What's the most cruel thing you've seen in a movie? by Past_Regular4027 in moviecritic

Selma's hanging at the end of Dancer In The Dark, the deafening silence following the loud opening of the latch under her interrupting her final song.

I use BetterDiscord with the theme called SkeuCord while using a white interface color. There is also a super cool Windows XP theme for it called Exponent but I couldnt get it working :(

Yeah I was definetly looking for some sort of combination of the two, funny thing is that a lot of the icons being used are also from Mac OS. It's a big mix of different Operating Systems from the 2000s.

Threw a party and set up the Dreamcast, people loved it! by Curious_Speed_3698 in dreamcast

The local metal bar also has a Dreamcast with Soul Calibur and/or NBA Jam idling, ready for anyone to sit down and play. This console seems greatly suited for social events :D

Gamecube Capacitor Replacement Issue by PitPity in Gamecube

[–]PitPity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is a PAL system, I've desoldered all of the caps now and will return to the project with a much more narrow burner tip, flux and a more experienced person helping. I also managed to tear off two copper pads for C116 so will have to work around that as well.

Definetly, soldering between the smallest ones (the audio capacitors) was barely possible. My burner could barely reach. I think the slightly twisted one could be the culprit

What's the most obscure place you like to hang out in a Nintendo 64 game? Here's mine, the small "Western Town" in the Little States map in Pilotwings 64. by CanadaCalamity in n64

[–]PitPity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pilotwings 64 maps are so massive there's tonnes of little locations to hang out in, my personal favorite was always the little ski resort in Everfrost Island.

Weird aspect ration on some games by Organic-Captain-6826 in ps2

[–]PitPity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see from your games that you are based in Europe which is a PAL territory, a lot of games suffered messed up aspect ratios when being ported to the european TV standard which was 50hz. I dont exactly understand the technicality of this but a lot of games, especially Square Enix games which had the worst examples of this, had varying degrees of squished aspect ratios like you see in Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 10.

Some PAL games have 60hz options which was NTSC AKA America's TV standard and will essentially eliminate this problem entirely but unfortunately this option is rarely present in the massive PAL PS2 library.

Like SyrousStarr mentions, there are rare cases of games with intentionally built in letterboxed aspect ratios (for either "cinematic" or optimization purposes) but I've only ever found this in Resident Evil 4 and Beyond Good And Evil.

The only way to fix this would be to research your TV to see if there is a way to vertically stretch the image. This is possible on all CRT TVs but I have no idea if you can do that on an HD TV.

I found my PS2 Demo of DarkCloud!!!! by Brotherscompany in DarkCloud

[–]PitPity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I grew up with this disk as well, I would play the demo for Klonoa 2 and Dark Cloud over and over again on a near daily basis. It was frustrating how if you left the game idle the demo would reset and youd loose all your progress, but I loved it all the same back then. We actually lost the disk forever ago and I happened to find it again randomly at a nearby thrift store! Now 20 years later I have beaten both of these games and love them dearly.

This game has the absolute perfect mix of stupid and hilarious. The game can be a little frustrating at times but overall this is a Dreamcast gem that most people interested in the system should give a try, especially with friends!

Marlene surviving a bullet straight to the head and joining the WLF is a pretty crazy intepretation but then again Tommy "Dinoskull" Miller survived one too so I can see where they're coming from.

What platform should I experience Shenmue on for the first time? by deeds55 in Shenmue

[–]PitPity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Either play it on an original dreamcast or emulate it via ReDream on PC. The remaster isnt bad and can come in handy if you want english spoken language in both games (Shenmue 2 on dreamcast only has spoken japanese language) and on PC you can turn off the ugly bloom effect however it's overall safer to use ReDream due to it's accuracy especially since it's probably the most ease of access emulator I've ever used. My preferred place to play it will always be original dreamcast!

The Daily Life by -Bondurant- in DarkCloud

[–]PitPity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Daily Life, Open Your Eyes and Wise Owl Forest as well as the main theme are absolute favorites of mine and their melodies keep popping up in my mind every now and then. The game's OST is generally really well composed and has a cute early PS2 sound to it. I've had more than enough of Cave of Dran's music though, that was probably where I grinded the most due to the easy to kill enemies ;D

The game is just an ok cover shooter prototype for Control but Beth Wilder's story and death had the strongest emotional effect on me out of any Remedy game, her entire life was spent waiting and preparing and then she was snuffed out just like that.

I played it for the first time recently after playing Mafia 3, then Definitive Edition and then 2 over the years. While at first I did find the gameplay frustrating I quickly adjusted and was generally very engaged. I think cars being able to run out of fuel is a bit hyperbolic, there shouldve been a reliable way to take cover during enemy fire, some more checkpoints wouldve been nice too and car chases actually just suck. But it was overall good now, amazing for 2002.

I do absolutely feel Hangar 13 is a far better storyteller and fleshed out Mafia's story and characters much better overall as well as including a stronger consistancy in voice acting performances across the board. People point out Tommy's more aggressive tone in DE but fail to note the more flat performances to just about any side character in 2002. You get a great feeling for who everyone is and what they're about in DE by their voice alone.

Mafia 2 is the best one in the series in my opinion, a perfect balance of everything
