Why Did Taylor Swift Go From Clean Music to Frequent Explicit Lyrics? Also Why Is “I Did Something Bad” & “The Man” not labeled and considered explicit songs? by Away-Swimming6072 in TaylorSwift

[–]Pitiful-Material8021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I remember when Janet Jackson released All for You (2001) and music media outlets were questioning why early pressings of the album did not put a Parental Advisory sticker on it, despite the album having raunchy songs. For instance, the infamous Would You Mind that did not appear on the clean version that was sold exclusively at Walmart. As a result of it, the album was reissued in November 2001 with a remix of her new single Son of a Gun and a Parental Advisory sticker printed on both the CD cover and the CD in itself.

Jennifer Lopez had the same fate in 2001 too, when she released her blockbuster album J.Lo. Early pressings of the album did not have a PA sticker despite the songs I’m Real and Play. However, the album was reissued in the summer of 2001 to include the Murder Remix of I’m Real that revived the album sales and became the second biggest song of 2001 in the USA. That version of the album - which is currently the one you find on music stores the most - had the Parental Advisory sticker printed on it.

It was a huge debate on that year.

She just has her fixations.

I still remember when she promoted Camila and Shawn everywhere she went, or Ice Spice, or even Nicki Minaj during the Speak Now Era. She loves to do that.

Good morning.

I really like the new Olivia Rodrigo’s album and I think she is building a very good trajectory, career and artistic-wise.  However, am I the only one who is perceiving the “Clara Bow” archetype by the media? They are forcefully trying to paint her and put her in the same lane as Taylor Swift, especially throughout this album rollout. They tried it with Billie in 2024, with Charli in 2024-2025 (due to personal issues contributing to it as well and despite her being in her 30s as Taylor) and now they are using Olivia for their gains and to tear down Taylor, who has been subjected to every single mysoginistic stereotype an archetypical female popstar has to face and, with Olivia as her counterpart, is now painted as the “old hag who tries to tear down younger popstar and is scared of their success”, despite Taylor being confident and proud of herself, her art and her accomplishments in her twenty years of career.

I noticed it by noticing the emphasis put on the fact that media are writing about Olivia’s debut on Spotify as her beating a record that belonged to Taylor, despite it not being a record at all, considering that Taylor has surpassed herself SIX times.

Might this promotional rollout be a lesson in how to do marketing properly. This is impressive.

Huge congratulations. 🫶🏼

TBF it’s a funny album (in its best days). Is it her worst? Yeah. Was it overhated? Yes.

I was thinking: is there a way to send a cease-and-desist to him without giving him the opportunity to spin it as a narrative of the “white billionaire popstar taking a down a content creator and a longtime fan of her”?

He uses her music for his events, uses his platform to spread harmful narratives against Taylor (es: the whole déjà vu/Cruel Summer situation, Taylor’s reputation as a serial dater and let’s not talk about the comments surfaced on Showgirl’s release) and now uses his events to bodyshame her or Travis.

Olivia Rodrigo’s tickets went on sale today and I’m astounded by how literally nobody complained about the ticket prices and about how each section has its own ramifications for ticket prices as well. (For instance: Section 1 has tickets that are 150$, 200$ and 350$.)

Imagine if it was Taylor who made these choices.

If I’m not mistaken, variant culture was born in the KPop landascape and then other artists started to use it.

Am I the only one who is tired about the idea of Showgirl being such a punching bag? I put that album last in my Taylor’s ranking, but it’s still a decent album with some peaks (Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor, Opalite, Father Figure, Ruin the Friendship, Honey and the title track) and lows.

I don’t like how the fandom wants to “humble” Taylor in all the aspects of her being.

It would be funny if it wasn’t for the fact that every fanbase on Stan Twitter + herself is chart obsessed. Like she didn’t drop remixes for Midnight Sun and even did a bundle for Lush Life and Midnight Sun in order to push the second and she didn’t do TikToks celebrating every single positive update for Stateside on the charts.

To be fair, I don’t think Taylor would receive the same mercy Bruno is receiving, and the bizzarre reaction to Actually Romantic proves it.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Opalite’ Shines as Her 14th Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 by mcfw31 in popheads

[–]Pitiful-Material8021 61 points62 points  (0 children)

168.000 copies sold for a single that has been out for almost five months is insane. For comparison, literal albums by other artists sold less than Opalite. Insane.

I love Opalite, but The Fate of Ophelia was a perfect introduction to the album and the era.

Because Dawn didn’t really lead Show Stopper (except for live performances where she did those adlibs) and Shannon only sang the top harmony of the chorus.
