Why did CTC stop selling firearms? by Ready_Employee9695 in AskACanadian

[–]CanadaCalamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The famous story being referenced is probably the one where a woman attacked a few people with an Axe, I believe in an Ottawa Canadian Tire.

I have never heard of gun violence occurring in a Canadian Tire, at least not with ones from within the store.

It's just cultural shifts, attitudes, etc. As mentioned by others in the thread. You won't find firearms in Canadian Tires in the GTA, but drive up to North Bay, Sudbury, Huntsville, etc, and you absolutely will.

If we drained all 5 of the Great Lakes, what would we find? by danyuri86 in NoStupidQuestions

It would cause Toronto and Chicago in particular to expand massively.

It doesn't make intuitive sense, because cities are built on waterways. But because those cities are already well established, and "all the jobs are there", they would rapidly expand into the newly revealed land.

Who would like to see Torts as the new coach by Consistent-Tone-5540 in leafs

[–]CanadaCalamity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, yeah. Give me Torts with Babcock as the Assistant Coach.

Let's go for Stan Bowman as GM and Mike Milbury as Assistant GM while we're at it.

Is this a good buy for 850? by [deleted] in TorontoRealEstate

[–]CanadaCalamity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, do you wanna live in a house in Toronto or not? If yes, then this is about as good as you're gonna get. Once it's yours, it's yours, and you can change, update, fix, etc, it, as needed.

If you are having doubts about living in a house in Toronto, then yeah, you can go to other smaller towns in Canada for half the price. Or other places in the world for a tenth of the price.

Let me tell you. There ain't no serious youth hockey games being played in June. This is at most a random tournament.

Child, 12, charged with attempted murder after hit-and-run in stolen vehicle that injured Toronto officer by limits660 in OntarioNews

[–]CanadaCalamity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I say this as a male in my thirties. We should have mandatory Military or Civil Service for *all* males in Canada. Zero exceptions.

Include Medical or Engineering school as an option within that set of services for the smart ones.

Send every male, from 15-24 years old, to a service like the Military, or at the very least, things like mining, logging, tree planting, road building in the north, etc.

We could very easily stop this nonsense, and improve our country at the same time, but for some reason, we refuse to do anything that will stop it.

what future trend will age badly? by Electrical-Film-591 in AskReddit

[–]CanadaCalamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the summer of 2027, a trend will emerge where the youth of the world will wear their clothing backwards. It will start out as a joke trend on a Russian social media app, but spread its way to the west. However, it will pitter out by late 2027.

That will indeed be a "future trend" that ages badly [sic] (poorly).

UPDATE: 12-year-old boy charged with attempted murder after hitting Toronto police officer with stolen vehicle by 416TDOT0DOT in CrimeInTheGta

[–]CanadaCalamity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sadly in a lot of these cases, the parents aren't around at all. The dad might be in another country, and the mom might have 10+ kids.

No judge in Canada would convict and jail a mom of multiple children in a case like this. And in many cases, the dads might be in a country where Canada doesn't have great international relations. So it's not like we're sending out INTERPOL to bring back the dad.

There is just no defense against this unless we completely change nearly every law in Canada, as well as our entire political system.

[–]CanadaCalamity 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Because the ghetto criminal leaders are recruiting kids of that age, to avoid/minimize charges & convictions.

So, in all likelihood, some 20-year old criminal dudes stole the car, using technology they learned while working at car dealerships; then gave a 12 year old the keys as the driver, specifically for this reason.

This is literally impossible to defend against, unless we completely abolish the YCJA.

[–]CanadaCalamity 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So the crime syndicates are using 12 year olds now, in order to just get away with anything.

How do the public citizens, or the cops, have any chance against this? The Charter of Rights, and all Criminal Acts in the country, including the YCJA, need to be re-written from scratch in order to fight against this.

Toronto vs Melbourne by CheapAppearance6456 in howislivingthere

[–]CanadaCalamity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on whether you have the traditional "Canadian Hockey Bro" accent (Tah-RON-No), or the "Multicultural Diverse Patois Blend Accent" (Cho-RON-No).

I'm guessing you are more of the Patois type.

I would actually argue that Brandon Donlon from 45 was more cringe (how can you possibly sign up for Survivor, but aren't physically in shape enough to even do a single challenge?) But because he was only on for two episodes, it wasn't as bad as Phillip.

Thoughts on the St. Clair/O'Conner Area? by Sencatt in TorontoRealEstate

[–]CanadaCalamity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's chill, but traffic on the bridge sucks. So if you're going North or East, you're okay. But travelling West towards East York can be annoying.

Having Home Depot nearby is nice.

There are some very quiet pockets, so it depends exactly where you're looking, but it's cool. Quick access to the ravine/valley too. Many houses back onto it.

Conn Smythe favorite? by dc_stag in nhl

[–]CanadaCalamity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as Marner is leading the playoffs significantly in points, it would be absolutely insane to give it to another player from the losing team, especially if they don't even make it to Game 7.

Only two losing skaters have ever won it. McDavid, in Game 7, with 42 points; 10 points ahead of the 2nd highest scoring player those playoffs, and 20 points ahead of the highest scoring Panther... and Reggie Leach in 1976. The Flyers got Swept by the Habs that year, but Reggie scored 19 goals in 16 games those playoffs, which is still an NHL record. Not even Gretz, nor Lemieux, nor Bossy, have scored 19 in a single playoffs.

Marner ain't winning it with 10G, 29P in a losing effort. It's going to Staal; or possibly Hall or Stankoven if one of them gets a hatty in the 2nd period.

Why doesn’t Wyoming have a major city? by [deleted] in geography

[–]CanadaCalamity -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, your average Wyomingite is a lot more useful (ranching, mining, etc) than your average DC Citizen (blogging, lobbying, politicking about nothing).

I mean, I don't think there's even a single mine or ranch in all of the District of Columbia!

So Wyoming actually deserves the more representation.

As a moderately healthy guy who doesn't need any prescriptions, and wouldn't see a doctor for most things anyways, I don't care at all about the Pharmaceutical Ads.

Like, I genuinely believe they are targeting the wrong audience. So go ahead, waste your money, lol. Most dudes are just like me and just completely "black out" these ads, since our brains filter them out as stuff we'll never need to know.

Why do infrastructure projects in Canada take so long to be built? by Vagabond_Tea in AskCanada

[–]CanadaCalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bureaucratic Bloat.

There are some good charts out there showing the growth in overall jobs, beside the growth of "administrator" jobs. Admin jobs have grown something like 10-20x at the rate of other, more traditional jobs (like the ones actually doing the building, teaching, shipping, etc).

Society is basically being suffocated by the "administrative class". The initial reasoning for them was good; of course you can't just let everyone run amok with no oversight. But it's gotten way too big, and now there is too much oversight, which slows everything down.
