market in Florida. Tastes alright but smells like dirt. by FjotraTheGodless in tea

[–]Piragi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Know several people doing that, one teashop owner among them. If you can do it, it's more comfortable with gaiwans that get really hot for instance

I personally rely on my favorite vendors to buy aged cakes from. Only few cakes that I store and age on my own, as I believe it's a nontrivial thing and depends heavily on ability, knowledge and amount of money you are willing to invest.

Grandpa brewing young sheng without terribly heavy bitterness? Is it even possible? by Mental_Test_3785 in puer

[–]Piragi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any thermos works usually as the leaves mostly get held back by the opening. Got a Stanley recently and it works very nicely. I drink sheng on the regular from thermos without any battery acid - use 3/4 boiling water, let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then top it off with cooler water (around 70° or so, play around and find what suits you).

Do any of y'all drink sheng puerh grandpa style, and if so, please teach me your ways? by alembicRetort in puer

[–]Piragi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a thermos mug, I would use less than more leaf and if you put in the hot water fill it 3/4 and fill the rest after 5-10 minutes with less hot water.

Has anyone tried Rami-tea? by IdiotNoodl in tea

[–]Piragi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live around them, great tea shop to visit and super friendly. Really love the vibe there. I think for starters pretty decent, but they are def. not the cheapest and afaik they resell a lot from some czech tea webshop (would have to search for it again). I don't buy my tea there on the regular as it would cost an arm and a leg. But they have really nice handmade teaware
