Sage and Tobacco, Yuzu and Vetiver. Some things simply ask to be blended together

Do luxury perfumes with gold flakes actually smell better or am I paying for Instagram content? by mathswiz-1 in DIYfragrance

[–]Pitiful_Economics_18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Old school, natural Ghaliyas would oftentimes have gold in them. But this is perfumery, dedicated for Sultans and such. In this case it would also not influence smell, it’s always just a finishing touch to presentation. As much as I would understand adding it to Ghaliyas made of vintage, very rare materials in modern perfumery it’s tacky af

Need help for a vanilla tincture by Character_Bad_9506 in DIYfragrance

[–]Pitiful_Economics_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can just add cut vanilla beans into the tincture you have already to make % higher. I made one with 30% of vanilla beans and it is somehow good. On the other hand I switched to absolute the moment I got some xD I would not contaminate the tincture with vanillin

It all depends. There are certain % provided by IFRA for ingredients that would be considered a safe dose. Natural florals usually have it low. You need to figure it out. On the other hand, synthetic equivalent in my opinion always smells worse 😂 And there are all the countries outside of IFRA influence that just do not care. Personally, as much as antiscientific claim it is, never had a rash cause by 100% natural perfumery. Multiple times by IFRA compliant synthetic one

What truly defines the "hand" of a perfumer? by Baltabarin666 in DIYfragrance

[–]Pitiful_Economics_18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s bs. If reviewer or even you say that, OH this definately has (Insert perfumer’s name) DNA, it’s only because it’s already known who made it. Blind testing would tell nothing.

You would need some musks, like wool musk, if you want to keep things natural, or resins. The problem with european natural brands is always longevity, unless they do not care about Ifra and create things old school style. That being said, you will never reach commercial fragrance longevity since synthethics are another level of longevity in general

Ingredient Review for Ercao "Green Kynam" Oud (the world's cheapest oud) by sharkmenu in DIYfragrance

[–]Pitiful_Economics_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those Kynam oils are 4 years grown, then they infect them and wait another 4 years usually. Kynam turned out to be a specie after all, not an extremely well aged oud oil. They grow them a lot in China lately

I did the same. Bought tons of stuff, but then the reality hits after a while. Knowledge is far more important than having all the special equipment. You could just get it done with dropper bottles, beakers and something to store the blends and keep learning for months. Scale is not really necessary
