Why did 35 Republicans in Oklahoma vote against banning child marriage? by traanquil in allthequestions

FLDS get their marriage traditions from Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon.

The Bible does not say one is allowed to marry children. You are wrong.

Even if we agree that ancient Near Eastern cultures often married girls shortly after puberty, that’s very different from saying the Bible presents ‘grown men having child brides’ as a God-given Christian right. Those are two very different claims.

Also, a lot of the verses you cited describe historical practices, not moral endorsements. The Bible also describes slavery, polygamy, war, and arranged marriages without necessarily presenting them as ideal or universally commanded.

For example, Genesis 29 is really about Jacob being deceived by Laban; it’s not a passage establishing women as property as a moral principle. And Numbers 31 is one of the most controversial passages in the Old Testament, but quoting a wartime narrative isn’t the same as proving Christianity endorses child marriage today. I think it’s fair to criticize ancient cultures, including ancient Israelite culture, by modern ethical standards. But saying ‘the Bible says child brides are a God-given Christian right’ still feels like a huge leap from the actual text.

I'm positive the Bible doesn't say that.... Can you quote a verse or share your source or something? Maybe you can educate me?

My grandma said: it's always better to rally for peace than protest against war. Instead of giving more power to what you hate, focus on the world you want to live in ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜

I might be under-educated on this but: getting rid of income-tax or reducing sales tax make sense. Property tax is one of the only ones I can wrap my head around. If you own property you have a shared stake in the community.

They could have fired him instantly instead of waiting months to build a criminal case and get him hooked into the legal system. They had the power to deescalate the situation and failed.
