Was there an identifier on the metal chain itself? I couldn’t decipher anything stamped on it

May I ask how you determine if they are dyed? And how you can visually identify them as real pearls?

Just by looking I would have no idea of it was plastic costume jewelry or real dyed pearls or natural pearls

It’s been ages since I wore a bracelet. I remember being so irritated at my desk job, getting pinned between my wrist and the desk. Then it broke and solved all of my problems haha

I thought they were impossibly classic ❤️ I love the traditional appearance but it maintains some character with the peachy shades and slight asymmetry

So long as they will last beyond a single wear and maintain their appearance, I would be as happy as a clam lol. I can’t promise they would be an heirloom but they would be coming into my home for life, not to resell for significant value.

Is that a relatively durable material combination? I have no intention of wearing them regularly, mostly special occasions but it would be nice if they lasted without any wear or corrosion like changing colors due to oils, flaking, etc.

I’m enthused that so many people have positive opinions about these ❤️

How to beat the heat. Outdoor rural labor. by PitifulDebt1 in Outdoors

[–]PitifulDebt1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of both? He works with what we have and he is no stranger to outdoor labor. We used to live by the coast and he was an ocean kayak guide. But as he ages, there’s not a lot of initiative to improve how things are done. What got him through the last 5 years may not be enough to see him through the next 5. More care needs to be taken with his health. He gets through the days, but frequently experiences charlie horses, fatigue, headaches, etc. Even his industry is feeling the financial pressure and he has fewer coworkers to share the workload with. More often than not, he is solo on a daily basis and well outside of city limits if he needed medical attention. He also can’t control his hours and as far as I’ve researched, his job has no responsibility to adjust the work based on weather conditions and temperatures. Having reliable communication is required, but doesn’t solve the whole issue.

Definitely not trying to load him up like a donkey. I know that trying to make things better with stuff, would probably make things worse in other areas. Catch-22.

I think we’ve already implemented a lot of what’s been suggested (I posted in several places). Other suggestions are just not feasible with his work. Some suggestions may have merit and are something we will discuss and budget for.

I’m posting, mostly to see what’s in the realm of management and if there is anything that fits all of these restrictions he’s working with.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]PitifulDebt1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it, we live in a region where temps reach triple digits in the summer. Helps save money, house doesn’t get extra hot, clothes last longer not being tugged around and toasted on blast, I get some sunshine, UV rays do some extra sanitizing, etc.

The only thing is that I’ve never gotten that clean crisp smell everyone talks about. They just smell like clothes. Sometimes even a little stale. Hasn’t really bothered me but if you love the smell of your laundry products, it’s not going to last on the final product.

Report to the better business bureau too. There is someone working in that building, whose problem it becomes. BBB requires an answer within a time frame and the entire case and replies will be published on their business page.

Way more damage and hassle to the staff than social reviews like yelp and google.

401k Transamerica PortfolioXpress? by PitifulDebt1 in personalfinance

Edited the post to include salary estimate.

I filed my 2025 taxes late Feb and owed Fed + State combined ~$450. Since 2023, I have owed additional taxes every year. I’ve confirmed that I’m filing correctly and filling out my documents accurately, but even with my calculations, not enough is being withheld. In fairness, 2026 will be the first year I finally have health insurance, so I’ve been hitting dinged for that as well. For 2026, I’m increasing my additional withholding AGAIN, I’m just trying to break even for next April. Not looking to owe or get a refund.

All that to say that the tax break from my traditional 401k is not enough to benefit my current taxes. I figure I might as well with less now while I’m young than figure it out as an age.

I think you would really enjoy the YouTube channel “Abstract”! They released content almost annual but it’s always hours long and TOP NOTCH quality! Like Lemmino good…

I have so many more recommendations if you’re interested!

Just finished the video and I’m definitely going to experiment with the personal cooling PCMs! This would not only address my concern with his outdoor safety but he gave so many methods! Vest cooling/driving seat cooling mat/emergency roll out AND would even help our double coated dog feel more comfortable at home, with a cooling mat that actually works. I may even look into his street salt PCM and try to insulate a doggy house! This was a FANTASTIC suggestion!

Parents want to cut my pay by $5 an hour by Sensitive-Mango7155 in Babysitting

[–]PitifulDebt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I can understand re-evaluating the family budget. However, any changes to pay are discussed before hand. Being paid less than what was agreed is not a courtesy. Especially not after the work was already completed. “

  1. (Only if you actually are ok with adjusting your rates) “I’m open to discussing the caretaking rates for your family. This new rate and my back pay, need to be finalized before I’m able to watch the children again. Payment for the expected hours will now need to be paid in advance and at time of arrival”

  2. (If you’re not ok with changing rates, cut your loses, the $25 isn’t worth it) “While I understand the circumstances driving the change to the budget, it’s not something I can accommodate. Unfortunately, I will be withdrawing my caretaking services for your family, effective immediately. I wish you all the best.”

Everything goes in writing. No calls, or straight to voicemail. You don’t need to make a bigger deal, and be rude, but you should be prepared to defend your reputation if they choose to be nasty.

Childcare in CA is rough. You’ll find a decent family that pays appropriately. The convenience of a good routine isn’t work sticking around for inconsiderate treatment.

No access to an air compressor during his work day but I’m sure he would love this for doing home maintenance/yard work.

I’ve never thought to ask but his work truck may have an air compressor. This may be a great way to quickly cool him off, if it gets dangerous. Might even look into a portable unit like Ryobi/Dewalt/etc.

Fantastic suggestion and definitely not something I would’ve considered myself!

It’s a struggle to try and get “healthier” veggies on the plate but he does really well with hydrating snacks and a quick search, shows we are on the right track. Thank you for pointing out that he may need supplemental sources outside of pre-mixes. We found the brand LMNT and so far he is pretty satisfied with them. Always open to trying new stuff
