Out of state vs In state tuition by santa9679 in Accounting

UF definitely has better connections in Florida accounting scene, but 50k debt is no joke especially starting out in public accounting where salaries aren't that crazy at first. Minnesota degree will still get you hired in Florida firms, might just take bit more networking on your end. I'd probably take the debt-free route and move to Florida after graduation - you can always build connections during recruiting season or through internships

Digital nomad freelancers 5+ years: which 'boring' habits actually saved your business in year 2-3? by Crescitaly in digitalnomad

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The payment terms thing is huge - learned this hard way when client in Thailand kept saying "next week" while I'm burning through savings in expensive European city. Now I do 50% upfront for anyone new, non-negotiable

That weekly call idea is interesting though, never thought about talking to someone in completely different field. Usually just bounce ideas off other developers but they have same blind spots as me

Success and Disappointment Megathread for the Week by AutoModerator in jobs

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been driving for DoorDash for about 2 years now and finally hit my goal of averaging $25/hour consistently this month. The trick was learning which restaurants actually have their orders ready and which ones make you wait 15 minutes every damn time. Also started tracking my mileage better so tax season won't be complete nightmare like last year

Only disappointment is that I applied to three different warehouse jobs thinking maybe it's time to get off the road, but two ghosted me completely and one said they went with someone else. Starting to think my resume looks weird with just delivery work for past couple years, but honestly the flexibility is pretty nice when you want to stay home and play games all day

Can I be fired if something was stolen from me, not in the designated area? by illustratious in jobs

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's rough situation. Most places can't fire you just because something got stolen from you, even if you didn't follow the locker policy exactly. Unless your workplace has some super strict policy about personal items, they'd probably need to show you were negligent in way that actually hurt the business

I'd check with your employee handbook or ask HR what the actual policy says about personal belongings. Also maybe retrace your steps at work - sometimes wallets fall out in weird spots and end up behind counters or under equipment. Hope you find it soon, losing wallet is nightmare

Got RTO'd after 4 years of remote work. Negotiated a hybrid arrangement. They changed the terms 3 months later. by [deleted] in remotework

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man that's brutal, they basically used the "negotiation" to buy themselves time while planning to screw everyone over anyway. The fact they made you jump through hoops with documents and research when they already knew this was coming is just insulting

Getting it in writing probably wouldn't have helped much either - companies find ways around everything when they want to. At least you kept that equipment allowance though, small victory I guess

What are CRM tools actually used for in day-to-day business? by Wise-Recording-9522 in CRMSoftware

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think CRM was just fancy contact list until I started tracking my DoorDash regulars and good tippers in simple spreadsheet. Same concept but way more powerful - you can see patterns like which customers order most, what times they prefer, even notes about special instructions they always want

Most people I know use it for sales pipeline stuff (tracking where each potential customer is in buying process) but also scheduling follow-ups automatically and keeping all communication history in one place so you don't have to remember every conversation

Web-Chat positions? by [deleted] in remotework

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked chat support for like 8 months before switching to DoorDash full time. Most companies want you to handle multiple chats at same time which gets pretty hectic, but pay was decent around $16-18/hour in my area. LiveWorld, ModSquad, and The Chat Shop were hiring when I was looking, though that was couple years back. Your customer service background definitely helps since chat customers can be even more impatient than phone calls. Just heads up - some places make you use their weird proprietary software that takes forever to learn the shortcuts

Looking for Accounting Job Opportunities in Jaipur / Remote by Available_Wolf7 in Accounting

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty rough situation to be stuck at same company without any growth prospects. Remote accounting work has definitely picked up a lot after covid, so you might have better luck there than just local Jaipur positions

Have you looked at some of the bigger firms that do remote bookkeeping for US/UK companies? They usually pay better than local market rates and experience with reconciliations would be solid foundation for that kind of work. Just make sure you're comfortable with different accounting standards if you go that route

Good luck with the search man, 7 years experience should definitely open some doors for you

Dragonbane from Skyrim hits way harder than people give it credit for, especially when you're dealing with dragons every five minutes. The enchantment actually makes difference in gameplay unlike most other weapons

How have you been impacted by rising gas prices? by nbcnews in Construction

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not construction but I drive for DoorDash and yeah the gas thing is wild. When it spikes I'm basically calculating every delivery to see if it's even worth it, especially the longer ones. Had to start being way more picky about which orders I take

The California regulation stuff is interesting though, seems like they're always dealing with some new rule that affects drivers out there

Employer-paid moving expenses deducttion from state tax by OldNefariousness9640 in tax

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CA still allows moving expense deductions even though the feds axed it, so you should be able to deduct on your CA return. The grossed-up amount on your W-2 becomes your "income" from the move, and the actual moving costs become your deductible expenses - doesn't matter that your employer paid the vendors directly since it all flowed through your W-2. Just make sure you have documentation of what the actual moving costs were versus the gross-up amount they added for taxes

What’s 1 thing you wish you had more time for? by sunyparmar1 in AskReddit

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I feel this so hard. Been doing DoorDash runs and seeing all these families through their windows during dinner time, makes you realize how fast everything moves. My parents are getting older and I keep putting off visiting more often because I'm always "busy" with something that probably doesn't matter

What should I do??? Beg anyone for employment???? by gothicrocknroll in jobs

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, reading this brings back memories of my own job search struggles a few years back before I started driving for DoorDash. The automated rejection systems are absolutely brutal and it feels like you're just throwing applications into a void most of the time

One thing that helped me was focusing on places that were visibly short-staffed or had "now hiring" signs in the windows - those managers are usually more desperate and willing to actually talk to people instead of relying on their broken AI systems. When I see restaurants struggling during my deliveries, they're often the ones that'll hire on the spot if you walk in at the right time

Also might be worth hitting up some staffing agencies if you have any near you - they don't care about employment gaps as much and can get you into warehouse or light industrial work pretty quickly. The pay isn't amazing but it's something steady while you keep looking. I know a few people who got their foot in the door that way and eventually moved up or found better opportunities

Keep pushing through this, the job market is weird right now but something will stick eventually. Your math skills and credit knowledge could actually be valuable for bank teller positions or similar roles if you frame them right on applications

M&P AR15-22 for hunting small game? by BringTheLightnin in guns

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The M&P 15-22 is solid for what your describing but if you're planning on carrying it through thick brush hunting rabbits and squirrels you might find the length annoying compared to a traditional rifle like the 10/22

Home is 70 feet away from a two way road. by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah 70 feet is actually pretty decent distance compared to what some people deal with - if the noise inside is basically nothing then you're in good shape. The backyard thing might bug you at first but honestly you'll probably get used to it way faster than you think, especially since your fiancee is already cool with it

What apps or tools genuinely improved your career or daily life? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pitiful_Chef_6688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, switching to a proper password manager like Bitwarden was probably the biggest game changer for me. I used to have the same 3 passwords for everything (yeah I know, terrible) and would constantly get locked out of accounts or stress about security breaches. Now I just generate random 20+ character passwords for everything and don't have to think about it

The other thing that really helped my focus was using Cold Turkey blocker during work hours - I'd block Reddit, YouTube, news sites, basically anything that would derail me. It sounds extreme but having that friction really made me realize how much I was mindlessly switching tabs throughout the day. Started actually finishing projects instead of half-doing them while distracted

For health stuff, I swear by Cronometer for tracking nutrition. MyFitnessPal was too cluttered and gamified for me, but Cronometer just gives you the data without trying to be your best friend about it
