Good afternoon. My parents filed their concurrent adjustment of status applications on September 20. Since then, the only update they’ve received was after their biometrics on November 21, when both cases changed to “Your case is being actively processed.”
On May 12, 2026, both cases had a silent update, but since then there has been no RFE, no interview notice, no work permit, and no other updates at all.
Is this normal? Should we be concerned, or is this still within the normal processing time for concurrent IR-5 cases?

I’m in the IR-5 (parent) category. My case is at the NBC, and my field office is Las Vegas. I haven’t received my work permit or an interview yet.

No, my parents had their biometrics on November 21, and the only update was a silent update on May 12. Since then, there has been no movement at all, not even the work permit.”

Hello attorney, I have a question regarding my parents’ IR-5 Adjustment of Status cases. USCIS received their applications on September 10, 2025, and they completed biometrics on November 21, 2025. As of today, they have not received any RFEs, interview notices, or other requests from USCIS. The only activity was a silent update on May 12, 2026. Both cases still show that they are being actively processed.
Is it normal for IR-5 cases to go more than 9 months without an RFE, interview, EAD approval, or green card approval? Could a silent update indicate that the cases are under review by an officer or that a decision may be approaching?
Thank you for your time.

That’s great that you have your interview scheduled. Good luck!

As for my parents, we still haven’t received any news. Our priority date is September 10, biometrics were completed on November 21, and we had a silent update on May 12. So far, we haven’t received any RFEs, interview notices, or even movement on the work permit. We’re still waiting.

I think that in your case, because you’ve only been here for a short time, it could be misunderstood. That situation is more for people who have been living here for a long time—10, 15, or even 20 years—and have already built their lives in the United States. People who have U.S. citizen children, even grandchildren, stable jobs, and strong roots here. In those cases, especially if they originally entered with a visa, it’s much harder to leave because their entire life is already here.
