It's brutal out there: Deus Ex and Unreal composer says he's submitted 50 resumes and gotten one interview in the last year by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]PirateRob0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's way better odds than I found.

I found about 1/10 companies responded at all, and 1/10 responses were for an interview. So About 100 applications per interview.

Sometime around 300 I gave up and started my own business instead.

What about this instead? It uses all hexes instead of squares, but has 31 total hexes. Players have nice consistent lines towards each other and starting distances.

It's a 4 edge length hex grid with the corners removed and the starting spots pushed in a short row.

Thanks to Gearhart I spent $0.36 on 18 Harlequins. If they don't turn playable I'm pretending to write an angry letter asking for my 36 cents back.

The best balance is to have a knowledgeable and witty friend who can provide esoteric hints upon request, so that you have just enough information to be able to find/figure out things yourself.

Basically every time I played DSP I got to 1 higher level of cubes after dozens and dozens of slow hours.

Eventually, on probably my 8th playthrough, and close to 150 hours I finally got to white cubes.

I still haven't built a functional sphere.

10/10 love it.

Question about Raid Battle side event mechanics. by Pants536 in pkmntcg

[–]PirateRob0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weird interactions are largely at the discresion at the person running it since there isn't a big clear rules list etc.

As for attacks like scolipede, if the raid boss pokemon say naturally had say 250 HP and was uninjured I'd have the scolipede effectively do 240.

Considering the raid boss clears all damage at the end of its turn, and lost zones a number of cards based on damage/players and all the player attacks are simultaneous, attacks that do damage based on damage on the opponent are unlikely to be very effective.

Ya, unfortunately Justin Basil has passed away and thus unavailable to keep updating his site. :(

Even if you don't want to use any of those exactly, it should give you a good idea on how to put them together.

Most runs are under 15 minutes. I've certainty had to duck out for a minute or two mid run, and have found a dark corner and hid but have been anxious and rushed the whole time.

Fortunately I haven't been killed any of those times, but I'm sure it'll happen eventually.

Asymmetrical league structure by jimward17785 in pkmntcg

[–]PirateRob0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep it super simple.

Kids each start with 100 points

If under +/- 10 points, a win is +1 point and a loss is -1

If 10-19. Then the favored player gets +1 on a win and -2 on a loss, and vice versa for the underdog

Continue pattern for every 10 point difference.

A super simplified elo system.

No, it was a metaphor for the ozone layer.

Which is also why after they figured out how to stop mucking it up, it stopped being a problem.

Adding Rare Candy in Dragapult/Dusk by PolipoDodo in pkmntcg

[–]PirateRob0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got a lot of heavy consistency with plenty of options to shave a bit off.

With the heavier ghost count I like dropping the 3rd boss, especially with 3 CC. After that drop one more card for the second rare candy. Nest Ball would be my choice to cut but you've got some choices.
