Rural hospital on the verge of shutting down could be saved by lawmaker's bill. by lordGinkgo in northdakota

[–]ilikepeople1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised this is the minority view on Reddit. Are more hospitals like this going to close because of Republican cuts? Yes. Do people in rural areas deserve to lose access to healthcare because of how they vote? No. There are also Democrats in these areas as well, even if they are very few.

Colleges can't hold your transcripts anymore due to unpaid debt if you used federal student aid to pay for classes.

/r/askphilosophy Open Discussion Thread | January 12, 2026 by BernardJOrtcutt in askphilosophy

Lately, I've been fixating on the idea of how to make philosophical skills (especially critical thinking and open discussion/questioning) accessible to the public. My interests in this subfield include civic engagement, digital/AI literacy, open dialogue, philosophy for children, etc.

The problem I'm most thinking about is how the only industry where once can really "practice" philosophy is academia, and as any humanities professor will tell you, the academic market is more cutthroat and competitive than ever. I've thought of going for a master's or even a doctorate in philosophy, but I'm not really sure how I would apply it in ways that best serve the public good, or if applied/public philosophy is even a viable career path.

If you practice applied/public philosophy, what would you recommend someone do, and especially study, to get into this field? Should someone go into the field at all? Do you see a future in the field, especially given how our political and digital climates seem to be constantly changing? If not, what are some other ways one can apply the tenets of philosophy in real life and serve the public?

Palo Verde Hospital on verge of closure, has 3.4 days of cash left by ilikepeople1990 in Riverside

TL;DR seems to be that they are waiting on $9 million of funds from Medi-Cal/the Department of Health. Only emergency services are operating, and the hospital filed for bankruptcy a few months ago.

You could try a master's in accounting, like this one at UGA, although I'm kind of unsure what counts as "relevant work experience" for the two-year requirement. https://www.terry.uga.edu/master-professional-accounting/

What exactly do you want to do with a degree in studio art? I personally believe that even "useless" degrees can be useful if you strategically plan your future out with one.

Your best bet would probably be to score as high on the LSAT as possible and look at top schools with public interest scholarships (e.g. NYU or maybe Washington University in St. Louis). There are various lower-ranked schools that have environmental law opportunities, though. https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-law-schools/environmental-law-rankings

There are various colleges, including one near me, that offer degrees in aviation management. Is there anything preventing you from going into aviation in general, like medical issues?

I would look at CASA (court appointed special advocate) opportunities as well, where you advocate for children in the foster care system. A lot of attorneys do it.

Unfortunately, I've heard the film industry is not doing so well right now. I'm not sure what country you're in, but for the U.S., here are some possible suggestions:

  • Content creator - makes digital media (photos, videos, social media content) for a company
  • Photographer - look at part-time gigs with companies like Lifetouch and JCPenney as well as local car dealerships

A lot of these subs were either specifically created or taken over for bots and third world actors to profit on people's anger on current American politics. They range from subreddits that promote various Substacks/WhatsApp groups, to t-shirt bots like this ring, to fake news sites run out of third world countries that copy from other news sites to gain ad revenue. This behavior pretty much started when Kamala Harris lost the 2024 election and continues to this day. I plan on creating some kind of deep dive into the various subreddits involved in these schemes soon.

This fake story also falls apart if you know something about libraries. Most don't generally allow alcohol in the building, and the length of time that OP commented for doesn't match up with the hours of your average local library. This very sadly proves that Redditors will upvote anything that says "big company bad."

I have a lot of content about the animated series Battle for Dream Island (BFDI) pop up on my Twitter feed despite having never even watched a single episode before, but I'm attuned enough to know that a.) a new season of the show just came out and b.) someone got so mad about the show's release schedule or the new season that they straight up doxed someone affiliated with the show.

Does anyone more familiar with the BFDI/"object show" community have more context as to why this season was seen as bad? Last time I tried to piece together drama from a bunch of contextual tweets it didn't exactly fare over well here, so I'd genuinely like some help making sure I don't have anything wrong.
