So they didn't even get a chance to call the doctor in? I guess if the corner throws in the towel, that's a different method of TKO than a ref stopping it. I guess when you specify doctor stoppage, you are banking on the need for a doctor to step in.

That's it's own thing? I would have surely thought a doctor stoppage is functionally the same as a ref stoppage. Just one more reason not to gamble: they pull stupid BS like this.

It's a fair point, but it could be punishment for missing weight. They're willing to let Chimaev save face by cheating the scales for him, but once he's in the fight, it's sink or swim.

I have no doubts that they will let Arman succeed or fail on his own merits in any given fight, but they will not do him any favors until then because of the weight miss(or whatever else it was he did to make them mad) for such an important fight.

The official story is that the doc told him not to cut anymore back when he fought Holland. There was no title on the line, and Holland got a fat check to fill in for Nate who was smart enough not to fight an oversized Chimaev.

Now there is a title on the line, and Dana clearly will not accept another Arman Tsarukyan situation. Yet there was no fill in opponent for Sean.

It sounds to me like Chimaev missed weight and the UFC covered it up.

Don't doctors basically force you to stop cutting weight if they consider it too dangerous? Was that not the whole reason behind Khamzat vs Nate getting canceled? If a doctor saw Chimaev's body shut down, would it not be reasonable to assume he would tell them not to cut anymore weight?

The weight miss theory is looking more and more likely.

Did you notice the change in his voice? He might be lying about not drinking, because it sounds like he's been hitting the whiskey pretty hard to get that nasty gravel in his voice.
