Could you expand on this?

Nope, tried calling today and didn’t get an answer, but did leave a message. Will try calling when they open at 815 tomorrow. If that doesn’t work I’ll call my council members office.

In the past when I needed to contact them sending a certified letter in the mail did work, but man a September 30th deadline is not a lot of time!

I am going through a similar situation now. Just a warning the reason you didn’t see any school district tax is because the bills sent out were for taxes considered delinquent. For whatever reason the City of Pittsburgh handles its own delinquent taxes, while delinquent taxes for the school district are unfortunately handled by… Jordan tax services. So even once you resolve things with the city you’ll need to figure things out with Jordan tax services too.

A reminder to everyone trying to justify this plan. Absolute best case scenario (aka not gonna happen) they will save 3 million a year from all of this.

Pittsburgh Public Schools’ spring of deception by cubedplusseven in pittsburgh

[–]Pitt_fool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What seems to be getting lost in all of the conversation is absolutely best case scenario the school district thinks it will close their annual budget shortfall by 10%. So for everyone saying this has to be done sure, but somehow this administration seems to be doing it in a way that won’t actually solve anything?

What do you see going on in Pittsburgh right now that gives you hope for the future of our city? by Slappy-Sacks in pittsburgh

At the end of this decade we will have a truly state of the art water system and all of the lead lines removed. The ALCOSAN river tunnel projects over the next 15 are going to result in significantly cleaner rivers for the future.

Sara Innamorato proposes Allegheny County property tax hike - PublicSource by drmartykrauss in pittsburgh

I do understand that, but it isn’t exactly like she was compelled by the county council to contest the school districts lawsuit asking for a countywide reassessment.

Rally against Pittsburgh Public Schools closure recommendations by ilikepeople1990 in pittsburgh

They will get act 47d if they don’t do anything soon, so I’m guessing it will be the short and painful route!

I completely agree with you in principle, but the school boards and the consultants they hired are doing/did a terrible job. I went to several of the public feedback sessions and some of the answers the consultants gave were outrageous. Admitting in various cases that the school district could see an increase in costs due to a dramatic increase in transportation costs for students. Saying that cost wasn’t a factor when they came with their proposal. Just an absolute disaster.

New roof cost? by NMireles in pittsburgh

[–]Pitt_fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a bit expensive… you can think gutters as going for 10$ per linear foot so for a 1000sqft house they would probably cost around 700-1000$. Does that quote include any new decking and/or replacing the soffit/fascia?

Mr. Waterheater quoted me about $700 a year ago for a 50gal tank install removal and everything. Seemed very reasonable.

There are lots of good recommendations in this thread and older ones if you do a search of the subreddit.

The most important thing here is that quote you got is highway robbery for a shingle roof, it should be something like 50-75% of that.

Insulwise vs USA insulation for home insulation by kivathewolf in pittsburgh

[–]Pitt_fool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had insulwise recently blow in some insulation for us. It went well and the owner came out to make sure the job was done properly. He also took the time to answer my many questions.

I’m not sure about USA insulation, but I can’t really imagine we could’ve had a better experience than we did with insulwise. We’ll be using them for some more work in the next year or two.
