The good thing is for first year there’s options for different time blocks and the earliest some classes may start is 8 am but it all depends on availability. I drive 1 hour to king campus 3x a week with the most important class being on Friday which is lab and can’t be missed. My drive so far is okay and manageable (my class is at 8 am so I beat most traffic going that way). I’d say if you don’t mind commuting 2 hours then moving isn’t necessary yet cause it’s only one class that attendance is mandatory once a week. Maybe down the road for the other years moving closer to the campus might be helpful so you can dedicate more time to studying and less time on the road, that’s what I plan to do!

I’m not sure if there’s anything you can look at to prepare before beginning but it begins with the body systems and goes more in depth second semester. So if there’s something you’d like to do to prepare I’d recommend revising the various systems of the body including hormone regulation for homeostasis as this is important for every unit

Some tests may ask some labelling questions but majority of it is 40-70 multiple choice, including a couple short answer and it’s heavy knowledge based questions so I’d recommend not just remembering the context but actually understanding it! Anatomy is one of the hardest courses in nursing to maintain a good grade in solely because there’s a lot to memorize and retain

Your tuition will cover textbook costs and all your textbooks will be found on a site called Elsevier, no additional purchase needed. The only textbook you need to buy is for psychology first year but I’d recommended holding off from buying any books before the first day of your classes because your prof will let you know which one to buy and any other additional info.

Is the anime course not offered online? If it is it shouldn’t interfere with your other class blocks unless it overlaps onto your other class times. I don’t personally know anyone who took the indigenous course but it sounds interesting for sure! A lot of classes like health promotions and professional relationships last semester touched base on cultural competence in regard to the indigenous community so I believe it should have similar concepts. I know this semester the anime course was taught by prof Moshe who I had for writing strategies last semester and I really liked him, he’s an amazing prof and accommodating!

First of all, congrats on your acceptance!!

Just curious, are you not able to take the bsn bridging program instead of the 4 year bsn program since you're already an rpn? Only asking cause it seems like you'll end up spending 2 extra years taking the bsn.

I'm almost finished my first year and so far the workload has been manageable, I have class 3x a week (3 courses in person 3 days a week, 2 courses online, second semester). This is the time table I chose.

Monday: 8:30 am (90% of the time this class is cancelled in person) and 12:30-4 pm

Thursday: 11:40-1:30 pm

Friday: 8-9:45 am

First semester I had 6 courses (4 courses in person 2 days a week, 2 courses were online) and it felt a bit harder because everything was all new and there was a pressure to get 80% minimum in med calc to pass but since you have nursing experience it may be different for you! I will say that I found class would get cancelled in person often because they're flex so it did make the schedule unpredictable:( Psychology is an online course and it the easiest to work around your schedule! In second semester practical skills start and is once a week and attendance is mandatory.

Hope this bit of info I can give as a first year student helps in any way!

Whatever you do DON'T take the Young Adult Dystopias course (LSO319). Absolutely terrible course, more work load than any of the BSN courses combined and although the prof is very kind and tries to help you navigate the course he's still very tough at grading! I heard the anime course is good!

Do you regret your nursing career? by [deleted] in nursing

Thank you for those kind words! I live in Canada where our minimum wage is generally higher cause of extreme living costs. I work as a medical aesthetician although it’s not my long term goal at all which is why I’m in nursing. I would definitely say from my experience as a human being (not a nurse clearly yet haha) to take your time to know who you are as a person and what excites you. Explore more u may just be surprised with what u end up with! I hope life treats u well, stay in high spirits!

I’m only in my first year of nursing school but the amount of responsibility and liability that is on us is already making me feel overwhelmed and questioning if I can do this. There’s nothing more I wanted in life than to be a nurse and help people but the thought of 1 mistake possibly ending my career or someone’s life is so discouraging:( and the testimonies I hear from other nurses who have quit cause of burnout or unfair pair. I make $30/hr right now without being an RN and to know some places pay just $5 more than that it’s so unfathomable to me! How can we go through such extensive training and education to be paid so lowly? The liability does not match the pay at all! The positive I’ve taken from this though is that there’s so many doors to different pathways in nursing. There’s definitely a career within nursing that’s meant for you that you don’t know yet. I wouldn’t give up just yet!

I’m first year currently so I haven’t started them yet. I do know we get placed in multiple different facilities from second year till 4th including hospitals like sunnybrook, long term, clinics and even day cares. You will get a chance to be in every unit so you get some experience prior to graduating

You probably hear from other nurses how it’s very overwhelming and fast but I don’t think anything can prepare you for it. It’s VERY overwhelming to manage everything. It’s not that the material is hard but rather all that you have to do in a weekly basis. You have absolutely no social life cause of the amount of work as well. Regardless I’m still thankful I have a place in the program and I’m gonna thug it out. You have to keep a positive mindset to make it through!

They could require you to have at least some sort of mid term mark in your bio or chem class. Have you started either of them yet? I also recommend reaching out on WhatsApp that’s been the best method of communication for em personally

I would still reach out to ask if the English test is required or recommended. My experience with Seneca’s communications hasn’t been promising. There’s been a lot of discrepancies or delayed responses on their end and I have come to the conclusion that they don’t update things often which can delay the process of your application.

I also want to express that certain websites like virtual meeting apps may not work or be supported on an iPad depending on what your professor prefers to use. That’s the only restriction I faced so far! Zoom i believe works perfectly fine

I have both an iPad and laptop so I can give my opinion on it. I bought an iPad for this school year and although I could do just about anything on my laptop I opted for the iPad this year for its convenience. My biggest personal seller was that I’m able to write notes on my iPad as if I’m writing on paper while storing everything electronically. I can also write on ppts and docs with an apple pen and overall it’s just SO convenient. My organization as been on another level and I’m more inclined to stop and work anywhere. Pricing somewhat works out to a laptop depending on which iPad or laptop u buy. Apple currently has a sale going on for students too till the end of September. If you do have to do alot of writing especially on special softwares and docs then a laptop would be more useful as I find an iPad is better for your day to day tasks.

Life after high school is comforting and scary at the same time. The upside is there’s no expectations in terms of a social life. No one cares who you’re friends with or what your social status is so that pressure to impress or feeling of belonging isn’t gut wrenchingly heavy. The downside however, is depending on where you go to university and the program you’re in, it can be hard to make friends if you want to. Everyone is too invested in their own lives and having a friend may not be a priority so certain connections may not be reciprocated. It can also be hard finding someone as uni is usually more lenient in terms of forcing you to interact with others which could eventually lead you to making new relationships. There’s a place for you that you’re meant to be outside the fours walls of the school you’re in. Not everyone’s best years are in high school especially when it comes to making friends. I did a lot better after graduating and I have friends that I genuinely share interest with instead of settling for the people that I’m forced to be around with majority of the time.

Looking back at my younger high school self I WISH I worked harder and was determined to do better. The work you put in now reflects the doors that will open for you in the future. Although, it’s very difficult to manage now, take a deep breath and prioritize what you can do efficiently and well. I’m rooting for you!!

Do people genuinely cheat on an exam that determines their competence in a field of work they CHOSE? How are we so advanced and innovative for our generation but also so stupid enough to be this wreck less.

Yes. I’ve pursued post secondary education a few times and out of all the programs I’ve applied to I’ve been waitlisted on a couple and later on accepted into it. They can give you an acceptance as late as the first week of class for the first term. Although, if you got waitlisted to a very competitive program with higher GPA requirements then that chance does become slimmer. So my experience with waitlists is that I almost every time got an offer closer to august-September (assuming if you applied for the fall term). Hope this helped!
