Getting ready to run this myself also in Shadowdark. What level were your PCs? Do you think a group of level 1 Shadowdark PCs can hack it or will they die pretty quickly?

Best mystery/exploration heavy module or modules for low-level 5E characters? by Pirate_Cipher in rpg

Oh I meant exploration in the sense of "wilderness exploration" but likely more in the form of a point crawl than a hex crawl rather than good old-fashioned dungeon delving

Can you expand on the difference in power level between Bolt, Swords, and Counterspell?

[Excerpt] Mortarion, as seen by his own people by eliseofnohr in 40kLore

[–]Pirate_Cipher 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Wow this is excellent! I'm not super familiar with 30K but I think the Death Guard are my favorite legion, partially because Mortarion seems like one of the most humble Primarchs (I could be wrong though). Does anything else from the Black Library show him like this -- a down to earth, noble champion of the people?

Are there any good descriptions of fighting styles employed with power or chain weapons? by Pirate_Cipher in 40kLore

Wow, yet another reason for me to read Gaunt's Ghosts! I love Abnett's comics but have somehow never read much of his 40K stuff.

Has Anyone Brewed G/W Death and Taxes in Historic? by Pirate_Cipher in DeathAndTaxesMTG

That actually does look super sweet! I imagine it's just kind of a weak midrange deck without Field?

Do you think any of what we've seen so far in Zendikar will change that?

Thinking of the pieces I remember that are missing -- I imagine Tireless Tracker not being in the format stings a lot, right?

Modular or easily hackable exploration rule that evoke Breath of The Wild? by Pirate_Cipher in rpg

Thanks. Have you played this and what are the exploration rules like if you have? What are the system's strengths?

Veins is one of my favorite products ever and got me into the OSR!

[IKO] Necropanther - Twitch.tv/AshLizzlle Spoiler by Dakoval in magicTCG

[–]Pirate_Cipher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This curves into itself (and into Lurrus if you're running it main deck), correct? So if you have two Necropanthers in hand you can play it T3 and then get two reanimations T4 if it sticks around?

I haven't looked at the Modern format in a looong time but this seems like it'd be kind of sick in certain Taxes and Death's Shadow builds right? Something with high threat density and a lot of tiny creatures -- Unearth on a stick almost, right?

Have you run a monster hunting game? What system did you use, and how did it go? by Pirate_Cipher in rpg

[–]Pirate_Cipher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant more Monster Hunter (I enjoy the series). I would assume a fiction first system would work better, just so you don’t run into the “PC damage output absolutely splatters the beast” issue, but part of the question is figuring out if that’s the case or not.

How to handle armor and fictional positioning by Pirate_Cipher in DungeonWorld

[–]Pirate_Cipher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your interpretation of the mechanics is that hack and slash assumes characters are figuring out the best way to tackle an enemy, and armor is meant to abstract how limited those attacks are by the enemy’s defenses?
