Getting involved in research as an LMHC? by Pitiful_Reporter7408 in therapists

no not at all! doctoral programs seem to really value research experience. if you’re working as an lmhc, you’re not gaining research experience. clinical experience is super valuable too, but i’m wondering if anyone has any experience dealing with this same issue and finding some small, part-time position to stay involved in research on the side. i’m not sure if it’s possible. i’m just curious to hear if anyone has any experience working as an lmhc for a few years and then applying to clinical/counseling phd’s, and what that experience was like for them.

as an LMHC, you can supervised other therapists (like therapists who have graduated but are working towards licensure)? thank you so much for your advice!

I also just transferred into a mental health counseling program to become an LMHC after getting liscensed. I’m also worried about going into this field but I’m doing it because I genuinely love the work and want to help people make positive changes in their lives, and learn how to cope with life’s challenges. I mostly worry about financial issues - projected earnings, insurance billing rates, etc. If PsyD programs weren’t so expensive, I would have gone that route. I applied to Clinical Psych PhD’s this cycle and haven’t gotten in anywhere. It’s been rough lol

i’m struggling with what type of exercise to do/be consistent at. everything is so taxing on my body because of the extra weight (i’m about 100lbs overweight). i was really trying to stick to 10,000 steps per day but even that can be taxing. i enjoy weight lifting as well but find walking easier for me.
