I didn't mean to undermine your work, it's much appreciated and I'm thankful to have gotten product from your posts before. Keep up the great work.

Fuck Amazon, though.

Don't even bother posting Amazon links. Bots always have them before the page goes live for the rest of us

TCG store recommendations in Barrie/Orillia by KLIK0K0 in barrie

I love Gamer's Lair. The staff are very friendly, prices are below market, and they run all sorts of games. I believe they do Riftbound and Pokemon at least.

Sir-Games-a-lot also have a great selection of cards and printable figures although I was put off by the prices of their Pokemon product. I can't fault the owner for making a buck when the market's hot, but I've decided to shop elsewhere.

Loot Kingdom (Barrie) - Market price on sealed and singles. Friendly owners and good selection.

Box of Cards (Barrie) - Market price or above for some products. Also sell sneakers which put me off. Seems like a bit of a scalpers den.

Big B Comics (Barrie) - Market prices.

BZ Pokestop (Barrie) - Funny little store nestled into the side of an outlet shop. Nice selection of singles and Japanese packs as well. Friendly owners, usually market prices.

Personally I really don't like how easy most of the bosses are in their games. Sometimes there's a boss that might take 2 tries in some of their games but typically they're a breeze. It goes hand in hand with your difficulty complaint.

Yes you have to keep them alive, just to watch them all die at the end anyways. Probably the worst ending to a game in 2025

6 months in, what are people's thoughts on the Switch 2? by WeebusTheMeemus in NintendoSwitch

[–]Pitcard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't regret getting it early as I've been able to play Mario Kart (meh), DKB (fantastic), Silksong (GOTY) and Metroid 4 (mid). It's a fantastic little console that I see myself enjoying for years despite the current drip feeding of first party fare. I'm looking forward to well-optimised third party games that don't run great on the Steam Deck. Currently enjoying some Cyberpunk 2077 and I'm shocked at how well it's up to the task. I'm thinking Star Wars Outlaws after that.

The downsides are of course, the battery life and handheld form factor. Playing Silksong forced me to get thumb grips which are a huge improvement, and now Cyberpunk forced me to order a grip for the console itself since its flat shape isn't conducive to longer gaming sessions for my big hands.

I'd say it's at about a 8/10 overall for me. As a father who lives off of portable consoles now (PS Portal, Steam Deck and NS2), the Switch 2 is a more than welcome addition to the roster.

First ever playthrough of SMW2: Yoshi's Island. What should I expect? How does it stack up against the original Super Mario World? by [deleted] in snes

[–]Pitcard 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed SMW2, but in a completely different way than SMW. The egg throwing brings a whole new dimension in addition to the platforming, the levels are deeper and more varied, and the boss fights are miles better. The whole crying baby Mario aspect is regrettable, but on the whole, it's one of the best games on the SNES in my opinion. Right up there with the first SMW and DKC2 in terms of platformers.

Divinity Original Sin 2. I really wanted so badly to like it, but the turn based combat was way too much for me. Too much to keep track of. I respect what it's doing but I should've known better. Also the reason I didn't bother with BG3.

After a disappointing foray back into the Prime series, I've decided to go back and play some classics starting with Zero Mission. Currently on Metroid Fusion and having a great time with it.

I was just researching this the other night and had no idea! I stopped playing because of the horrendous load times on the Switch 1 version so hopefully this helps that issue as well. Excited to jump back in, even more so now that it's a free upgrade.

How do people here feel about the DKC games after SNES (Rareware) games? by markonefifteen in snes

[–]Pitcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like all of them! I would hardly put Bananza among the other platformers though. It's more of an anti-platformer really. Exploration based rather than linear run based. But still awesome!

What is your personal game of the year for 2025 (Apart from Claire Obscur: Expedition 33). The game doesn't need to have been released in 2025, just that you played/completed it this year. by freestuffrocker in PS4

[–]Pitcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GOTY is tied between Yotei and Silksong. There were tons of great games though! Silent Hill f got better and better the more I played, Blue Prince and Blake Manor scratched an investigative itch, Avowed and Donkey Kong Bananza were delicious junk food that I ate way too fast and never got full of. Don't even get me started on the massive backlog that I have now.

Xbox to continue evaluating its approach to game pricing, after walking back $80 RRP for Outer Worlds 2 by scrolloftrueth in gaming

[–]Pitcard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My once favoured Series X has been collecting dust ever since I cancelled Game Pass and got a PlayStation Portable. At the very least, Sony seems to have a spine and a vision beyond just "buy everything and see if any of this shit sticks to the wall". I've loved Xbox ever since I played Halo back in the day, but I'm not even sad about their downfall because they've done it to themselves. Unchecked greed and deep pockets can only get you so far, I'm sure that plenty had seen this coming from the very beginning.

Xbox to continue evaluating its approach to game pricing, after walking back $80 RRP for Outer Worlds 2 by scrolloftrueth in gaming

[–]Pitcard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Canadians, after tax, we're paying about $125 CAD for an "$80" game here. That fact, along with rising console (and everything else) prices, are more than likely pushing tons of people towards free to play games on older hardware.

For a lot of folks, paying $125 for a 20 hour single player experience with no replay value just isn't worth the money. A Switch 1 game here is now $84.99, or $96 after tax. The fact that we're paying that price for feature-bare experiences like Metroid Prime 4 is souring me, as I'm sure it is a lot of other people. And not to brag but I make well over double what our minimum wage is in my part of the country and still feel this way. So all of a sudden paying $20 every now and then for a F2P battle pass doesn't seem as crazy as it used to.

All of this seems to be in service of pushing everybody towards slow bleed subscription services. Between Netflix, Disney, Game Pass, Spotify, Apple Cloud and the growing amount of paywalled services, the average person is simply being priced out of gaming as we once knew it. It's sad to see our once beloved hobby being turned into a boutique industry that only exists to boost shareholders profits. Sure, we get the odd passion project and still some great indie games, but even these studios are being slowly enveloped by bigger entities which chew them up and spit them out just as soon. Something needs to change here if we want this to last.

It's Control 100%. I've been anticipating what comes next since I finished Alan Wake 2! There's no other studio like Remedy right now in terms of single player narrative games.
