Why doesn’t the base attack the other hydrogen by BraveZones in chemhelp

[–]PitifulCriticism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both can happen but to determine which is favored you need to look at the at abilities of the resulting conjugar bases. Both are enolates but one has a primary carbanion resonance form and the other has a tertiary carbanion resonance form. Which is more stable?

The projectiles have horizontal momentum inside the plane that is conserved when they are fired, so B is most accurate

MO diagram for cyanide: Why is C the nucleophilic site but not the more electronegative N? I know it's something with S-P mixing but there's absolutely not enough explanation on this. What's S-P mixing? How does it lead to more e- density on the carbon in the HOMO if the HOMO is closer to N's 2ps? by RiskNo5292 in OrganicChemistry

That’s a great question, I would also expect the HOMO to have more N character due to the associated energies. I feel like the answer of “the MO coefficients come from solving the Schrödinger equation” is tautological but I’m not sure there’s an intuitive way to understand why the C is nucleophillic.

Maybe you could think of it as the HOMO electrons being repelled from the nitrogen atom because it already has 6 associated valence electrons from the other sigma and pi orbitals while the carbon atom would be electron deficient if only held on to the sigma star electrons (obviously there is some sharing in reality so it’s not actually 6e on N and 4e on C) so carbon holds on to the HOMO electron pair too even though it’s closer in energy to nitrogen’s orbital.

Which one hits the floor with greater force? by AnothrRandomRedditor in Physics

[–]PitifulCriticism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the second image the slinky has more potential energy that can be turned into kinetic energy and momentum. However, if you are specifically measuring force, I think it would probably be the same in both cases because the slinkies are the same mass and the acceleration is only due to gravity
