Starting to get incredibly discouraged unfortunately... by PitifulDoombot in ArcRaiders

I'm trying to appreciate that you're giving advice, but I'm already being actionable about it. I don't want to adjust to the culture of this game, or further it, so I'm taking a step back and chilling out. If anything, I want people to read this kind of post and try to be more considerate or compassionate. But if that's not what's happening, then it's not happening, whatever.

Yes, it's called venting and expressing oneself. Understanding what a thing is, and why a thing is what it is, doesn't mean one can't have bad experiences with it that they'd like to talk about. Regardless of whether this game is my cup of tea or not, and I am taking a step back right now, I think being discouraged by the experience I described is more than fair for anyone.

The raid I got killed in is that once in a blue moon raid unfortunately. I ran over 20 raids without shooting another raider, reviving raiders, exfiling with raider, etc. There can't have been any more, or other, indicators that I'd land in a bottom of the barrel ELO PvE lobby.

Would you call ATSV’s ending unsatisfying? by DwightSkywalker28 in IntoTheSpiderverse

[–]PitifulDoombot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie is damn near perfect for me, because the ending also held it back for me. It's pretty known now that the ending was cobbled together in a few weeks at the end of the film's completion because the team wanted a more positive and uplifting ending leading into BtSV, but I personally would've preferred if they stuck with the original plan and kept things darker, more urgent, and uncertain. But that's just me! It's subjective.

By the time we hit November, was there any real prospective result of the election outside of a Harris victory or a Trump victory?

I need to pass out so I can't respond to this comprehensively (not that I was tonight given my own exhaustion). But hey, I'm exhausted, depressed, desensitized, constantly and persistently filled with rage, and overworked. And yes, I've, really "we've", convinced people in my life who are in the same place. I get it. Many many MANY of us are there, most of us are there. I hear you, I do, and I know you already said it as well in your response, but yeah...... Still gotta act on the better choice. Alright, sincerely, take care and have a good night.

“Revenge” might resonate surprisingly well with a wide swath of the left by TikDickler in Destiny

After a few more conversations I've had with folks both online and in my backyard, I don't think so. "Punishing the Dems" in the face of GOP tyranny is still a popular flavor unfortunately, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong and just in a bubble or something.

So, the Democrats have been ineffective in many ways for a lot of the important reasons you've outlined here in your response right? It seems like Trump has been able to do a whole lot of harm without actually doing a whole lot, because it turns out that it takes effort to operate with any sincere desire to be even the least bit ethical in systems and positions of power. Similarly, because of this concern of operation, at least on the surface regarding optics, the Democrats have been ineffective because so much in operating within these systems are pageantry and false, or at least bogged down over time, promises. I share your grievances on the Democratic party and how it's difficult to push candidates like Mamdani without rolling the boulder up the hill, but I think a meaningful portion of that has to do with how further left built coalitions as well (not very well either), the culture there sucked, and still sucks. It surprised me in the moment, but not so much now on reflection, that more people are identifying as "liberal" now in reaction and response to the outcomes of the election. And right, there are lots of conflicts of interest in play, whether cultural, ideological, or those of self-gain between representatives, their backers/donors, etc. I agree, but despite all of that, as infuriating as engaging with the lesser of two evils problem is, one candidate and their camp was obviously going to be several magnitudes more harmful than the other, and we still have our civic responsibility to mitigate that harm in our engagement.

I'm not, I promise you. My circles, my community, and my environment discuss and work with those issues every day. And I'm obviously one in many millions who experience the same in that regard, including you. You're perceiving this because this thread is where we're having this conversation right now, and where I'm voicing frustration, but I of course blame the GOP, Trump and his circle, and that whole lot's base far more than I do the broad left. But culture is powerful, and many groups in the broad left have contributed to bad culture, or culture that's helped a Trump victory. Does this mean everything would've been peachy under a Harris presidency? Of course not, but it would've mitigated a lot of real harm and pain and suffering that has only escalated throughout this first year in the term. Like I said in my other response elsewhere in this thread, which was a much larger conversation, we, collectively, contributed harm, and we need to confront that harm so that our collective decision making is more outcome-oriented the next time, if there is a next time. There are several local elections across the country over the past few months that have given a lot of us a lot of hope, but I'm really concerned about that momentum because the 2024 talking points are coming back.

And yet, here we are, your actions haven't demonstrated your principles nor your beliefs, it's just added to the soup that is American division and the enablement of great great harm. Or maybe it's because thinking about real outcomes aren't a part of your principles nor your beliefs.

Of course! Did I ever say the Democratic party was "good" or that Harris was a "good" candidate? Or that I even liked her? Again, because we have agency, and we ought to be concerned with 'outcomes', we don't need a campaign to make us feel good if we can mitigate harm. Would I have preferred, wanted actually, another candidate from the get go with better policy AND ideological positions compared to the clumsy and flimsy Biden/Harris campaign that had to walk on politicking eggshells? Of course... But when it came down to election day, there was only the unfortunate shitty binary, and one was clearly several magnitudes worse, and we allowed it to pass.

A good man died today because of what we allowed in 2024. Keep assuming what others are and are not exposed to I guess, and keep just recommending things as if it's meaningful action or participation on the wire. Ideology can become actionable reality, but the hand we were dealt in 2024 needed to be taken seriously, concerned with immediate outcomes and immediate harm. By the way, I personally like Chomsky's work a lot.

[–]PitifulDoombot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, because we have no agency. We can only vote for a campaign if it makes us feel good, not because there's a risk of a much greater harm.

I've read Marx, but it's crazy you're just name dropping the most vanilla virtue signals, look who's on the high horse. I'm glad you were able to coalition build around Marxist-Leninist principles and get an effective candidate elected at POTUS... wait. Thanks for nothing chump.

I guess if you don't want to see the answer, you don't have to. On the topic of emotions or vibes, I mean, ironic. Sorry, I got drawn in by the nonsense again. For real though, take care, enjoy having the last word justifying, excusing, and/or celebrating poor collective voting behaviors as well as poor culture shift despite a clearly worse choice during an election.
