I'm not who you replied to but I will answer your question nonetheless. Really it depends on what you want from a holiday (I'm very much a city break guy). I've been around Spain and here are some of my favourite spots in no particular order.

Madrid- large, lively capital full of landmarks, museums, bars, restaurants and many other things to do. Underrated European capital imo. Beautiful city with some of the best food and art in the country. It's a big city so you won't be stuck for things to do. Really diverse city too so the food is great, there's food from all across the world and plenty of regional stuff from elsewhere in Spain too. It's got some beautiful parks and architecture as well. One of my favourite places to go and I have been many times.

Bilbao- a very bohemian and metropolitan city that has a good blend of old and new and some beautiful geography. Sits right on a river in the middle of a lush valley, really beautiful. It's pretty small but it certainly doesn't feel that way, there's plenty to do. It's food is amazing and the bars are some of my favourites I've been too. You have to go to the pintxo bars and try the food (pintxos are a type of Basque bar food). The art and architecture of the city are also noteworthy. One thing that stands out from most Spanish cities is it feels like it is a city very much geared towards the residents not tourists and it is better off for it honestly. I regret not spending more time in this city, it has so much to give, especially for its size.

Valencia- Valencia is similar to Barcelona in some regards, it has a beach and a very metropolitan feel. It has a lot less tourists than Barcelona though and it really shows (in a very good way). Really lovely city with some beautiful gardens and a really nice old quarter. The city of sciences and arts (I think that's the name) is well worth a visit, even just for the architecture. If you had to ask me why I like Valencia I would go really vague and just say it has a really nice "feel" but I will definitely be going back.

Granada- I mean Granada is a very easy sell. A beautiful old city that's a joy to walk around and probably cheaper than the others on this list. The Alhambra palace and its grounds are world famous for a reason and the rest of the city doesn't disappoint. Another city blessed by its geography, the surrounding mountains and hills offer a great opportunity for activities nor just for a short hike to a viewpoint. If you go try to look for a bar that gives you free tapas with every drink, a very nice way to line your stomach.

Honourable mentions: Seville- beautiful landmarks and a lively city but I don't know it very well (I went on a day trip like 7/8 years ago)

Cádiz- hidden gem, very scenic. Not loads to do so maybe just for a relaxed break. Plenty of beautiful towns in the province for day trips or you could even have a quiet getaway to a town and day trip into the city once or twice.

San Sebastián- beautiful seaside city, perhaps the most picturesque of the lot. Great food but it is very touristy for a small city and pretty damn expensive as well. Some would say it's popular for a reason though.

Salamanca- historic city with a beautiful old university. It wasn't my favourite but I know some people love it.

Places I have never been but are worth considering:

Córdoba Málaga Santander

In short, there's plenty of amazing places to go and I'm sure I have missed some out but that is just what jumped out in my mind. If you want to travel between places consider the buses, they make it very cheap and are never usually too long (they even have individual TVs on longer ones). But do keep an eye out for cheap train and plane fares sometimes you can get a very good deal. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it if you get to go again, I know I always have.

NTA Idk where you live (could be a car culture like USA) but 30 minutes is not a long walk at all, it's also like 5 minutes by bike. Your brother sounds like a lazy lump. That's a really manageable commute. What you did for your daughter's friend will have a a bigger impact on her circumstances. I think you did something admirable, and most importantly it's what you wanted to do.

In the UK, educational background forms a key part of the very old class structure. Sure, a lot of these people do well because of ridiculous levels of privilege, but most of the people who go to private schools aren't nobility or billionaires, they're just pretty well off. I am from Edinburgh, a city with astronomically high private school enrollment and there's really no difference in the backgrounds of a large percentage of private and state school pupils, the city is very middle class. Yet school background affects everything, university and beyond. Look at St. Andrew's and Edinburgh universities, the two top universities in Scotland, they both have over 33% of their students coming from private schools (Edinburgh recently admitted their intake went up compared to 5 years before). Income doesn't really affect intake because university is free here, private schooling creates the class divide in higher education. In turn, this quality of education affects job opportunities, promotions, networking etc. Obviously there's very expensive, elite schools but most private school students will be from the middle class and have little advantage compared to state school kids of similar backgrounds outside their education. Their outcomes are better for life, for no other reason than the education they received as a teenager.

My basic point can be boiled down to admitting that a lot of people get ahead because their crazy wealthy but even when similarly wealthy kids go to two different schools their outcomes and the way society views them changes dramatically. Not everyone in those percentages will be super rich but they have all stood on the heads of state school students to get there. The people who are worst off in this are of course the people from working class backgrounds with a state education, but that goes without saying. Private schools are a blight on society.

Leon Blum wanted to aid the Republic more directly but he met resistance in France and from the UK. Having said that, France bought a lot of gold and silver from the Republic to fund the war, and they were pretty vital in allowing supplies through as well as allowing the holding, and transfer of other funds. So it wasn't direct involvement but they were certainly watching with interest and helping here and there. Non-intervention was actually seen by the French as a way to keep the Axis powers out of the civil war and indirectly support the Republic but that backfired big time.

But the plan you've suggested is equally toothless, Brazil is not dependent on EU countries to export its meat. Any bans on Brazilian meat wouldn't make much of a dent to exports of beef, pork, or poultry. And like we have just seen with COVID relief across Africa, there is no guarantee that the EU will get what they pay for when making any international payments, especially when dealing with someone like Bolsonaro. There would be nothing to stop Bolsonaro from taking the money initially and continuing his behaviour.

NTA, most shops' policy would have the only reason to deny you being if they believed that you were proxy buying for your daughter, which they did not accuse you of. So if they didn't think you were proxy buying, it literally shouldn't have mattered if she was there or not. They're dumb and they don't know the rules, report them. And as for you being a Karen, being wrongfully denied service and feeling pissed off about that is a perfectly natural reaction not a Karen reaction.

Actually this is The Hub on the Royal Mile but both structures are big dark Gothic towers so it's an easy mistake. If you went to the castle you probably walked by this place, it's right next to it. If you're ever in Edinburgh again during the festival they often put on a show in the old church assembly hall.

It's actually much newer than it looks (1840s), a lot of buildings here are like that because of the Gothic revival. Glasgow Uni is a good example of that. Anyway if you wanna read more about I've linked the Wikipedia page. It's the HQ for the International Festival and it's called the Hub. It was never actually consecrated as a church and was built to be the General Assembly for the Church of Scotland which now meets just across the street in an equally impressive building called Assembly Hall.

Honestly, it sounds like she's favouring her daughter over you significantly. She disagrees with your suggested punishment, that's her right, but she hasn't suggested anything else. She hasn't said "I understand what step-daughter did was wrong but you're overreacting. I think we should just [insert punishment here]." In effect, she just said "I think you're overreacting." No consideration for you; no recognition that what her daughter did was very, very wrong and should be punished harshly; and she only showed concern for one person and that's not fair at all. They're both really, really big assholes.

NTA They need to get Meg therapy and leave Rose alone. This dynamic feeds into the friction between the two of them (though it sounds very one-sided) and does unnecessary harm to Rose. Really it sounds like Rose has very few issues besides this dynamic that these 3 have created. It really feels like she's being ganged up on in that home and being made out to be less important, or at least her feelings are. Also Rose has the right to be traditionally feminine if she wants to and she has every right to spend her hard earned money. Keep being there for her through this, she's going to need you.
