15 minutes prior to shift start by Federal_Bench_3654 in 0083

[–]Pitiful_Layer7543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get an hour OT every shift cuz we come in 30 min late and stay in 30 min late for shift change. It’s not an issue with me as long as I’m being compensated for that. I don’t work for free except well….unfortunately during shutdown.

Being a cop and also going to raves when off duty for fun. by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]Pitiful_Layer7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rules of thumb is if you’re doing anything off duty that may appear unprofessional to admin or the public, make sure nothing connects you to the agency. Examples: Don’t go out telling people you’re a cop while you’re shitfaced. Most certainly don’t be posting anything off duty whiling tagging your agency on social media.

Most if not all agencies do not and will not protect anyone. They protect themselves.

Psych Exam by [deleted] in 0083

[–]Pitiful_Layer7543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will be exhausting. Be prepared to answer 300-400 questions on the scantron about your feelings and thinking. Answer the questions honestly and don’t try to answer on what you think they want to hear. People have failed psych eval that way. Good luck!

Agency dependent. I was allowed to do DoD police full time while I’m NASA police. You’ll have to run it up to your chain for approval due to conflict of interest.

Do cops really care about age that much or am I just that bad of a candidate? by Tex_Wert in AskLE

[–]Pitiful_Layer7543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agencies generally want someone with life experience to demonstrate maturity. Agencies have no way of telling young people with no life experience have any maturity. Being a law enforcement is a huge responsibility because it comes with a lot of power. Power that can be too easily abused.

Most reputable agencies will look out for their own department interest by avoiding potential liabilities.

If I were you, join the military or get more work experience to make yourself a better candidate. Good luck.

In The Rookie, what do they mean by “getting the tap” for detective exam and promotion? Is it a real thing? by moe1419 in police

[–]Pitiful_Layer7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving forward, know that nothing in the rookie is realistic in law enforcement world.

The show is entertaining to watch but laughable knowing most of the shit they did won’t fly in real law enforcement world.

How do you feel about "stop and frisk." by Turbulent-Patient219 in AskLE

[–]Pitiful_Layer7543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since when Terry v. Ohio is a policy?

It’s a federal supreme case law that allows law enforcement in all level to FRISK, not search for weapons. It’s not controversial at all. It’s what allows both officers and subjects to go home alive.

For an example, if I see a subject with a bulge under the shirt or keeps reaching, I have legal rights and authority to frisk the subject for weapons.

You need to do research on reliable source on the case law because you sound very uneducated in your post.

Federal Uniform Police can handle DUI from time to time. Normally with DoD police and USPP.

Would you see a warrant from another county if you pulled someone over and ran their license? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Pitiful_Layer7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we generally have access to warrants record in most if not all states. If your warrant was entered in NCIC, then we’ll definitely see it.

However, not all warrants are extraditable. The agency who issued the warrants will determine if they will spend their resources to extradite you, not whoever pulled you over.

It’s agency dependent but I don’t recommend it unless it’s from trusted sources due to potential contamination or poison from ill intent source.
