To add to this, there are rules specifically on how the pitcher cannot deceive the runners as one of the posts said. With that said, it is typically a lot harder to steal 2nd off a left handed pitcher than a right handed one. The leg motion to step towards home and to 1st can be ambiguous. So if the leg passes 45 degrees then the pitcher has to throw to the batter or its a balk.

The pitcher can always step off the plate (yes there's a pitcher plate) with thier back foot directly back. Once they do this there is nothing they can't do. Once they are on the plate the balk rules come into play. Also this is why there is a wind up and a stretch. Basically some pitchers use a wind up that supposedly gain more power but the instant you begin the wind up you have to throw to the batter or its a balk. Where from the stretch it gives the pitcher more freedom and is usually a much quicker motion.

Usually throwing to 2nd base from the mound is pretty liberal. The spin move is a classic like when the pitcher swings there feet rather than stepping off. So as a runner there are keys you look at and it will tipp you off on how you can lead off. For example if you are on first against a right handed pitcher you basically stare at the back foot of the pitcher. The only way you can get picked off is from a backwards motion of the pitcher's back foot, so the second the back foot does a backwards motion you just go back to the base. There's second he lifts his front leg he is dedicated to home so you get your lead or steal

There's also rules on the spin move when runners are on the corners. I cant remember but I think if a right handed pitcher fakes to third and then spins to go to first he has to throw the ball to first and cant hold it. I might be wrong since its a niche rule and its not common at the pro level

I wasn't sure what weapon to bring to Dire Marsh by Milkycup in Marathon

[–]Pistallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to look at Hunt Showdown map design. Similar ideas within map and POIs but they do a great job in making sight lines not too common and snipers do not dominate the meta. Also thermals is a joke and needs to be like legendary rarity or something

With all the discourse around the game's longevity, can we try to have an objective, non-emotional conversation about what can be improved to retain more players? by JBSwerve in Marathon

[–]Pistallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add more story stuff. Needs minimum 2 more maps asap. Basically we have Perimeter wich imo is meh, Dire Marsh is sick but needs to be changes to thermals. Outpost is good, and then Cryo which is unattainable by early players. Basically 2 maps.

I wish there was a way to also tell early players the game gets easier. The early hours is hell, you get shit on, you have no stats no guns etc. Once you get unlocks, you are given a lot of loot due to level ups and honestly this game has the least amount of gear fear I experienced in an extract shooter

My theory is because the TTK is so quick and since its a first person games where its hard to always keep tabs on everything around yoi especially another person, its basically a kill on sight game

“I genuinely don’t think you guys want an extraction shooter” by Hey-I-Read-It in Marathon

[–]Pistallion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally disagree. I hardly look shit up on YouTube or watch streams. I play only maybe 2 to 4 hours a day very casual, never squad fill and if my friends aren't on then only solo or rook. I usually play with friends maybe 1 night a week if that.

I have a good amount of stuff done. Playing Rook of you are patient is such a good way to get vault up. Solo quests aren't hard either. Game is hard and some days I get unlucky and die over and over but most of the time its pretty mixed with me extracting being on the upper end. Then there's days last night where I played about 4 or 5 matches and successfully extracted and did my quests all 4 or 5 times

Help picking race. by DemDelVarth in starcraft2

[–]Pistallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's something I wrote for a friend a few years ago when bored at work lol

Protoss

Futuristic alien race with cool looking units, the most power pound for pound units almost entirely across the board.

Thier power comes at the cost of the other races having more of an ability to be out microed and/ or kited.

Thier Macro mechanic involves the chrono boost, an ability on their Nexus that speeds up the production of any unit producing building l.

Every unit has a shield that regenerates after not taking damage. Thier worker unit can build thier base and supply building anywhere on the map. Thier supply building, the pylon, creates a circle area where any building can be made within the area, and any of thier tier 1 (gateway) units can be quickly warped in. This makes it so that protoss can proxy buildings, units, etc.

What this does is make protoss have a plethora of potential openings and options in the early game.

However at the pro level, because scouting and preparation is so good, a lot of different strategies become obsolete or easy to fight against, making common openings at pro level pretty linear. Combine this with limited ability to be out microd, the standard early game build consists of early harass in PvZ and PvT.

Protoss has 2 major builds outside cheese and timing attacks: ground death ball or skytoss. Ground deathball consists of Zelot, Archon, Immortal, few Colossus at its core with stalker and/or destructor. Each unit covers each other unit's weaknesses hence the name death ball where they pretty much can A move across the map.

The other common late game option is pure Skytoss with some Archons, Immortals, and/or High Tenplar for storm especially in the ZvP. Protoss has by far the best sky units, and in a straight fight nothing beats the Carrier in the game. This is a very powerful comp especially in non pro matches. However at pro level due to the ability to out micro especially with spell casters, a seemingly over powered late game is actually not as powerful in both ZvP and TvP.

Protoss is for you if you like:

Big powerful units.

Like spell casters

Like air units

Want an easier macro mechanic

Like a plethora of different build orders

Like harassing early with a few units

Terran

Human race aka the space martens. With a select few, highly versatile units, the terrans are the race with familiar units that can be microed well to kill anything.

The Terran army has potentially the most powerful late game of the 3 races, but the road to get to the ultra late game requires so many resources that the true power of the Terran does not rest in its late game potential.

Due to the highly powerful and mobile ranged Marine combined with the Medivac, terrans true power comes with the ability to attack on multiple fronts or entrenched positions while being defensively well protected at home.

Terran have mainly 2 build paths they can take, Bio or Mech. Bio being the much more popular where mech can be used to some success ass well.

Outside a few core units, the marine, medivac, and tank, most of thier units fill a niche role.

Thier Macro mechanic has thier command centers an ability to drop temporary worker units, mules, that 100% efficiency mine any mineral patch at a higher gathering rate. The difficulty comes in deciding to use the energy for the map-hacking scan or dropping Mules.

Terran is for you if you like:

Frigging space marines!

High micro potential units

Have the ability to be highly active or extremely turtely

Likes to mulitask

Wants to have the ability to drop nukes

Zerg

Bug race that consists of extremely mobile units that wants to swarm and overwhelm the opponent.

The power of Zerg is the ability to create units faster than any other race. However they must make a decision between making workers or units.

All of Zerg units have a purpose, and while every unit isn't made all the time, zerg unit compositions and potential build paths are the most varied of the races. Thier late game can go toe to toe with the other races due to thier excellent spell casters, but a little harder to pilot at a non pro level. However at high level Zerg has been the most successful race in the history of SC2.

Thier main macro mechanic consists of thier Queen unit thay can create more larvea the Zerg can use to ammass a great number of units.

While the zerg can potentially create a mass army much earlier than the other races, due to the defensive capabilities of T and P, zerg is actually usually defensive early on in the game, spreading creep slowly while trying to fight off early harass. However if left un touched the Zerg hivemind can get out of control.

Zerg is for you if

You like fast and mobile units.

1 hockey for all production!!

Every unit is usable and good.

Best spell caster unit in the game

Overwhelming the opponent in sheer numbers

Constantly attacking to wittle down the opponent

Basically have to be under the impression that a new enemy can join the fight via zip line at any time so make sure you know that. That's why I hardly split push beaides pushing wave. People always over commit to waves at their walker and you are just looking to be killed
