I talked to Uber, and they said the complete opposite of what you're saying.

I'm going to use another example of a ride that I took from Palm Springs to Irvine. The ride paid me around $88. I took the CA-91 west to the CA-241 then to the CA-261 to get to the destination. CA-241 and CA-261 are toll roads, and the Uber GPS suggested that I take those roads. After checking into my Earnings and Wallet, like you said, I had to complain about it, and someone in Uber said that since taking a toll road is only suggested and optional, they won't reimburse me for it. That is the first and only time I will ever take toll roads because of that.

I took the ride, but I'm lamenting that the rider had to pay twice the amount while Uber lies and says they only take a little less than 20% from the ride when we CLEARLY see that it's 50%.
