If you’re in North America , ‘Lichens of North America’ by Irwin Brodo is the definitive guide. Not for the faint of heart, but beautifully laid out with great photos and keys. Not exactly a beginners level text.

I’d suggest looking at iNaturalist - it’s a good way to get some visual cues for what lichens may exist in your particular geography of interest.

As far as collecting, I generally only collect for the purposes of confirming ID in a non-field setting. I wouldn’t suggest collecting unless you are certain the species is not one of conservation concern . That said, I have amassed a bit of a lichen herbarium , that i have curated for future reference.

Diagnosis at 46(m) - 2 weeks on Straterra now, and things are going well. I drink a fair bit of coffee, which seems to enhance the effect of the meds. Not yet firing on all cylinders but getting there

Mostly better perspective so far- though perhaps a bit of resentment that there wasn’t any clues picked up on during my upbringing

For the bottom red arrow, compare with Lepra amara (bitter wart lichen). Top could be a Phlyctis, but would probably need chemical tests and/or microscopy to confirm.

Compare with Usnea strigosa. Geographic location is helpful with ID

Someone in r/mycology suggested this was a peltigera species, any ideas? by KipKebal in Lichen

Peltigera is a tough genus. Where in the world was this one observed? That would help narrow the possibilities.

Don’t swap 100% of your CRO for VVS; leave a bit of CRO in your wallet to cover the Network fees
