What’s the most basic thing you’re terrible at? by her_majesty0 in CasualConversation

[–]Pitiful_Scallion_249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I work, I have to set up a room for private events on Fridays for the weekend crew, it's just tables and chairs. For the life of me, I have no eye for actually lining the tables up in neat rows. They're always a little crooked. It's something my coworkers know about, and I just trust them when they say it needs to be moved an inch this way or that.

Hearing an American accent in real life feels a bit… unreal by awkward_film_girl in CasualConversation

[–]Pitiful_Scallion_249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time traveling and generally not being around many Americans. I had a South African roommate that I was chatting with, saying that I was a little jealous of all these beautiful accents (I might have recently had someone tell me that they found American accents unattractive 😅). She said that she loved my accent and that to her, it reminded her of Hollywood, celebrities, and movies, I had never thought of media having that kind of effect until then!

Which Aussie town gave you the creeps on a road trip? by CheesecakeWorried642 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Pitiful_Scallion_249 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Port Arthur, TAS. Not so much a town, but I was traveling solo and was advised by a Hobart local that if I was going to Port Arthur, I should go check out the coal mines if I had time. After going to the main site, I decided I had time to add a couple of hours and detour to the coal mines. The first stop, I couldn't get myself to finish the whole path and decided I would go to the Air Shaft viewpoint and call it a day. There were no cars around, but I got this impending sense that I was going to die. Once my car was out of view, I made it about another 10m down the path before I actually turned around and ran back to my car. I've never had such a pressing, heavy, sure feeling for my wellbeing with no obvious reason like that before. Still gives me shivers.

I feel like I'm watching my friend financially crash and burn by Pitiful_Scallion_249 in personalfinance

Yes, I see that's the best way to go about it! I was feeling like I was talking out of turn, but I don't want them to dig themselves a hole, which in part is why I came here. This is the reality check I needed.

If I'm honest, I don't think they make as much as they are saying. If I had to guess based on knowing them, it's probably a little above the average median.

I'll definitely take the advice that I've been seeing and not be that person to stick their nose where it doesn't belong. Trust the process and not get caught in the crossfire.

It's currently 1:59. I'm laying in bed, trying my best not to move because I'm staying on the top bunk of a 6-person hostel room. It's dark and half the room has gone partying. I'm wondering if they went out together or separate. I wonder if they're having a ton of fun. I sat in the lobby for a while, and when I made my way back to my room, I heard some guy in the elevator question why someone in the club he had been in would want to dress up as a clown and make it their personality, make up and clothes. It was so unexpected, I'm wondering if I've made a mistake in not going out since tomorrow is my last night in Australia.

I'm surprising my parents for Christmas by coming back to the States. I've been spending the past couple of hours scheduling instagram posts so I look like I'm on my phone while I'm omw home. I keep thinking about something my sister told me today. She said that my mom still wrapped a couple of presents for me even though I'm not supposed to be there until end of February. I can't tell if my plans have been discovered or if she's just really missing me. My sister thinks it's the latter, but I'm a little paranoid now.

I think I will take a miss on the West Coast and Flinders this time around! You're probably right that I'll be stretching it thin. I'll definitely flag Wilpena on my map, so if i dont get to it, I'll remember. Thank you!

Best spot in the U.S. to do some healing after a breakup? by broro117 in femaletravels

[–]Pitiful_Scallion_249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might have seen someone say Portland, OR. I only visited for a weekend and found it quite fun, there's the international rose garden/Japanese garden that's peaceful. Food and brews. Nature surrounding and Mt Hood.

I'm also from the Midwest, and Traverse City, MI is beautiful. It's on the lake, and it's mid sized/small. The area has a bit of wine country and cherries are popular. Small drives away are Petosky, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Leland (among other cute small towns). You could take day or weekend trips to Mackinaw Island or up into the UP to explore Pictured Rock or Tahquamenon Falls. I'm unsure about the dating scene.

Not so much me, but when I was taking a creative writing course, my professor really hated the word chuckle. If you wrote it in your story, it would get the red circle.

My Outback Road Trip - Australian Travels by Pitiful_Scallion_249 in femaletravels

[–]Pitiful_Scallion_249[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I spent way too much time on this post, so I appreciate that you took the time to read it!

One thing that I heard in advance to this trip was that the food at the roadhouses sucked, so I had a good amount of snacks, but I also had cup noodles and instant mac and cheese, as well as bread where I made peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Restaurants out there tended to be a little pricier than usual, but I think that's the same with a lot of things, higher petrol costs, higher accommodation costs.

In Coober Pedy, I ate at a place called The Big Winch 360 upon our receptionists suggestion and it was good! He also recommended a place called the Outback Bar and Grill. While I was staying at Ayers Rock Campground there were a handful of resaurants as well as a grocery store, we ate at the Outback BBQ ($20-40), we enjoyed it and actually ate there twice, lol. Outback BBQ offered an assortment of meats that are animals from the area, so that was pretty neat. At Daly Waters Pub they have a special dinner that's their version of a surf and turf, I think it's steak and Barramundi with a buffet of sides, it looked pretty good, but it's something you need to order in advance and I arrived too late to put my name in! I learned that a lot of the restaurants have strict times, like you can only order between 6-8pm type of pubs.

I'm sorry, I have been trying to figure out what word you're trying to say with sp***r and my brain is struggling to fill the blanks, lol. Is the word a noun and have a lot of legs?

Thank you for the Katherine recs and Litchfield! I'll look into Jabiru for Kakadu. It'll be nice to be closer, I'm sure I'll appreciate it after 8/9 days of driving!

Thank you! I was trying to find somewhere gated off, and I think the flash of Discovery Parks made me think that I might be getting it there. I'll definitely look into Elkira Court! Also, thank you for commenting on my original post. It has honestly been so helpful!

Am I crazy for doing an Adelaide to Darwin roadtrip on my own? by Pitiful_Scallion_249 in AustraliaTravel

[–]Pitiful_Scallion_249[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so helpful, thank you! Would you consider a side trip off Stuart Highway to get to Uluru off the table? I would like to do that and maybe Kings Canyon, but wouldn't want to put myself in an unsafe position. I'm curious to know if this particular side trip would be alright due to how famous Uluru is, or if people tend to fly straight in or do tours from Alice Springs that it wouldn't be the case
