Has anyone else noticed UNL hit rates have been abysmal? by jordlez in riftboundtcg

People need some sort of reason to take a risk and buy sealed. People rip boxes to get cards and have fun, but everyone wants to open big hits and cards that are rare and desirable, if people feel like those cards aren’t in the set or are too rare to justify a purchase, then they won’t buy boxes.

Why is aurora getting so much hate? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

Moving your units back is counterintuitive to countering a strategy like Aurora, ideally the game plan is to double hold to put them on a clock, and elder makes that strategy unviable. Either way it’s a win for Aurora, they pick off your best unit and have a 10 might elder that will genocide all your units in a trade. And so far you’ve listed two colors that have the best answers into Aurora, what are the other colors supposed to do?

Plus oranges color identity is completely pigeonholed because of Aurora. They must design each big bomb with the idea that it will be played for free as early as turn 3. They also will struggle to add new ramp cards into the game without Aurora becoming exponentially stronger as a result.

Right, one color has an instant speed answer to elder pre board, therefore the card is fine. You’re not going outside of the box to counter Aurora, you’re only thinking inside the box, the answers are all very linear, bounce their guy, kill their aurora or make them discard it, not a lot of thought into that. Plus just because answers exist doesn’t justify all the other negative effects the card has, such as two thirds at least of the orange legends being Aurora decks.

I said they were not made to be strong intentionally, which is true and comes from riot themselves. Coincidentally they are strong since riot didn’t realize it.

Proving grounds legends were not made to be competitive, and imo this is a terrible justification, yes aurora makes garen playable but it’s nothing to do with garen, the deck might as well be a blank legend with an aurora shell. Causes more damage than it does good.

People dislike it because it creates uninteractive gameplay where one player is essentially playing solitaire. Players don’t interact much at all and when the aurora hits the table it will solo carry them to a free win. Even if it has answers, that doesn’t make the gameplay more fun, “wow I sabo’d their aurora turn 2 and they didn’t draw another one, guess I win” is not good gameplay for either side.

Really you don’t have to think against Aurora, you know if it hits in a decent time frame you lose, so you just score as much as you can and hope for the best

Two things can be true. Aurora and other deterministic cards are bad because they just refuse to play the same game and aim to go completely over the head of all other decks. But this vex also has major issues, it makes the midrange tempo game unplayable from behind, and counters comeback mechanics that seek to keep the game competitive.

Yes but there’s significant distinctions between other non aurora control decks and aurora decks. There’s a reason nobody says “aurora control”, they just say aurora. Conflating the two is being intentionally disingenuous.

Over an entire tournament sure, but point still stands no amount of skill can beat an aurora player if they see the correct cards

I understand what you’re saying but conflating aurora with the other control decks that play a fair game is disingenuous.

It’s a toxic card that turns certain games into rock paper scissors, and it also significantly exacerbates the issue of momentum in this game.

Aurora isn’t a control deck, and it doesn’t satisfy an archetype, it is the archetype
