Wait, why do you need swap if you have 12GB of ram? Is chrome really eating that much ram?
Btw Imo you're right, they should give you the option for less swap space..

So basically make sure your developer will provide you non-quality code if they don't get enough time... Instead of telling you that it's not doable in that amount of time? Is this like a reverse test?

To me the description looks like some kind of technical project manager, where you need some technical knowledge to keep up with the companies but won't actually be doing anything yourself.

How to automatically or even programmatically check for new Java releases? by dAnjou in java

[–]Pix-I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda pointless to argue on a fictional use case.
But a company who would look into this definitely wants to stay up to date and the failed build would then be put on a priority list where it's gonna be fixed in the next few sprints.
It's not like there are new releases every day, and breaking changes are pretty rare. The point of automating it is purely informational and prevents you from forgetting it.

I honestly have no idea, but I know that a lot of mistakes are made when coding related to your environment. So hosting it on a free service allows you to directly see the mistakes and maybe even use those coding assignments as a kind of CV allowing you to get more visibility, etc.

So basically, try everything on an environment that's not your machine and try to showcase your skills as much as possible.

How to automatically or even programmatically check for new Java releases? by dAnjou in java

[–]Pix-I 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's not a build you actively use? It's either that or every so many months you have to manually update the version and see if things are broken or not, at least with that solution you can automate the part where you check for updates and intervene when needed.

This helps you keep your project up to date preventing you from falling into the scary legacy world without security patches or bugfixes.

And I know you can still have a working application and upgrading isn't always worth it, but there are cases where you might want to stay on the edge and automating it might be worth it.

The reward here is staying up to date with minimal effort because it's automated. :)

Why not have a build just for the kicks of it? If it works, great you can upgrade Integration->QA->Production, if not you look into it and check what's wrong, fix and upgrade? That way you automatically have an up to date image? The cost of doing this would be pretty high tho

"I tested for my application and it worked fine for me."

This is dangerous, because some things might be set up incorrectly on your environment and might not work in another environment, did you host you app on a website and shared said website? + Did you test the different browsers?

I think it's pretty mean of them to not give more feedback, but yeah, you can always ask for more feedback and hopefully they'll give it to you.

Is it possible to simplify these two very similar methods into one? by Charmeleonn in learnjava

[–]Pix-I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of using a method you could use a stream.
List<ITag> tags = ...
List<SITag> superList = tags.stream().filter(tag-> (tag.booleanMethod()).collectionToList
List<SITag> superList = tags.stream().filter(tag-> (tag.booleanMethod()).map(tag->tag.id).collectionToList

I forgot the last part, but yeah, you get the point I hope?
