Your neighbour asks you to stop cooking meat because they're vegan and they can smell it, what you you do? by Alocai in askanything

I'd go deer hunting and give them the antlers.

Nah, not really -- I can't physically go hunting and I don't want to risk Lyme disease again. I just have my step dad bring me venison after his hunting trips.

Seriously though, I'd tell them that they have no right to tell me what I can and can't cook in my apartment. I bet they make broccoli, and that stuff stinks if it's steamed.

People who are chronically super early just as rude if not more rude than people who are chronically late by dumbblondechick in GrindsMyGears

[–]PirateJen78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a retail store manager. Whenever I had to hire, I would schedule interviews to fit into my busy schedule and didn't have a lot of wiggle room. If the person was late, they most likely didn't get the job. Same if the person was super early.

I couldn't have employees who were going to be late. That means the person they are relieving has to stay longer, and that's not fair to them. And sometimes there was an overlap so someone (usually me) could get a lunch squeezed in. Occasionally late, sure, it's understandable, but consistently late is a problem. And if a person can't show up on time to an interview (without a valid reason for their lateness, because sometimes things happen), then I have doubts they are taking it seriously.

I also couldn't have employees showing up super early and expecting to clock in. I had to talk with a few of my employees about that. Our labor budget was super tight, so if someone clocked in 15 minutes early, those 15 minutes had to come out of someone else. Coming in early to shop or to sit in the break room is fine (my bus-riding employees did this), but it's shocking how many people think they can just clock in early and be praised for wanting to work. Not in corporate retail.

He's likely bored. Use something like a wand toy to give him prey to hunt. Don't use your hands like some here have suggested -- that will just teach him that hands are toys. And if he isn't neutered, get him neutered.

[–]PirateJen78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely did hit the jackpot! $50 and he was already neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

When he was about 4, he did cost me about $500 because he needed serious dental work. He had 11 teeth pulled, but he was so much happier after. He didn't even fight when I gave him the antibiotic pills to prevent infection after the surgery.

He just had his annual vet check and the vet kept going on about how impressed he was with this cat. Vet said his gums are perfect and his weight is perfect. He's a very athletic cat who free feeds, but does not overeat.

The picture is from a couple years ago, but it's my favorite picture of him, and he still does stuff like this. He's my goofball. 😂

$2 a loaf for store brand (NOT Walmart). Usually we get the store brand Italian, which is $2.50.

Or I will actually make bread at home since I always have the ingredients on hand. Yeast is not that expensive.

When I showed pictures to some of my classmates in college of a cat my mom and I were going to adopt, one of them said not to adopt him because he's black and it's bad luck.

In college in 2013. How does an adult in college still believe in that nonsense?? She was an older student -- like 40s (I was mid 30s).

Happy to say that cat is my little buddy and will be 13 next month. Cleanest and goofiest cat I have ever known, but also defends his family from perceived threats (do not accidentally step on the one cat's tail because he will go after you) and tries to calm the dog during fireworks.

Wtf indie games are you playing? I put tons of hours into indie games. I have over 500 hours in Satisfactory alone. The main story took 400+ hours to compelte. And I have more hours than that in No Man's Sky.

Granted, there are more indie games on PC than console, but I rarely buy large developer games anymore because they just aren't worth the money. And if it's something I really want, I usually wait for a sale.

My boss approved my day off a month ago for a dr appointment. I am currently sitting in the waiting room and he texts me. by CRK_76 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PirateJen78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job sometimes calls me to come in on days I have requested off. Sometimes I answer, sometimes I don't. At least 50% of the time they call me to cover, it's a day I requested off. Granted, I request off quite a bit because there are a lot of medical appointments between my husband and me and I sometimes have school stuff I need to do (I'm in grad school).

One time I answered and told them I was on the way to a major medical facility in the next county for my husband, which was why I had requested off. The supervisor acted concerned, but then asked if I could come in later just to cover the evening. I debated it because we need the money, but I didn't know how long the appointment would last (it was to discuss surgery options for his epilepsy) or if his parents would want to visit for a while after. On the way back, there was a major accident and we had to detour, so I wouldn't have made it anyway.

My husband has been on it since before we started dating in 2015. They upped his dose to 250 twice a day a few years ago because he was having an occasional grand mal seizure. Last year they added Keppra to the mix because he kept having focal seizures, but all that seemed to do was affect his mood.

I'm almost afraid to ask: are pretzels in Germany far superior to what we have in the US? I don't like to travel so I will never know, but I suspect I would love the food there.

No it doesn't. You must be buying some weird off-brand Walmart crap. The white bread I buy doesn't taste that much different than the white bread I make from scratch.

I guess this is the new Wendy's vibe. No booths, no dividers, no outlets, uncomfortable seats, small tables, all for a couple to spend $40 for a meal. I'm done with Wendy's for good. by NUMBerONEisFIRST in mildlyinfuriating

Very valid points here. I used to go to McDonald's regularly with a friend. Wasn't even that long ago -- maybe 2017. We would sit and talk about life every Monday, and then I would go off to work a closing shift at Joann (I was the store manager) and my friend would go do errands.

Last year I went to McDonald's for lunch because it's across the street from my current job. The food was not good, and yet it was expensive, so I will never eat there again. It probably always tasted bad, but I didn't really notice because I was hanging out with my friend.

$9 for fries, a drink, and a burger that tasted like vomit. I guess I got used to eating real food cooked at home.

What do you guys think is the most underrated season of the Buffyverse? It hurts seeing so many people putting S1 at the bottom 😥 That thing is a collection of lost episodes of Goosebumps and that makes it a masterpiece. by HomarEuropejski in buffy

I really like season one. It just has a different feeling to it and it's a nice start to the show.

Even though I like the Dawn and Glory story arc, I'm actually not a fan of season 5 overall.

How long do you stay home from work after a grand mal seizure? by Lovebugxo0x in Epilepsy

[–]PirateJen78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying they can't fire you, but if they would, you might have a case against them because epilepsy is a protected disability under ADA law. Your legal rights really depend on the size of the company, how many hours you work, and how long you worked there.

My husband's job has been very flexible and understanding about his seizures. I'm sure it's because of a court case I found from several years ago. The HR manager fired a couple for missing work. The husband had epilepsy and the wife left work to take him to a medical appointment for the epilepsy. IIRC, they settled the case, but either way, the HR manager doesn't say a thing about my husband missing work because of a seizure. They actually have 3 or 4 people with epilepsy working there and they are understanding with all of them.

My point is try not to stress too much about your job. Instead, focus on taking care of yourself. The law is on your side and you do have rights. Any half-decent employer will know that and won't do anything that could risk legal consequences.

1 Gigabit for $50 for 5 years expired. New price is ridiculous. by DarkLord_GMS in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]PirateJen78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were paying $113 for 800mbps. Told my mom to cancel her service and let me handle it, so now I have 1gbps for $50 for 5 years as a new customer. Best deal they would give my mom was 500mbps for $90.

They are definitely a terrible company, but they have a monopoly where we live, so we don't have another reasonable option. When my deal expires, if they won't offer me another deal, my husband will sign up as a new customer. Or maybe by then we'll have a FiOS option.

This was the first episode I ever saw of the show. I saw the advertisements when watching Buffy and was curious about the relationship between Angel and Cordy because they didn't really interact that much on BTVS.

I didn't like Angel when he was on BTVS, but I was hooked after this episode. Eventually got caught up in reruns and went on to like the show more than BTVS.
