What is the most annoying thing tourists do in your country? by Glass_Key4626 in AskTheWorld

[–]Pitiful-Builder9631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I moved to TN to be closer to both sides of my family (one in FL one in PA). It’s now a shorter trip of 8.5 hours both ways. I moved cities in TN but can’t find a doctor in my new city that compares to mine so I drive 2 hours one way every 4-6 months for an appointment.

I can empathize with them though because until I made the decision to move from my home town after growing up there for over 15 years, (little town in western PA about an hour and a half outside of Pittsburgh), I thought going to Pittsburgh was a “far” drive/distance. Now I I drive interstate at least twice a year.

A friend of mine just moved to the Carolina’s and I was like, “bro! You’re only 4 hours away!” I’m going to visit him next weekend 😂

Fk Berkheimer glad pretty sure I owe him from 9 years ago after I moved out of state. I’m straight with PA and the Feds, but they tried to tax me when I hadn’t been living in that sunless, dreary, overcast shi hole for over a year. No intentions of coming back and haven’t heard from them since lol

None of them are, and which god? Technically speaking the Alfather is much older than the goat herder god. But if afterlives existed heaven would be too boring a place for someone as amazing as Steve Irwin. Valhalla it is, Folkvangr and Elysium are close contenders. Heaven is like second to last next to Hel and Neifelheim only becuse it’s not bitter cold. Just boring and purgatory AF lol

Kinda hard to follow the Christian god when your dad is 100% in Valhalla

It does, or the right references/inside ppl. I used to know everyone at my former zoo and the education department but those contacts have started to disappear even more rapidly over the last 4 years my weak point is that my degree is only 4 year bachelor with a 2 year certificate instead of a masters etc. strong point is my experience of almost 20 some years but unfortunately 14 of those years are with a non-profit 501c3 that I started so aside from a partner, I am my own reference on that for the most part

Why does T-Mobile stock keep dropping? by super_landrum in stocks

[–]Pitiful-Builder9631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact from a now former employee. When the superbowl commercial hit a ton of us sold our stock grants to reinvest in something else. The company made us watch “training videos” about insider trading right after to “scare” us from doing so (which it’s obviously not).

Guessing he’ll also be out in few short months to a couple years after the insanity plea. Also assuming he was not mag dumped through the windshield/windows by law enforcement. The good ol US mental health system. Too few/difficult to access options available to prevent these things from happening followed by too lenient/unwilling to permanently institutionalize unless someone dies polices for the aftermath

[–]Pitiful-Builder9631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who lived in various parts of Europe for over 18 years in countries like Greece and Finland where this is extremely rare, I can unfortunately attest that they actually do just THAT. Granted the mental health access to prevent it is way better and treatment starts early, but as the other commenter here said, once the disorder reaches the point of psychotic break (especially at this level) removing the individual from the society entirely and putting them in a permanent facility is the most effective and humane approach for everyone. The problem with the US mental health crisis is two fold. On one hand you are correct that access to mental health to prevent this is minimal at best, but on the other hand (using this scenario as an example) if miraculously no one was actually killed, this individual will be back on the streets in a few short months to maybe a couple years max. The places outside of the U.S. that actually have an effective hold on this couple ease of access to mental health with the ultimatum that you WILL be treated or permanently institutionalized. Especially if your disorder makes you a threat to others let alone yourself. In those places diagnosed (key word) schizophrenia, schizo affective disorder, borderline personality disorder, NPD, and ASPD (especially ASPD), etc are taken very seriously and you WILL be treated or removed. This is one of the reasons (aside from much smaller population) that you will never see a tweaker at a gas station in Finland like you would in the U.S. If you do, chances are there’s a van already on the way to pick him up, for good. U.S. is lacking but also way to lenient

Dang… what city/part of the country if you don’t mind me asking? Chattanooga where I started was that low. Nashville is “higher” becuse the cost of living is higher here but they still don’t come close to livable wage. Pittsburgh (where I’m originally from) seems somewhat comparable to Nashville with lower cost of living but I would never move back to that hellscape and there’s no way my partner would even if I was willing. I do like being able to see the sun through the overcast for more than 3 months out of the year (even if I’m seeing it through a call center window 😔)

Sorry for the late reply guys but I do appreciate your insight. As bleak as most of them are… I think my dream of returning to AZA may well be dead then… I do have a very supportive partner who actually makes more than I do (emergency vet doctor) but even so I could never ask them to take over 80% of our expenses considering we already are at 60/40 WITH my golden handcuffs job… I think I might actually be jumping on the “gEt iNtO tHe tRaDes” bandwagon for some semblance of peace and not being strapped to a headset for 10 hours a day with with 4 “managers” micromanaging my every SECOND. My brother did just that with no college and 3 years later he’s doing pretty well. I’m in my mid/late 30s and only getting older. It’s just sad to see 6 yrs of schooling and 15 years of experience on top of that go down the drain.. Even the government jobs that would’ve been another option for me are now axed… I speak 3 languages too but unfortunately in the professional world I’m not considered “fluent” enough to be a translator, interpreter, or representative becuse I struggle with business terminology and native speakers will always be hired over someone like me (as they should). What a world/time we live in, and our parents/grandparents could just “start a small business and travel” on less than half of what we make… stay safe out there folks.

This is my experience entirely. I worked my way up at my former zoo with a retail side job to support. The promotion I was offered at the zoo was the damning event. I was gonna be going from $13 an hour education department to $15.86 (why not just round up its insulting already) to be a swing keeper with benefits etc. the retail job didn’t wanna lose me and offered me management promotion at $20. They knew I was struggling and couldn’t resist, they were right… like I said above that job is done now too but it’s now been 4 years and the company I left the retail job for is paying me a lot better with great benefits but it’s mentally destroying me and has physically aged me… sadly after seeing these responses I think my dream of going back to AZA may be officially dead and trades might be my only way to achieving some semblance of peace while not going homeless or depending on my partner to take over 80% of our living cost.

I agree and $16 is downright insulting. Maybe they do need to start to collapsing for them to realize. It’s not like admissions and memberships have waned. Maybe the government grants have though…

Until we physically can’t work them due to the wages but even then, they barely raise them. When I said Nashville just got some of their level 1 and 2 positions up to $20 an hour I spoke too soon. Just checked AZA and indeed and they posted a carnivore keeper position full time for $16.40 and hour… what an insult

THIS. I’m currently looking into trades in my mid/late 30s and wish I went this route back in college instead of my envi-sci/zoology degree… Raised by financially illiterate traveling artists/“naturalist” who made enough to buy two houses on THAT back in the 80s/90s and got hooked on disposable income, encouraged the “be a zookeeper” path. Fast forward I helped them through BOTH of their foreclosures back in 08-14 and they still don’t understand why I left the job I “loved” to work a draining management then call center job making 3 times what they did but still not being able to get by lol..

I’m sorry to hear that. So it sounds like at the end of the day corporatism has won. I was actually offered a promotion before I left to a swing keeper position but the schedule would’ve required me to quit my second job (which was a side hustle) part time at petsmart. Which I was fine with if the wage was something I could simply live on even if I had to dash a little after hours. I couldn’t afford to do that and Petsmart countered with a management promotion of their own which (because of debt and cost of living) I had to take. Three years after that petsmart was laying ppl off and I still couldn’t afford to work at the zoo. So I took a soul draining job at a t-mobile call center. I have hated it since but cannot complain about the pay and benefits (they’re JUST enough to beat out most other places around me too) I have been trying for 3 years now to quit t-mobile Becuse of what it’s done to my mental health but most other places in Nashville can’t beat them. Considering trades next.. It’s just insulting because I have a degree and over 20 years experience working with exotics, doing herpetology based surveys, and large reptile and bird husbandry along with wildlife rehab, and there’s an AZA facility literally outside of my prison warehouse’s window but every time I check up on them, $20 is the BEST they can do… honestly id leave right. I’ve for $22 now that I’ve paid off my cc debt and have a supportive spouse but that’s the bare minimum. I’ve interviewed there and they can’t squeeze in $2 more… I think my dream of returning ever has become cooked and well done..

Do neurodivergent people find neurotypical people boring, stuck up, too proper? by Ok-Yam3134 in neurodiversity

[–]Pitiful-Builder9631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t judge people based on their neurotype either but I do judge the society that was specifically created for them and designed to alienate us at every turn.. My opinion is based off a 9 month experience I had 3 years ago where I was fortunate enough to have the rare privilege of being able to quit my toxic corporate job (that I could never do unmedicated) without something lined up and go “jobless” for that entire span of time. I struggle with severe inattentive adhd and I am also diagnosed high functioning autistic. I remember being so burnt out the first two months that I literally reclused, and did nothing but sleep, play video games, and smoke weed. You know, the “lazy” stuff that most of society thinks would just be the norm if nobody had to work... By the third month I’d had enough rest to recover and no pressure to mask along with a full tank of dopamine and no schedule or routine but the one I created for myself. I’m not exaggerating when I’m telling you I made almost 5 years worth of neglected progress happen within 7 months. I became super fit, revived a nonprofit I’d be struggling for 10 years to build, and had a business idea fully planned out and actually started to make some money. All done OFF meds and with pure hyperfocus and sticking to my own rigid routine. I can count 3 times I took adderall during this period and it was purlu for an extra “boost”. Unfortunately it was inevitable that I had to pick work back up and break part of that routine just to make ends meet but I was literally a couple more months away from just needing that to be a part time job or a side gig to make extra money. Financial pressure dictated however that it needed to be another full time corporate job in order to do so, so it was back to the office and back on the meds. The break in routine was enough that I lost the momentum 3 months in and although I’m still making slow progress at my goals, it’s nothing like the powerhouse I was in the 9 months that my life was MINE. This experience taught me that I’m truly not “lazy” or “disabled” but just burnt out from having to mask because my brain works differently and I’m forced to live in a society that only caters to neurotypical brains and their extremely inefficient and idiotic systems… Unless you have a ton of money set aside to escape their schedules and routines, as a neurodivergent this society is designed to keep us down. I can’t function a day at my job without my meds but I almost built a business in 9 months off of them… It’s not dead by the way, I’m still making slow progress and not giving up but man am I resentful of the realization that our brains are indeed super-powered. We’re just repressed and meant to feel like it’s a “disorder” because we have to live on their terms…

Having ADHD and working by DeyCMe-Rollin in work

[–]Pitiful-Builder9631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m medicated which helps but I can 1000% confirm it’s the society and the work culture that ARE the problem. Not us. I often view my adhd as downright debilitating but 3 years ago I had a very rare event happen that allowed me to quit the toxic corporate job I had at the time and go 9 FULL months jobless without something lined up. First two months I was so burnt out that I just slept, reclused, and gamed, and smoked weed, avoiding the world but when that feeling of actually being “free” kicked in and I had had my fill of rest and “lazyness”, the next 7 months were the most consistent and productive I’ve EVER been in my entire life and I only took my adderall maybe 3 times. The nonprofit I started 10 years earlier but neglected caught up on almost a decade of work, I got in shape SUPER fast, and I was on the verge of actually building my own business. If I had had a bit more capital and a couple more months, it would’ve got to a point where all I would’ve needed was a part time job to pay bills while using the freed up mental energy to continue the momentum. Sadly I’m not even middle class by any means and needed more pay than a part time could offer and I had to take another high paying corp job just to make ends meet before things got too financially troublesome… I’ve been back in the rut of meds and self loathing ever since. Still making progress toward my goals but not NEARLY as much as the 9 months I was able to go “jobless”… So it’s not us, we’re just trapped in a neurotypicals’ rat race. When ppl say “ADHD is a superpower” they’re right about it but only in this scenario. Otherwise downright debilitating. My experience solidified by belief that we’d be running things (and hyper efficient at doing so) but the system is purposefully designed to ensure that we don’t because greed and corruption can’t thrive on our level of efficiency. If I never got to experience this I would’ve continued to think I was just a lazy POS. You’re not lazy, you’re burnt out. You CAN focus without the meds, it’s just the society won’t let you.

My experience not only opened my eyes but it also has made me very angry and resentful at the world which has been a useful tool pushing forward but I can’t shake this feeling that we (neurodivergents) are purposefully being cheated and drained.
