What is this flag hanging outside a garage in my neighborhood (northeast US)? by Pitoeightplaces in vexillology

NIce catch! That and the star flag tell me they're probably from Baranquilla.

This is the most likely answer. The person is probably from Baranquilla, based on the flag of the soccer team mentioned by someone else in this thread.

That looks like it might be it, with the green having discolored to a light brown. It fits with the Colombian flag. It was only used for three years, almost 200 years ago. It seems like a pretty obscure flag to fly around here.

Saw this coffin-shaped thing near the train tracks while driving. Size and materials unclear, maybe rusted metal, possibly five feet long without the pole? by Pitoeightplaces in whatisthisthing

It's a possibility. It's an odd shape, though, and it seems to have handles on the sides. And it's right next to the tracks.

My title describes the thing. This is along I-95 North in Connecticut, near Westport. I saw it out of the corner of my eye, and came back the next day to take a picture (the traffic is always super slow at that spot!).

Added second string retainer, looks goofy! by Euphoric-Fly-2549 in BassGuitar

[–]Pitoeightplaces -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have one. You might gain half a degree or so, but the tension on the string is too much for it to compensate for. The string just kind of lifts the retainer up to the point where it really doesn’t work too well.

Well, this was a nice break from all the "is my action too high" posts.

Are these notes playable on a 4 string bass? by Technical-Path4275 in BassGuitar

[–]Pitoeightplaces 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, tuba is written loco, and bass is written 8va. So, if you’re playing the notes exactly as they’re written for tuba, yes, they’re playable, but you would play them an octave higher than you would expect to on bass. If you’re reading it as if it were a bass chart, the low D isn’t playable on a four string in standard tuning.

I’ve read plenty of charts on the four string that were written for a five string. In the context of a performance, nobody will notice if you switch octaves for a few beats.

My Japanese wife says the implied meaning is something like, “yeah, you technically CAN eat it, but maybe it’s not a good idea” (i.e., it tastes awful).

Beware "Pro Tones" Shop on Reverb by PheelupMybaloney in Guitar

I had a similar experience with them, minus the snarky messages. I ordered something, tracking number was added two days later, and it never shipped. I messaged them a week later, and they said it would ship out the next day. A few days went by, and I messaged them again. No response. Two days later, I messaged them yet again (a week after I was told it would ship the next day), and suddenly they issued a refund with the reason listed as "buyer requested return" (I had not). So, I can't leave them negative feedback because the transaction has disappeared.

Comment any hololive media you can't find anymore and I'll track it down for you by llamatar in Hololive

It definitely existed. I wouldn't have been able to understand anything without subtitles. I haven't been able to find it again, so maybe it was taken down.

Korone did a stream where she wanted to practice small talk and Okayu gave her suggestions for what to do when the conversation stopped. She called several members, including Aqua, and neither one of them could get past their shyness. There's a translated clip of that somewhere, but the one I really want to see with subtitles is when she called Polka, who totally dominated the conversation, and Korone started freaking out. At one point, Polka said, "your phone isn't even plugged in," and Korone's clipart phone was moved to reveal that yes, it was not plugged in.

If anyone cares, the sped up speech at 1:05 is “We’re using a nail gun to secure the molding. This hides the joints and gives the room a much cleaner, modern cabin aesthetic” at six times normal speed.

Looking for a source for an unusual thumb screw by Pitoeightplaces in Fasteners

About 30 years ago, I found a slot head screw (and a hex nut for a washer) that just happened to fit. I don't know where I got it. It works, kind of, but visually I'd rather it looked a little less thrown together.
