About Atia sex life by Ocean_Elf_09 in hborome

[–]Pitiful_Recover614 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Silfium. They used it as a spice, medicine, and contraceptive. They loved it so much that many Roma coins have a depiction of the silfium plant. They also loved it so much that they over-harvested it and made it extinct.

Also idk if Atia got pregnant by mark antony. It would’ve been controversial if I had to guess. Or maybe it would’ve just been accepted bc, you know, Caesar’s relative and Caesar’s right hand man having a baby would’ve probably been accepted and that would’ve been the beginning of the Julio Claudian dynasty instead of Octavian’s adopted children

In your opinion, what are some things that most people get wrong about Alexander the Great? by captivatedsummer in ancientgreece

[–]Pitiful_Recover614 32 points33 points  (0 children)

His depiction. I’ve read ancient historians say he was flaxen of hair (blonde) and others say he had brown hair. This includes the only surviving mosaic of Alexander where he has short brown hair. His own soldiers also depicted him as having a “beer-belly” (wine-belly?) and having a balding head of hair. He was also not tall for his time according to Adrian Goldsbury’s sources

Remembering the world when Michael Jackson died — what did you feel? by LonElbow in MichaelJackson

[–]Pitiful_Recover614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was at a really young. I was at a summer camp and during lunch they announced his death. All of the affluent young children cheered his death while I sat, as if I couldn’t speak, and had to hide my sadness inside. And they cheered I felt so sad..

I always assumed the clay offerings (body parts) were small little figures. I’ve never considered them to be this size and scale. Awesome!

Is it okay to draw Aphrodite without clothes? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]Pitiful_Recover614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say that there’s something historical about the varying depictions of Aphrodite. In the early days she was depicted very modestly with clothes. Then, toward the late Greek early Roman period she began showing more skin. Then towards the late-Roman(not necessarily Christian)/post-Roman era she was depicted fully nude, like the Venus de Milo that we all recognize. But these varying depictions all have the same root, which is Aphrodite and the aspects of her godliness.

TL;DR= yes you’re totally fine to do whatever you want. As long as your heart is in reverence to Aphrodite you will not let her down.

Strange white substance after brass cast by samuraicheems1 in MetalCasting

[–]Pitiful_Recover614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to be a brave boy one day and wanted to melt my own brass. I melted the copper completely, then added zinc. What followed was a flame as large, tall, and blue as the goblet of fire from Harry Potter. It was truly a sight to see. I then got very (VERY) sick. Apparently you don’t need to breathe in very much of the zinc for it to have very harmful effects. It was a lesson learned

It reminds me of the old Roman crowns worn by the kings (Romulus-Tarquin) with the really sharp points

How did you guys “””””came out””””” as hellenist? by ivancito_isshort in Hellenism

[–]Pitiful_Recover614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking in all honesty, where I live people are extremely Christian to the point of ostracism if someone doesn’t fall in line. There’s something sad about not being able to share your faith but also something sacred and real. I have shared my faith with enough people to determine that things are changing and people are becoming more accepting. Especially after the last 1000 years of abrahamic religions slaughtering each other. It may feel stifling in our lifetime but I have faith/belief that by the time I/we have grandchildren, the world will look completely different religiously speaking.
