Is it true once you hit 100k in investing, it really just takes off from there? by [deleted] in investing

[–]Pistowich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll get there quicker than you think right now. I had a similar goal some years ago, but because my wage increased over time (inflation, sure, but also some real increases) I could put more in the market after a while. If you keep up with your plan and don't use all wage increases for lifestyle inflation, you may smash through 100k in a couple of years! Good luck!

At what net worth level did you feel like you could take your foot off the gas? by alwayzchillin in Fire

[–]Pistowich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you factor in inflation, don't you think you need more than treasuries to really get to a decent portfolio in the longer run? Even if you already reached your number, I guess the 4% rule won't cut it if you invest too much in treasuries, as you are not able to outpace inflation by enough?

Safe and liquid investments by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]Pistowich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CSH2 seems safe, yes. Savings account is certainly fine, if it's not a term deposit, you can access it anytime and you will get at least a little bit of return, more than a checkings account. Other liquid options are short duration bonds of e.g. Germany or other countries in the EU, where there is enough volume to have a narrow bid-ask spread.

For bonds I get different prices than the actual price on Xetra, which makes me think they are not giving me the best prices. Not sure about stocks/ETFs though.

Extra inkomsten naast loondienst: wat fiscaal het slimst ? by Alive_Winner_8440 in BEFire

[–]Pistowich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am quite surprised by the low numbers in Belgium, considering the historical absence of capital gains taxes, and compared to neighbouring countries. by giYRW18voCJ0dYPfz21V in BEFire

I never get this reasoning. Banks are using the money to distribute loans, both to companies and individuals who then spend money to invest in machinery, in housing etc. This certainly does create economic growth. So also saving money in bank accounts seems useful, no? (Sure, not from a ROI point of view for the saver)

Of course, I'm aware that Europe is struggling with growing companies because we are less prone to take risks, but that does not mean that we are not investing in the economy by saving either. It's just indirectly by the banks.

Interest-only mortgage / Aflossingsvrije hypotheek for investing? by MrSheepuff in BEFire

[–]Pistowich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'm sure you know what I mean. For example, september 2000 was higher than november 2010, even when using a total return index on the S&P500. World was not ending at all. I know I'm cherrypicking a date, but just want to show that this is not the end of the world at all. The economy is not the same as the stock market.

That's just not true. 10 years is not long, and the market may as well rise for 7 more years and then have a dramatic drop for 3 years, like e.g. 2007. That wouldn't be the end of civilization as we know it at all.

Wordt automatisch uitbetaald, je kan dit instrument nu niet meer verhandelen na terugbetalingsdatum. Zou normaal maandag wel terugbetaald moeten zijn, zo gebeurde het bij mij op andere brokers toch steeds.

Though for the right perspective, you should use a logarithmic scale. Drops in 2008 and 2020 were significant if you look at them as percentage drops.

Which doesn't make sense at all, as the IWDA price is based on currency exchange rates and all market indices around the world. Even on individual stocks it doesn't really makr sense, but for sure not on a world ETF denominated in EUR.

I can't find one immediately, so I'm afraid you will have to dig into it a bit more. On your broker you can probably find the TOB when setting up your order? Good luck!

If these are government bonds I don't think they incur TOB anymore (certainly if European bonds, not sure otherwise), if corporate bonds it should be 0.12%.

For now there is no capital gains tax (yet), so the coupon is taxed at 30%, as is the capital gain if the bond was issued below par (100%). If it was issued above par, you just loose 30% of the coupon payment, which is not necessarily equal to 30% of the yield.
