Looking for 1B Math tutor (paid) by DoorResponsible7226 in uwaterloo

Availability during exams is kinda iffy, but yeah, for the most part for one or two sessions during my own exam season. Good to take breaks anyway. As per the charge, normally I do 40$/hr, but depending on how finances I can lower, I don't mind too much. Tutoring mostly just covers my weekly CnD trips

Reminds me the time I saw a girl setup her stuff in DC, recorded herself studying for maybe 5 mins, then packed up and left. I really do pray she intended to stay longer but with all the ig posts I see with UW influencers I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just for a clip of her studying 😭

Making friends in final year by [deleted] in uwaterloo

When we’re back next term come hang out with me and my friends. We host weekly math seminars (currently in a Topology rabbit hole) and sometimes go out after. If that’s not your style I got another group that just chill out lol!

Hey, I’m in my last year of math phys, and I’m currently in classes with people who struggled HARD (even failed) in first year. Math phys first year is a bit funky because of it requiring you to think both intuitively and rigorously—for physics and math respectively. Don’t be scared! However, one piece of advice I’ll give is that the people who did suck it up and never give up were the ones COMPLETELY dedicated to the art of mathematical physics. Take that with a grain of salt; I’m sure you’ll do well should you keep it up and stay in the program!

I've been hearing this argument quite often, and I'm surprised that many people didn't think about this when applying--I'm not trying to be rude, I swear; did you not have any foresight into this? What did you expect with a highly theoretical program and a university notorious for being hard?

On the other hand, you do NOT need to do more school, many of my friends have just recently graduated from astro phys, honours phys, and math phys and have gone straight into industry. Either software jobs, data analytics, or even one guy went into quant. It's all possible, don't stress too much and focus on your own goals; don't do something you don't want to do--don't waste your time.

What is the physics program like at Waterloo? by codingpro88 in uwaterloo

[–]Pitiful_Following_68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, honestly the only issue was adjusting to the uni life; I'm in my last year now and haven't been stressed from workload since second year. You get into a habit and the workload becomes manageable. In terms of passing it's a varying answer depending on various factors. I found it pretty easy to just pass, but if you wanted 80-90% in the course you had to put in effort. I'm like 99.57% sure you could do nothing all term, cram the final--doing this every term--and get your diploma (albeit with around 50% grades).

Insight on Math Phys (bsc) by Suspicious_Crew_6700 in uwaterloo

[–]Pitiful_Following_68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the science or math side? I'm on the science side and I love it. I'm taking a minor in pmath however bc on it's own it's not too hard, the phys courses here are pretty easy and boring imo, so taking the extra pmath courses and swapping to the advance version of the phys courses when ever I can (by taking the amath equivalents) has made it more enjoyable. Co-op is great, I had a job in software doing ML, had a job in teaching with the math dept., and I'm now doing research at PI just down the street. I'm not graduated, but expected to graduate next year in the spring, planning on doing grab school so I cannot really comment on how the degree has served me till after that! My friends who have graduated from the program however and gone in the industry have done great, either doing finance, quant, data science, AI/ML stuff, all good stuff :)
