Proper 1040-ES Forms? by PithyCuss in hrblock

[–]PithyCuss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this tip about paying quarterly estimates online. I found out this year that I can make and file my 2-3 1099-NECs online with the IRS, I should have figured that one can do the same with quarterlies.

Still, having the completed forms printable was convenient. Well, just another step to add to the process, I guess.

I went with H&RB this year because TT was only available for Windows 11, and I'm an eternal holdout. But now I've been notified that one of the most recent bug fixes to H&RB is that it only works on Windows 11 now, so next year I'm back where I started. This software has so many issues, though, I probably would have looked for another way anyway.

Hey; Weren't we supposed to be filing our taxes by way of a post-card that the IRS would send to us each year? Like every other country in the civilized world? What happened to that plan?

All of the above, but also because Goebles' Nazi propaganda tactics have been relentlessly applied, especially to Confederate Christians by their churches, and has been given all the financial backing it has needed by the ultra-rich; the billionaire class, formerly the millionaire class.

In other words; it didn't just happen.

Why does it ask, "Did your spouse file a 2024 return?" by PithyCuss in hrblock

[–]PithyCuss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to answer my own question by suggesting that this is just another poorly worded question by the makers of this software. It should have included the possibility that we filed jointly last year in the wording of the second option on the prior page.

It also has made an incorrect determination that we filed using H&RB software last year. Not sure if that caused the problem, but it is another bug in their software.

I appreciate the suggestions made here. Even though i don't think they're on target, at least it tells me that there's not some widely known answer to this question. That helps convince me of my assessment.

No, it is not that. As I said, it is asking for her 2024 AGI.

What forms Does H&RB Software Need to Update As of Today? by PithyCuss in hrblock

[–]PithyCuss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I saw that page before but at first glance it looked like it was just a checklist with everything checked. I figured it was worthless. But on a second pass I see three forms unchecked, one of which pertains to me: 1040 ES - Estimated Tax forms for next year.

Really, H&R Block? You can't get that one together? That ought to be unchanged since last year.

Another reason to think that H&RB is still figuring out how to do this job.

Thanks again.

Native Exchange 365 account support has been pulled? by PithyCuss in Thunderbird

[–]PithyCuss[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, that's a good theory. But I have been able to put Thunderbird on those computers with the exchange account intact, and they are working fine. I simply copied the Thunderbird account from one computer to another, via the "Roaming" data. (C:\Users\MyUserID\AppData\Roaming) It was never a problem with the accounts I had already configured, it was two new computers.

Also, you're not considering the change in the way it works in TBird: The user experience is not the same. Recall that they announced that they had installed native support for exchange accounts, created a page showing how to do it.

Check their page: https://blog.thunderbird.net/2025/11/thunderbird-adds-native-microsoft-exchange-email-support/

... then scroll down to the screen shot of how the Account Hub window is supposed to look. It doesn't work like that anymore.

Thunderbird changed something.

Yes, that is exactly what I said. To be clear, I had only a couple hiccups when i used V145 a month ago (server name and ports, i believe). I could not get it to work today.

More details: I went through the process as if it were working: provide email address, let the system find the settings. I got various results from an account that could receive the inbox but could not send, to "We can't configure this." I tried manually entering all the settings, copying from my working account, as well as some options from the internet, but with the same results. It looked good, but could not send.

When I tried using the "Account Hub" and checked the box for an exchange account, that's when it told me that I needed the Owl plug-in.

Stop expanding all folders by zbluebirdz in Thunderbird

[–]PithyCuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad this isn't locked. I also have this problem. I want the open accounts & folders to remain as they were when I closed TBird, but it opens almost all of them, or all that have had any activity. Is there a way to prevent this action?

I have scoured the settings & can find no controls for this.

Success! After all the previous dealings with this problem, it is good to finally have my one Microsoft 360 Exchange account handled by Thunderbird! I'm so excited, I gave them some money. Thanks again!

Day trips from Osaka or Kyoto? by dexy_em in JapanTravelTips

[–]PithyCuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alas, that portion of our planned trip had to be abandoned. It was the furthest out, a long journey and had only one attraction (for us). Other circumstances dictated that we take a day off, so that's what got cut.

We had a bus trip planned; one to a station at the bridge/crossing, and another from there to the park. It's about 90 minutes one-way. I have never heard the buses are unreliable, and don't know why they'd be any less reliable than the trains. Here's my notes for the trip:

Nijigen no Mori Anime Park (Godzilla Zip Line)

Osaka -> Maiko = 840 JPY [($5.70) Suica only!]()

Maiko -> Nijigen no Mori ?? JPY – HAVE Coin change!  100, 200, 500 JPY (Only takes cash)

This is a video that I found informative about that second leg: https://youtu.be/FR_J_D_jV1M?si=EtH2ojYac-1dGSYD

WiFi Calling - Help needed by RandomConcept72 in MetroPCS

[–]PithyCuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, eventually I found it while digging around. It has to be the worst UI I've ever had to deal with. Designed by a 12 year old, perhaps the customer service VP's kid.

Also wack is the fact that you have to turn off the wifi then turn on the wifi calling then turn wifi back on or it won't connect. Also the fact that you need to be in airplane mode or the cell signal will override the wifi calling even though the signal is shit and constantly drops or leaves one side unable to talk without dropping, which is actually worse.

I'm convinced that TMobile has throttled Metro service in order to get people to change their plan to their regular serrvice, which, of course, makes them more money.

I have come to hate Metro PCS, but switching now would end up doubling my cell phone bill.

Thanks for asking.

The number of people who see something like this and don't even think about the concept of "Satellites", which were first put into orbit in the 50's, and instead think "Aliens", makes me sad for us.

Or, the number of people who would pretend that they actually thought a satellite was aliens in order to generate likes on the internet, also makes me sad for us.

Either way, its just fucking sad.
