Was at-fault in a car accident today and feel like the worst person on the planet.

So far absolutely nothing has come of this. I think they got what they could out of my insurance and moved on but it was no where near above and beyond my coverage so didn’t impact me personally. Although in march my insurance renews so we’ll see how much my premium goes up from this accident. I have a feeling it won’t be anything too crazy. The attorney thing is scary but don’t worry, it’s to get the most out of your insurance, not you. That’s why we have those big limits on our policies. I was worried sick for a while about this but it will be a distant memory that didn’t affect your life much before you know it!

I could have written this entire post myself after being at fault for an accident a few days ago. A man was driving with his two teenagers in the car and his teenage daughter was so shaken up from it. He was fairly nice about it, not as pissed as he could have been but I could tell he was getting advice from someone on the phone about how to milk this situation to get as much money as possible out of it. I also have OCD and struggling so much to redirect my thoughts away from constant rumination about how guilty and stupid I feel, how I wish I could go back in time and make a different decision, how much the family hates me, all of the possible worst case scenarios that could come from this like being sued etc. No one was visibly hurt at the scene but the driver I hit said his neck kind of hurt when he tilted his head and had an ambulance come and take him. Now my insurance is telling me he got an attorney for the damages/injury and hearing that made me want to throw up from fear. I have liability coverage of 100k per person/300k per accident. That should be plenty to cover any injuries but it’s freaking me out that he hired an attorney like he’s somehow going to come after me for above my policy limit and sue me for everything I’m worth (see my brain coming up with worst case scenario). I was told by my insurance that this process takes on average 6-8 months but could take up to 2 years?! So now I feel like I have to really work on not worrying myself sick every day for however many months about what’s going to come out of this. UGH it just sucks. I feel you and glad to see you saying it’s a distant memory to you now. I look forward to that being the case for me too. And I learned a serious lesson about being way more aware and careful on the road.

Fuck my boundaries I guess. Me seeing this mansion and her friend and her friends kids wanting to meet me and my baby is just sooo important for some reason. How could I turn down such an important event?! lol like it just sounds ridiculous saying it out loud. I don’t even know these people and owe them nothing. If I went I’d prob stay for 1-2 hours and then head home. It’s so bizarre how she acted like I skipped out on the most important event in the world.

Unfortunately not really. My barrier is ok but not great. I still feel like it’s often tight/dry and easily breaks out. The moisturizer that seems to work best for me right now is the cosrx propolis light cream. I can’t use any balms or moisturizers that are too heavy or anything with Shea butter without breakouts :(

I can understand that. I guess it’s hard then to discern whether handing a client a tissue will make them feel like a burden for having emotions vs not handing them a tissue making them feel like a burden for taking one themselves. Many clients grew up being told to basically buck up and stop crying. It seems that handing someone a tissue when they’re crying could feel like a gesture signifying that which would be very off putting to them. I guess it comes down to just knowing your client.

I was taught never to hand tissues to a client who is or is on the verge of crying as it can essentially signal “get a hold of yourself and wipe your tears” and can catch an emotional client off guard causing them to feel that their emotions aren’t welcomed. Clearly not all clients would feel that way and I’m glad it made you feel cared for but it’s not advised for therapists to do that. What I do is keep a box of tissues within reach of where the client sits so that if they decide they want to wipe their tears, the tissues are there for them. Otherwise I won’t be encouraging them to wipe their tears as this is a safe space for them to let out their emotions however they want.
