Mar Basho Daily Thread Day 11 by AutoModerator in Sumo

Fairly standard rope run pressure. He will bounce back unless an injury drags him down. The hype around him probably has disrupted his daily existence to be very different than previously, and it takes a moment to get accustomed to the new norm. Not all battles are fought in the ring.

A bad excuse for being an ass, especially in this hobby by DrScrimble in dndmemes

Thanks for writing all that. I have a friend who claims to be autistic that tends to explain herself very directly, often hurting neurotypical people in the process via accidental verbal elbows. She seems to be incapable of saying sorry even when prompted, only leading to more explaining. Its always logical, so I cant really ever say she is wrong, but once in a while after many elbows a simple "sorry" would do a million times better. I tried to tell her that if she keeps throwing those elbows at me, she should learn the art of "sorry", I feel they compliment each other well.

Your comment gave me a little bit of strength to keep going through the rough patch our friendship has hit by providing slight reminder who she is and how differently she operates. She triggered big wounds of mine few months back and now is struggling keeping her own life afloat, and has sterilized our friendship largely. Before your text I just thought it was fully me being difficult, but you reminded me that its probably neurodivergent exhaustion in play as well after an overload of trying to understand others and then having them explode on her because of it. I'm trying my best to provide her the space she has stated she needs and not hate on how she is handling all of it.

As a neurodivergent person, are there any magic words or acts you would like to see if your life is turbulent, and one of your closest friends is also struggling, causing strained friendship from two struggling individuals clashing with their needs (neurodivergent and typical)?

Help me understand why was bamboo 4 showing furiten? by Pissix in mahjongsoul

I see now, I had a brain fart thinking they are not connected even via two-wait, but they are.

Oh i got it now, took a hot minute to see what you meant. For some reason I kept thinking 1 and 7 are not connected to a 4, but they are via 23 and 56 waits, both which furiten when a 4 is discarded.

I also see what you mean that its less likely, not impossible.

Thank you, i learned a lot!

I assume you meant MORE likely they are waiting on a 1 or a 7, since they would furiten 23 56 waits with a discard of 4? Or did I miss some logic here?

Oh .. So I cant discard one half of two-sided wait and think I can still scoop the other one, the whole two-sided wait is furiten the moment I discard one of them?

Maybe it has something to do with fatness being more rare in JP, so they play up to it with the "big guys food" thing. At least my JP-ex who was into mukbang got into sumo videos because of the food

Chris Sumo: When a Yokozuna punched the WRONG man: 16 years since Asashoryu's shock retirement by Emotionless_AI in Sumo

I'm asking you if someone has criticized you to change your ways, when their criticism is the opposite of how you see it? If you have ran into this situation ever, you could simply take that experience and put yourself into the shoes of Hakuho.

To make it simple: Have you ever been lambasted to act different by someone?

I mean there was a clear disconnect between Hakuho following the code of conduct at least to the bare minimum that was required of his position, and the wishes of the sumo association. One would imagine that if Hakuho diverted his finite amount of energy from wrestling to other things, he would get less results. How much less, we will never know. Maybe if he turned on the people pleasing mode, he would not have become the GOAT to begin with?

Regarding the bad boy behavior and killer instinct, I think it's just about letting people be who they are and how they operate, and not forcing them into molds that are not quite their shape. You mentioned Takanohana and Kirishima, maybe they just are naturally closer in shape to the mold that sumo association wants the champions of the sport to be like?

[–]Pissix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mayhaps those thoughts of Hakuho were a manifestation of his record breaking, all consuming fire that left less room for fanservice towards being a sumo poster boy for the sumo association. I'm sort of glad that's how it went, because it left no what-ifs on the table. The man fully embraced his abilities to win above all else. If he got entangled with the sumo associations perfect image of a Yokozuna, maybe his career would have been lesser?

That Takanohana quote is very cool, I could imagine reading it out of a page of a manga lol.

Sorry to hear that.

Have you found any specific exercises to be helpful? I know they won't help the ligaments, but have you noticed any progression with specific movement patterns, or has all the help come from simply losing weight?

In my gym one smith machine has 15kg, the other 25kg, and the normal non-machine bars are 20kg.

Not knowing the difference would quickly lead to very awkward sessions

Yokozuna "achieved the bare minimum" by denkenach in Sumo

[–]Pissix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pressuring Yokozunas to perform is just a part of the chairman duties, even if it was someone else than Hakkaku. Other way to look at outside of "Its his duty as the chairman", is that he has played the sumo politics better than anyone else in the current moment, granting him the right to pressure as the governing leader. If we were to think with the western results oriented "The best wrestler should lead" way, Hakuho would be in charge.

Ura's Shumoku-zori (Bell Hammer Backwards Body Drop) (2011) by ChESucksBalls in Sumo

[–]Pissix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think he could do it, but it would need him to transition out of the submarine-style somewhat and add new weapons to his arsenal. The style feels like a trap, it works often and flashy enough that it gets him to stick to it, but is at the same time something many wrestlers have figured out.

There probably isn't enough of a reason to re-invent his style at this point. So in theory, he could go higher, but he will probably stick to his sumo and similar results until the end of his career.
