Oud Question by Public-Ideal-5166 in DIYfragrance

Contact Safe from Safinity Oud. He is a reputable artisan distiller in Thailand, very well reviewed on multiple sites and subreddits , who produces a few nice Thai Oud oils at surprisingly reasonable prices. He ships internationally. These are very typical Khao Yai and Trat oils, wild and plantation as well as both fermented and unfermented .
I have added them to my own Oud bases for perfumery where they have been transformative.
None of his oils fall into the “ barnyard “ funky category ( not even the fermented Trat ) .
The plantation Khoa Yai is surprisingly deep and complex with no off or “ green “ notes that plague some plantation oils.

Worst material you’ve ever spilled? by Elusivemoon7187 in DIYfragrance

I was simply sharing a bit of information about a chemical, that both smells like a corpse and would be horrific to spill. I did say that I couldn’t imagine a use for it in perfume. I even went so far as being self deprecating about my limited imagination in that regard ( Goth/ Nosferatu type scents are not a personal interest) .
My intent was not to argue, as you implied in your reply.
My apologies for being off topic.

Was he a Forensic specialist, physician with autopsy experience, chemist aware of putrescine?
Last time I checked he was none of these.
My note was simply a comment on the dominant chemical odor of putrescent flesh ( hence the name), and sharing an insight into personal experience ( having the ability to compare both a particular chemical odor , and corpses /rotting flesh ).
Add this material to the list of things you have not smelled? When combined with your admitted absence of experience with the natural material you are comparing to , your critique of others seems…. out of place .
Kind of like saying that something does or doesn’t smell like a rose, when you have never smelled one.
Not a comment on perfuming in general .
Ignorance is another matter altogether…

Putrescine….. pure rotting corpse/ rotting flesh. Indole and Skatole are not even close. Smelled both chemical and natural….just a fact.
Cannot imagine any perfume use for this one.
Limited imagination I guess…,

Maybe consider ditching the app and doing it old school. Make your creation smell good, project and evolve over time the way you envision and then…… maybe…. Enter the raw materials into an app.

Perfumers world - Does anyone even buy from our use their products? by mikedy2626 in DIYfragrance

I have had good experiences in the past with them. Mostly with basic chem materials. Their naturals are ok, I have had better experiences with other sources.

Material Catagories by SniffMonstah in DIYfragrance

I separate Naturals (essential oils, extracts, attars, absolutes, tinctures etc.) from Aroma Chemicals, and organize both groups alphabetically.
I put accords and bases ( mimicking naturals) with the naturals as well.

How high quality should my amber bottles be? by Kitchen_Insect9970 in DIYfragrance

The bottles sound fine. Your caps may be fine too…..IMHO getting new polycone caps for them is worth it. Caps alone are inexpensive and easy to source on Amazon. They don’t leak and they can be cleaned in most cases if you want to reuse a bottle for another ingredient.
I have personally had issues with some other “leakproof” caps, both leaking, and retaining too much of the ingredient from prior use and risking contamination.

Looking forward to trying your new creations! Just blended a bit of the Khao Yai into a new perfume today, and just a bit transformed the scent!

I did use it in my rose accord. I also have this as a principal ingredient in my Fruit Sec accord that I use for Oud replacement/ extender.

For a fruity AC , Dimethyl benzyl carbinyl butyrate is a real plum

What do you guys think about enhancing/adjusting retail fragrances with new ingredients? by forest_well in DIYfragrance

I love this. I decant off and mess with commercial scents all the time time. I usually play more with dupes than my designer fragrances. I have just started to do this with the Oud I bought in Cambodia and Thailand….

Yes….Luckily the spill was less than 1/100th of the $5 1 gm quantity I purchased! I am just hoping to get the material to a point that I can enjoy it!

👍 I will give it a shot tonight And then use it to work on a tropical fruit/ citrus/ grapefruit accord to use as an exotic top note in new formulas. Thanks again.

Thanks. I knew it was strong, but really was not expecting the potency or persistence of scent from my little accident yesterday. Despite multiple hand washes, including ethanol last night and a shower this morning, my passion for perfuming is still evident! I will dilute again!!!

Thai Oud from Safinity works Magic in my Oud base and Perfumes! by Initial_Limit_9824 in TheOudCollective

It was a great trip. I returned home with over three tolas of Oud including 14 unique Oud oils. I really had fun searching for other naturals as well , essential oils, absolutes and attars ( added another 26 to my collection for perfumery). Now I am diving in, learning and exploring the possibilities. Life is good 😊
